Hashimoto's and Pregnancy
Hi to all. I have some questions to ask about pregnancy with thyroid problems. I had a child in 2000 with no problems besides preccamsia. After him, within a 2 year period, I had a few miscarraiges. Docs did not ask questions or answer to me why this may have happened. Finally I was pregnant with my daughter and I was told to take prometrium. I took it and she was born in April 2006 healthy, but with a heart defect. She is fine now... I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's when I was 36 weeks pregnant with her. I feel that this may be why I was having the miscarraiges.
So, My TSH was sky high >150 by October because I wasn't taking my meds right. Finally, now I am at 3. It has taken all this time. I have had anxiety and other symptoms as well that have been hard, but are under control now. I want to get pregnant again but I am really worried. I am concerned about the baby and also, if I will be able to maintain the pregnancy. Wondering if I may have to be on prometrium again. Also, I am worried about my body. Should I have another baby or should I not? Does anyone have any advice? I am 30 and I don't want to wait to much longer... Jenn |

hi.. i too have been dx with hashimotos and my antibodies were high. like 265 or something. my levels went from 4.79 to 1.78 in 6 weeks and dr like to see it under 2 when ttc... i think that getting preg when your levels are stable is a great idea.... you just have to be closely monitored

I have Hashimoto's and have been TTC for one year. My OB says Hashimoto's is not harmful in pregnancy as long as your blood levels are monitored and controlled. But I'm scared to death, too. I can't imagine miscarrying after TTC for over a year. Bottom line - go for it and make sure you get your TSH, T4, T3 checked often! By the way, anxiety is caused by Hashimoto's.

I also have an underactive thyroid. I got pregnant in June of '07 on a first attempt without realizing I even had it. I was diagnosed on the same day I found out I was pregnant. My OB monitored me me throughout the pregnancy and everything turned out fine, so I think as long as you are monitored and medicated during pregnancy and you want a baby--it's well worth it to try! Good luck!
