Red face trying again after loss of twins at 22 weeks

Hi, I'm new to this site. I was in search of support and found women with similiar experiences on this site!

In March of this year I lost my twin boys at 22 weeks. My husband and I have never experienced such heartache and pain in our lives.

On top of it all my body had a lot of difficulty after my babies births: I bled nonstop for months until I finally took some action. I began going for acupuncture and taking Chinese herbs. It seemed to do the trick! It is also helping to regulate my cycles (I have very long, irregular cycles - suspected PCOS).

My husband has been ready to try again but I've been too scared. Then a friend (younger than me, of course) tells me she's pregnant (on her first try, of course). I was happy for her but it also felt like a punch in the gut. It made me realize I had to move on.

So here I am in the two week wait. I don't think I'm pregnant this cycle because I don't "feel" like I am - I could feel I was pregnant very early on with the twins. Part of me is so disappointed and the other part of me is relieved. Its all so complicated.

You have come to the right place for support. There are so many wonderful ladies (and men) that are on here...they are all amazing!! It is so nice to have this forum and read everyone's story whether it is good or bad....we are kind of like a little family here.

On another note, I am sorry you had to go through the loss of your twins. I wish you all the luck in your journey.

This might be too hard of a question to answer and if it is and you don't reply I totally understand...I'm just wondering if you know what happened to make you lose the twins at 22 weeks?

This is an amazing place for support. I wish you well in your journey.

Sorry to also ask, but I had the same question. I am 17 weeks w/ my twins and I have not been able to shop or talk to them in fear that someting bad will happen and take then from me.

The doctors are not definitely sure why I lost my twins. They tend to think its a case of incompetent cervix since I met the definition of "painless dialation of the cervix in the second trimester". With that said, my cervix looked great at my 18 week diagnostic ultrasound. I also had a HSG to rule out a misshapen uterus as the cause of the loss and my cervix looked fine (not too short) as did all my other female hardware.

The other possible cause is the twin complication of preterm birth. I get the distinct impression that's what my OB thinks is the cause. I've learned that doctors don't really now what causes the cervix to dialate even in a pregnancy that has gone to term, so its tough to say why it happens prematurely. Possibly due to the higher levels of hormones with twins.

So the short answer is either incompetent cervix or preterm birth. I will be followed very closely next time and the hi-risk drs. would like me to have a cervical cerclage as a precaution.

Hopeless, I know its easier said than done, but please don't worry. What happened to me was unusual and unfortunately couldn't be helped. Everything was going beautifully with my pregnancy until the day before I delivered. We never saw it coming. Just take care of yourself and pray for the best outcome. I'm sure you will be fine. I became friends with a woman who was also pregnant with twins and had almost the same due date as me. She went on to have two healthy babies. Try to enjoy your twin pregnancy

hms3-I am so sorry about the loss of your twins. I am getting ready, well in another month, to start again after my ectopic. I have had 2 m/c's previously and after both my first thought was, well I can get pregnant, now lets try again! This one has been harder, especially with the loss of my tube. But we go on, try again, and hopefully soon we will all be successful.

Don't worry about being symptomless in your 2ww. Everyone is different. Every pregnancy is different. I'll keep everything crossed that this cycle works for you!!!

Welcome to the group! You have gone through so much pain and loss and you deserve the kind and helpful words of the wonderful people on this site. I'm glad you found us and I don't blame you for being scared. I'm currently in my 2ww as well and am absolutely terrified since it's my first treatment cycle since losing my baby in April. I don't have any real symptoms either, but I'm not sure what that means yet. We will make it through this together!! Good luck!!

I'm so sorry for your loss. There is no greater pain than the loss of a child, more less two. All I can tell you, is keep faith. I have a close friend who also lost twins at 20+ weeks. She has successfully delivered three beautiful children with the aid of cervical cerclage. It won't give you back your babies, but I truly wish it may give you hope.

God bless,
Anne Marie

Anne Marie, thanks for your message...it does give me hope. Truthfully, I'm not sure about the cervical cerclage. If something looked wrong anatomically or if I had been pregnant with only one baby, then I'd feel like I really need it. Since that isn't the case, I'm not sure I need it and then worry about the risks of having it done. On the other hand I would be so terrified my whole pregnancy if I didn't have it done. It makes me more confident to have a cerclage after hearing someone else who lost twins went on to have successful cerclage experiences. thanks!

Amy, thanks for your kind words and keep me posted on your 2ww.

I am 10dpo and decided to take a hpt today. Of course it was negative. Maybe its still too early or maybe we missed it this cycle...we will see in a couple more days. Today is my wedding anniversary and I was hoping to give my husband a postive hpt as a present! Oh, well.

i can so relate..

hi, i'm new here and reading your post was like reading what i would write! the same EXACT thing happened to me! the only exception was i was at 20 weeks and the were boy and girl. i'm sorry for your loss, i know your pain. i can see that you posted here awhile ago. if you ever need someone to talk to, i'm here. i have no idea how i found the stregnth to move on but somehow i did (time has helped, I guess). My husband and i are trying again. this time with clomid, a trigger shot and timed sex. the first "so called successful" pregnancy was with injectables and an iui. i 'm terrified to travel down that road again, i hope i don't have to. Anyone else that can relate i'd love to talk...
