I've recently learned that different protocols can give you embryos of different quality. After 5 IVFs with one RE I just went to a new one and was informed that I was on a protocol for poor responders that typically produces more eggs but with less quality (and I am not by any means a poor responder). Actually, my protocols were so weird that this new RE is considering this IVF #1 for me! So, don't give up - you are young and you have a great chance of being pregnant. The one thing I did regret over the last year is not getting a second opinion sooner (but it felt like too long of a wait in between cycles then...wish I had been more patient).

Good Luck. Hang in there...you are young. Do at least one more IVF with a new RE and then save up for adoption - you have tons of years for that!

Wow, maybe that's what's happening with me. Concentrating on getting too many eggs as opposed to good quality. If you don't mind, what protocol did they switch you too that helps with quality???

Good luck!

From my understanding, it has been shown to increase egg quantity and quality. Check out this practice's information:
Older Women Pregnancy and Premature Ovarian Failure
An RE that I just consulted with wants me to take it for 2-3 months, 75 mg/day. I am on the fence about it, my acup. says it's not good for my type of deficiency, so confused!!

Well as much as I like my body work specialists, they aren't RE's, so if your RE recommends it as something that could work, that should trump the accupuncturist. But I agree, it's scary trying something that is pretty new. None of this is good for our bodies. I wish it could be easier.

Lisa - my old RE had me doing flare protocols - which are usually used for women with DOR to get more eggs. You start lupron on the day you start stims -no suppression - so that your body does a quick jump up in LH and starts producing eggs. However, I don't have DOR (yet) so my RE had me on really really low meds (when a flare usually requires high dose meds). What I have since learned is that some of the best clinics in the U.S. refuse to use this protocol at all b/c it compromises quality and may cause your endometrium to be out of synch for implantation (sher institute website explains this). There are lots of different protocols and one that works for one person, won't work for another. Also lab quality is an issue and even your RE's skill in setting the ER at exactly the right time (not too mature, not under mature). I think you should talk with a few RE's and discuss what they would do differently. Never listen to just one RE - there is a lot of information out there! Good Luck!

I 2nd that motion about Flare Protocols (SIRM explains it all on the website)-they say that it can compromise quality to get quantity, which in poor responders, quality is usally an issue too so that doesn't solve the problem. More isn't better. This new RE I saw said that if I had gone to see him a year ago, yes, he would have put me on the Flare, but now it is being replaced by the Estrogen Priming Protocol that I posted about a few times. My current RE wants to use the Flare so I am nervous about that and want to try this new protocol with DHEA. Multiple opinions are invaluable! Can't wait for my phone consult with SIRM.

I believe in the holistic medicine Fertile XX. I think it had a lot to do w/ preparing me for the IVF. I hope that you get good news from the other REs.
