Question hysteroscopy for uterine septum

Hi everyone

I will be starting my first round of IVF in October after a hysteroscopy ( this coming month) to remove a very small uterine septum. I had a laparoscopy in August (see sig.) but due to a small puncture in my uterus from surgery, they could not remove the septum that day. Anyway...I was wondering if anyone may have had this procedure and how the recovery was. I will be having a balloon catheter for a week, and I am also concerned how that is going to feel.

It's definitely been a help to read all of the posts on this forum to get better educated, since I've now graduated from the IUI to IVF board!

Thanks is advance!!

4/08 hysteroscopy...all clear
5/08 1st IUI w/clomid and ovidrel - BFN
6/08 2nd IUI w/clomid and ovidrel - BFN
7/08 3rd IUI w/ Menopur and ovidrel - BFN
8/08 LAP. found (and removed) destroyed left tube, mild endo, left ovary stuck to pelvis by scar tissue
9/08 hysteroscopy to remove uterine septum
10/08 IVF consult. (and another in-office hysteroscopy to see how uterus has healed)......10/20 had hysteroscopy and all healed perfectly! Mock transfer that day as well.

Hi there. I had a operative hysteroscopy on 8/11. I didn't have the exact same procedure you'll have - no balloon catheter for me. However, I had a slight septum and they had to cut at my uterus. It was such an easy procedure for me. I didn't feel a thing, was completely alert the whole time. I had some spotting for 2 days after, but it went really smooth.

I wish you luck and I'm sure it will go great!

Hi Colleen,

I had the exact same procedure done for a small septum. Recovery was pretty quick, just crampy day of and until they removed the balloon. I actually had two hysteroscopies, 1 for a septum and 1 for polyps. I had a balloon catheter left in both times. The removal for the first one was slightly painful for like 10 seconds while it was being removed. The second removal was no big deal at all. Didn't even feel it. Having the balloon in wasn't really a big deal but I was crampy off/on.

Good luck & hope this info helps you

Thanks so much for the info! Glad to hear that it is not that bad. (I had hoped it wouldn't be as tough of a recovery as the LAP I had done.) I got a little freaked about the balloon cathether when my RE mentioned I would have one and that "if it starts to slide out...you'll just push it back up." If cramping is the worst of it, that doesn't sound too bad. (I've been having plenty of those anyway from an ovarian cyst that has been hanging around.)

I haven't heard of them sliding out. My RE said that there is no way that it could come out. I would not worry about it
