Slow rising beta: HELP

Ladies,
I really need some feedback. First, here's my BETAs:

July 22 -28
July 24- 120
July 29- 297
July 30 -463

I had an u/s yesterday July 30 and the Re didn't see anything. In one breath I am being told it's early and my BETA might be too low. In another breath I am being told he' hoping the sac implanted in the uterus and it's not ectopic.
OF course I am freaking out. I have NO symptoms at all.
Any words? Thanks in advance ladies.

I think it is ok!!!!

According to the info got on internet beta has to duplicate every 2 days (duplicate or increase 60% referring to the previous beta) after the first beta test. So if your first beta 15 days after trasnfer) 463 it is a good number and it in the average increase. so oatient and wait for the next beta and eco-U/s.
Good luck

hCG Levels : American Pregnancy Association

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG):
The Pregnancy Hormone

Email
Print
http://www.americanpregnancy.org/ima.../KS13803-b.jpg
The hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (better known as hCG) is produced during pregnancy. It is made by cells that form the placenta, which nourishes the egg after it has been fertilized and becomes attached to the uterine wall. Levels can first be detected by a blood test about 11 days after conception and about 12 - 14 days after conception by a urine test. In general the hCG levels will double every 72 hours. The level will reach its peak in the first 8 - 11 weeks of pregnancy and then will decline and level off for the remainder of the pregnancy.
Key things to remember about hCG levels:
 • In a bout 85% of normal pregnancies, the hCG level will double every 48 - 72 hours. As you get further along in pregnancy and the hCG level gets higher, the time it takes to double can increase to about every 96 hours.
Caution must be used in making too much of hCG numbers. A normal pregnancy may have low hCG levels and result in a perfectly healthy baby. The results from an ultrasound after 5 - 6 weeks gestation are much more accurate than using hCG numbers.
An hCG level of less than 5mIU/ml is considered negative for pregnancy, and anything above 25mIU/ml is considered positive for pregnancy.
The hCG hormone is measured in milli-international units per milliliter (mIU/ml).
A transvaginal ultrasound should be able to show at least a gestational sac once the hCG levels have reached between 1,000 - 2,000mIU/ml. Because levels can differentiate so much and conception dating can be wrong, a diagnosis should not be made by ultrasound findings until the hCG level has reached at least 2,000.
A single hCG reading is not enough information for most diagnoses. When there is a question regarding the health of the pregnancy, multiple testings of hCG done a couple of days apart give a more accurate assessment of the situation.
The hCG levels should not be used to date a pregnancy since these numbers can vary so widely.
 • There are two common types of hCG tests. A qualitative hCG test detects if hCG is present in the blood. A quantitative hCG test (or beta hCG) measures the amount of hCG actually present in the blood.
Guideline to hCG levels during pregnancy:

hCG levels in weeks from LMP (gestational age)* :
 • 3 weeks LMP: 5 - 50 mIU/ml
 • 4 weeks LMP: 5 - 426 mIU/ml
 • 5 weeks LMP: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml
 • 6 weeks LMP: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml
 • 7 - 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 - 229,000 mIU/ml
 • 9 - 12 weeks LMP: 25,700 - 288,000 mIU/ml
 • 13 - 16 weeks LMP: 13,300 - 254,000 mIU/ml
 • 17 - 24 weeks LMP: 4,060 - 165,400 mIU/ml
 • 25 - 40 weeks LMP: 3,640 - 117,000 mIU/ml
 • Non-pregnant females: <5.0 mIU/ml
 • Postmenopausal females: <9.5 mIU/ml

Good luck

Your last increase looks promising. I know how frustrating and nerve racking it is. All you can do is wait until the HCG is high enough that something will be seen on U/S. You are way to early for an U/S to see anything so that wouldn't bother me at all. I think if the rate of rise starts to slow then you get concerned and you don't have that. Absolute numbers have little meaning despite how much meaning we try to put on them. You have to realize that the vast majority of women not doing IVF, take an HPT when they miss their period (and thats usually weeks after AF was expected). THen they accept that they are pregnant and don't even see an OB for another week or 2 so most are at least 7 weeks along. Which means.....the data on all these healthy pregnancies doesn't exist for us to compare to at the freakishly early stages that we are getting betas. I imagine tons of those women started with low absolute numbers but by the time they got to an OB things kicked in and no one ever knew. We are under a microscope because of IVF and it totally sucks, but since there is nothing to do but wait, I'd be happy that your rates don't seem to be dipping.

I really hope it takes off soon for you so you can relax. Lyn

it seems that your beta's are rising properly. my RE would not do an u/s until my beta was above 2000, and at that point, he would do it 2 wks later, not any sooner. i was 6w5d before they would do an u/s.

First, did you mean your 4th beta on July 30? or today, July 31st? If your beta was on the 29th, then the 30th, your numbers are great and there is absolutely nothing to worry about. And your Dr. shouldn't be doing betas every 24 hours. They should be done 48-72 hours apart.
As for the u/s, you can't see a sac unless the beta is above 1200. My beta was over 2000 when I had my first u/s and all we saw was a sac and just barely made out the yolk. So, even if you did double today your beta should be about 600, and there is no way you could see anything.

when do you go back for your next check?

Thanks! I go back today @10 for blood/sono. My RE is driving me crazy. I have no symptoms of ectopic: no bleeding, cramping, pain, etc. I am extremely nauseous but that's because I am pregnant.I'll keep you posted. Yes, my last beta was a little more than 24 hours apart.
