Endometrial Function Test

There was a post on here not too long ago where someone asked if the uterine lining could not be receptive to implantation or something along those lines.

I had responded that my RE was doing a test on me (the EFT) to see if I had the right markers to accept an embryo.

I just got the tests back and they came back abnormal... I'm very glad I got the test done.

I am having surgery tomorrow to remove some uterine scarring and I have to do a mock cycle to try different slower acting progesterone vs. the PIO that is supposed to help this problem. I will keep you updated. I'm just glad I did this test so that now I know that my future IVF cycles would have failed if not treated.

Newly invented Endometrial Function Test (EFT®) solves the puzzle of unexplained infertility

I'm glad that your doctor found this. Did he say what the scarring is from? What was the test like? I'm worried that there is something like this wrong with me, since I've never have anything implant.

Anyway, good luck with your surgery. I hope everything goes well.

Hey Jen, im sorry but glad that you were able to figure out what could be the problem. Can i ask you how they did the testing? How much did it cost - does insurance cover any of it? Im going into my RE's office this afternoon and wanted to discuss this testing with him.....thank you in advance ; )

Hi Jen - Well that is great that they found something that they can hopefully FIX so that you can get your BFP. I also read the other thread where someone talked about this EFT procedure. I am also going to bring it up with my doc, but I have always had a thick uterine lining, so I'm not sure if that rules out any problems like you had?

Hi Jen,

I did the same test with Dr. Lavy in Stamford CT. I was also about 3 days behind where I should have been. Because of that he upped my dosage of progesterone to 2 suppositories a day, and 2 200mg pills twice a day. That seemed to do the trick. I got pregnant from the IVF and the FET. Unfortunately I had MC with both. So I am gearing up for IVF#3. This time he suggests doing PGD testing. Hopefully that will be the trick. I know what a wonderful feeling it is to finally have an "answer". I found it so funny to be excited for an abnormal test result. But finally we had something to focus on and treat! Good luck to you!

The test cost me $459 and insurance did not cover it. I had the regular biopsy done at my clinic and they just take a pipelle and suck out a piece of your lining to sample. Then they sent it to Yale who performs the EFT test.

The EFT test can be done to see if your uterine lining is reception to implantation, it doesn't have anything to do with having a thin lining but they wanted to check it out too. So even if you have a thick lining I would think it might be helpful. Something to consider anyway.

I actually had the surgery yesterday and we have no idea where the scarring is from. I've never had surgery or been pregnant before. It's a mystery. They also found polpys and removed those. The scarring was pretty bad so now I have a balloon in my uterus that has to stay for 10 days.

I have a quick question about what you said with the slow-acting progesterone v. the PIO...do you mean that the PIO could actually help contribute to implantation problems in this circumstance? I am asking b/c my first ivf cycle was a miserable response and my embryos looked bad, but my second one was successful, though ectopic/m/c. During that cycle they started me on PIO after my positive beta. Well, since that time, each cycle, they've required me to take the PIO, I've had beautiful response, with great looking embryos but no implantation at all...so I was actually considering the idea that the PIO might be causing an issue (b/c it was the only weird variable, though I thought this might be crazy of me to think)....

Anyway, thank you so much for the information. I am going to address it with my RE!

Happy 4th everyone!!!

I have to ask my RE more about this but my understanding is some people who are out of phase which would result in an abnormal EFT need slower acting progesterone that builds up so they need the vag suppositories not the pio.

So I guess in those people the pio isn't effective. I'm not 100 percent sure but thats the way I understood it.

My clinic does a Saline Infused Ultrasound (University of Alabama Birmingham) as standard practice to test for endometrial function before they move you to IVF. I guess this is probably the same thing??

I think that's a little different. I think that is more like a diagnostic hysteroscopy where they check the uterus for abnormalities. This is where they actually take a sample of your uterus and test it for the right markers for implantation.

Well I had surgery to correct the adhesions and polyps that were found. And I will be doing a different kind of progesterone to hopefully get my EFT normal.
