I am back ladies! ICSI question.

Last time we were scheduled to do ivf, but the day of, they had concerns with DH's "guys" and stated they felt our chances increased with ICSI. We did it and for a brief moment in time were BFP. Did not stick... Can someone shed some light on ICSI for me as we are supposed to do it again in a few weeks. Pros and cons etc.

Thanks and love to all!

your story sounds like mine. that being said, i still think i'd do icsi again b/c in our case, we had 11 eggs and they icsi'd 6 and did 5 conventional. all 6 icsi'd ones fertilized and only 3 of the conventional fertilized. but, at the beginning, the icsi'd ones were growing super super good and they thought some of the conventional ones weren't gonna make it. but, by day 5, my very best blast (4AA) was one of the conventionals and my second best blast (4AB) was an icsi'd one. our dr said there's a very very small chance of something being genetically wrong w/ the embie if they do icsi, but he said it wasn't enough to worry about. i've been looking into everything i could possibly do to ramp up this next cycle b/c if it doesn't work, we're gonna have to quit for a while and save some money. i've looked at that estrogen priming and i also posted a question about sHLA-G testing. those are some things you might want to look in to. good luck!

ICSI helps your fertilization rate. We did ICSI with Assisted Hatching this last cycle and finally got our BFP.

Same here, we used ICSI with AH as well and now have our 1 year old baby girl.... I would do it again in a Heartbeat! Good luck on your decision.

If your RE thinks you should do ICSI again, I would do it. You will increase your chances for more eggs fertilizing. My DH has motility issues with his guys (we had a good laugh with our RE that while DH has plenty of guys, but they are lazy). Our RE told us that she wouldn't do the cycle without ICSI. We also had our DS using ICSI. So I would recommend it.

Hello, we only retrieved 7 eggs at ET. I was so sad when only ONE egg fertilized naturally. They did emergency ICSI (after 24 hours) on the remaining 6 eggs. They were able to get 4 more eggs fertilized but thought that only one of them looked good enough to transfer. Well, it stuck. I will never know if the ICSI embie is the singleton or the one that spilit into identicals, but whatever the case, it stuck.

I will caution you that you may want to consider testing (CVS, etc.) on embies produced by ICSI. I say that b/c research and my RE seem to believe that if the egg does not fertilize naturally there may be some genetic reasoning behind that. Now, with that being said, thousands of IVF'ers have produced healthy ICSI babies, but it's just one more piece of the puzzle so that you may be informed.

I'm on my first ICSI, and will have to go through an US/BW appt tomorrow, but I left a message with the IVF Nurse and she just called me back ~ said they do the US to make sure the lining converted..it's a standard procedure and cannot effect embryo - transvaginal - if I am still nervous I can forgoe it but they strongly recommend doing it to be sure the right meds are being taken. So I guess it will be off to continue my relationship with the ol' US machine!!

Oh GOD I hope nothing happens........it's been over a year to get this far!

Good luck girls!!!!

I can't list any cons... ICSI/IVF was our only option! ER = 4 eggs. All 4 fertilized via ICSI. 2 embies made it to ET. Both implanted. One stuck. I am now 25wks pg w/ a baby boy! Never give up hope!
