questions about assisted hatching
My RE is doing assisted hatching on our embryos prior to transfer this Wednesday. I have read that it carries some risks for harming the embryos, but I can't find any specifics. Does anyone know the specific risks, other than identical twins?

There is a risk that the embryo can get damaged during the process. I had assisted hatching done one my last 2 cycles. It worked for me. Try not to worry about it. Good Luck

There is a chance AH could harm the developing embryo. It's a small chance and alot depends on the skill of your embryologist. I will have AH this cycle. It's my first time but I'm thinking it could definitely help my chances. Good luck to you!

AH was done with both of my embryo's. The embryologist said the risk of damage is minimal.
We decided to do it because of the increase chance of implantation. It worked!

I believe AH should only be done on day 3 embryos which are transferred on day 3. It is damaging to day 5 embryos (according to our RE).

I had a failed cycle without AH, and then on my 2nd cycle they did AH on my 5 day blasts, and I am 29 weeks pregnant. I believe the risks are very minimal compared to the success stories. Good Luck!

3/8/08 IVF#1 Beta # 1 - 28 Beta # 2 - 2.5 IVF#2 5/10 Stim 5/19 ER- 13 retrieved, 7 mature, 5 fertilized, 3 embies 5/22 ET - transfered all 3 embies, 1-8 cell, 2-6 cells. 5/30 HPT 6/2 Beta #1-133 6/9 Beta # 2 - 2641 6/16 Beta # 3 - 15,785 6/23 U/S - 1 perfect little bean HR 150-170 bpm, and measuring 7wks 1 day! 7/02 - 1st OB appt. Good HR and measuring 8wks 3 days. 7/23 - Measuring right on target, and HR is looking great. 8/20 - Got to hear heartbeat!! 9/11 - anatomy scan, determine gender!!! IT'S A BOY!!! 10/3 - Great heartbeat 10/30 -OB app't and cardiologist for rapid HR 12/8 - bedrest for preterm labor 1/25/09 DS born 7lbs 9oz, 20 1/2 in.

Hey - I am getting AH for the first time with my 3rd IVF - transfer is Thursday. My doctor said there are no risks. I'm sure there are some, but they're minimal enough that he told me there are none. So I thought this might make you feel better! Good luck!

As I dont know anything about AH but since this is my 5th time and my age is 38 I want them to do AH with this ET .

Aug 10, 2008 started taking BCP's Sept 2 , 2008 going in b/w & u/s ,starting Lupron Sept 4, 2008 going in b/w , may start taking stims Sept 12, 2008 Egg Retrieval Sept 17 Egg Transfer Sept 26, 2008 Beta HCG 85Oct 3, 2008 HCG 2328 U/S on 10/13 We got 3 Baby A heartbeat was 105 and Baby B was 125, Baby C ? U/S on 10/20 ER U/S 10/29 Baby A 158, Baby B 163, and Baby C 179 Baby C due to SR.......you will always be loved and missed..........mommy & daddyBaby A is a Boy Baby B is Girl Give Birth April 23, 2009 @ 33 .6 wks Baby A my son Isaiah David born @ 6:05 p.m 4lbs 12oz 17 inches Baby B my daughter Patricia Ann born @ 6:06 p.m 5lbs 7oz 18.5 inches.
