Infertility has not been proven hereditary, but there are some cases where you can find members but not close of the same family having the same problem.
Indeed, it is the case for me and my cousin, there is no direct realtion but then we are both following a treatment for fertility with clomid whch we order generally from CLOMID (CLOMIPHENE) (GONAPHENE) for about 3 month now. We just recently heard that another cousin living in france is suffering from the same condition. Maybe that is not hereditary but the it might be possible that the problem comes from the blood line as we all 3 come from the same grand-mother. Hope there may be some search in that domain. Deanna,
nerdy glasses on ![]() PCOS is the leading cause of infertility in women. If you have PCOS, there is a 50% chance your mother, sister and/or daughter have PCOS, and therefore may have infertility problems as well. I think it probably depends on your cause of infertility, and if it's a health related problem, such as PCOS, then yes, it's hereditery. This makes me think of a visit we had with an "infertility specialist." DH and I mentioned that there was no history of infertility in either of our families. His response was "Obviously, otherwise you wouldn't be here today!" We did not see him again. Hope this sheds a little light. Love, Julie

There are so many casues of infertility that it's not possible to say it's hereditary in such general terms. However, specific causes such as PCOS and, most obviously, genetic cause are most certainly more likely to be passed on from one generation to the next.
There's an interesting survey about infertility where you can see the results after participating at OpinionDB. |
