TRYING FOR BABY

Anxious To Try Again But Still Bleeding

THIS MAY BE A PERSONAL QUESTION FOR SOMETHING THAT I NEED TO KNOW. HOW LONG DO MOST PEOPLE BLEED AFTER SUFFERING A MISCARRIAGE? I LOST OUR LAST BABY AT ALMOST 20 WEEKS ON FEB. 18. I DELIVERED HIM NORMALLY AFTER HAVING LABOR INDUCED. I'M READY TO TRY AGAIN BUT I'M STILL BLEEDING. IT'S BEEN OVER FOUR WEEKS AND I THOUGHT BY NOW IT WOULD HAVE STOPPED. IS THIS NORMAL AND HAS THE SAME HAPPENED TO SOME OF YOU? ANY INFO WILL BE HELPFUL.

Four weeks is a little long.

With my last M/c, I bled two weeks I think, and then aunt flow followed right behind, for a total of three weeks.

Have you asked your Dr about your bleeding?

Normally, a Doctor will recommend that you wait six weeks after a delivery (or miscarriage) to engage in sexual activity...so to be safe, I wouldn’t even start to try until six weeks has passed.

But I would call the Dr. and ask about your bleeding...four weeks just seems a little excessive.

THANKS FOR REPLYING SO FAST. I NEVER HAVE PERIODS ON MY OWN WITHOUT TAKING PROVERA FIRST. MY DOCTOR AND I DECIDED I WOULD START THE PROVERA ON MARCH 12 HOWEVER I WAS STILL BLEEDING FROM DELIVERING ON FEB. 18. SHE SAID THE PROVERA WOULD MAKE THE BLEEDING STOP. IT DIDN'T. IT GOT BETTER BUT NEVER COMPLETELY STOPPED. I SPOKE TO THE NURSE THIS PAST MONDAY AND THEY DECIDED I SHOULD TAKE 40 MG. OF PROVERA INSTEAD OF 20 AND THEY THOUGHT I'D STOP WITHIN A DAY OR 2. IT DIDN'T HAPPEN. THERE'S NOT ALOT OF BLOOD BUT INSTEAD OF BEING A BROWNISH COLOR LIKE BEFORE IT'S VERY RED. (SORRY FOR HAVING TO BE SO DESCRIPTIVE.) NOW THEY WANT ME TO TAKE MEGACE. I'M JUST WONDERING IF THIS NOW IS MAYBE MY PERIOD SINCE I'VE BEEN ON PROVERA BUT WHATEVER IT IS THEY SAY IT NEEDS TO STOP BEFORE I START TREATMENT AGAIN TO BECOME PREGNANT. I JUST FEEL LIKE I MIGHT BE LOSING A MONTH WHEN MAYBE I'M ACTUALLY HAVING A CYCLE NOW. KNOWING I NEED TO TRY AGAIN IS THE ONLY THING THAT'S GOT ME THRU THIS LAST MONTH AFTER LOSING OUR SON. NOW IT JUST SEEMS LIKE THERE'S ANOTHER ROAD BLOCK.

i wasn't that far along but i lost mine at 8 weeks on jan 11th and i bled up to march 3rd. every other day i called the doctor to ask if it was normal and of course the response was yes. i changed doctors and i asked her if it was normal that i was still bleeding and her response was the same. i was told long after that if i had a d&c i wouldn't have bled but for a few days if that. sorry icouldn't give advice and i am very sorry for your loss. i was told the bleeding was natural for the cleansing prosess and to accept it. 3 days after i stopped i started my period so i am truely sick of blood right now, sorry to be so gross

I have miscarried three times...never at more that 12 weeks. My heart is breaking for you. I only bled about 2 weeks with each one....I am not sure what is "normal". Wish I could be more help.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I would respond anyway because someone else may have the same question.

I bled for 3 weeks after my miscarriage and D&C. My period didn't start back up again until 2 months later. My doctor told me that this was all normal.

I thought I'd answer, simply because I feel like I identify here. I've asked around many women who had normal labors and took their babies home, and they all say 4-6 weeks. I just stopped bleeding yesterday and today is 5 weeks post delivery (of course, my Dr put me on bcp to regulate my cycles so I could try to conceive again as quickly as possible, so that 5 weeks includes my 1st cycle post delivery as well.)

I don't have a definitive answer for you, but just wanted to put my .02 in.

I lost our baby on February 12th and had a D & C that same day. I didn't bleed at all, but about five days later, I started having severe left side pain and heavy bleeding. I went to the ER exactly one week after my first D & C and an ultrasound showed to be "abnormal" so I had to have a second D & C. I bled non-stop until March 25th!!! It was always different. At first, it was dark brown, then bright red, then just pink on TP after using the restroom, then maroon, then dark red, then brown, then.....well, you get the idea...it was always bleeding of some sort, never the same, but every single day from February 19th to March 25th. It stopped on March 25th, however, last night I felt "moisture" and went to check and I passed something like out of a horror movie. It was about the size of a silver dollar (yes, the old kind) and it was very weird in that it was like a piece of steak, not mucus or a clot, it grossed me out, but I haven't a clue what it was...it was brown.

Well, I guess my point is, I'm thinking that everyone is different. This was my first pregnancy, I was just shy of 11 weeks and had two D & C's in a week, I did not deliver the baby or miscarry him. The bleeding lasted for five weeks, but seemed like 5 months!

Like LaRisha, I was calling and asking if it was normal, and I was told that as long as I didn't bleed through a pad an hour or have bad pain, it was very normal (???)

I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers and I hope that everything turns out to be OK for you!

I bled for that long after I had a m/c in the past. They did a D and C to stop the bleeding. You should definitely talk to your Dr. about what they think you should do. Especially if the provera isn't doing the job.

I miscarried naturally but had to have a D&C two months later when the bleeding wouldn't stop.

I just posted here that you need to call your doctor TODAY..then I read the entire thread. I'm hoping that you got help (a D&C?) and have your BFP by now. So sorry you went thru it!
