Did Assisted Hatching Work For You??

I'm considering doing assisted hatching on my embryos during my next IVF cycle. My RE said it was probably a good idea since my previous 5dt of 2 blasts resulted in a BFN. However he said there is some literature floating around out there saying that AH is conter-productive in women under the age of 34, although no concrete studies agree. So I'm looking for both the good and bad stories...Did AH work for you??

We used AH/ICSI on all of our IVF attempts. I was 32 the first time (BFN), 33 the second time (BFN), 34 the third time (BFP!), 36 for the FET (m/c), and 37 for our 4th fresh cycle (BFP!). Also, DH and I always did 3dt because of his diagnosis.

Wishing you lots of luck!

I am 32 and did AH on my 5th and 6th IVF cycle. I really believe that is why I was finally successful.
Good Luck!

We were TTC for six year and had four IVF cycles. We had Assisted Hatching done on our fourth and last cycle and got our BFP! I'm now 11 weeks. I say do it, do it, do it! ha ha. It worked for us and we had been given a 30% of having a pregnancy with my eggs.

I asked my RE about assisted hatching and this is the reply they sent me.

AHA isn't needed with ICSI. WIth ICSI, the egg is stripped and a hole is made for the injection of the sperm accomplishing the same thing as AHA!

I trust my RE but did anyone else know that with ICSI assisted hatching is already done?

I did read on the internet that ICSI acts as Assisted Hatching. But I read that after my consult w/ my RE, so the next time I talk to the office I'm going to ask.

I heard that too, but since we were down to three embryos post transfer I felt the $300 extra for AH was probably worth it. We wound up with just two embryos to transfer, so I'm glad we did the AH. We will never know if that made the difference between success and failure, but I'm pregnant with a singleton now, so I'm glad I spent the extra money.

I did icsi with all 6 of my cycles but AH with the last 2. They must do something different because I was required to take doxycycline those 2 times. It also worked both times!

Christy, how soon did you start the doxycycline? My office has not been too helpful in assisting me to have AH part of this cycle. I am not done pushing this subject but I am afraid it will be to late to have this done since I start stims thursday.

Alex, I think you still have plenty of time. My RE told me the final decision regarding AH wouldn't be made until after ER and once they were able to see the embryos.

AH with ICSI was the key to our success! So, if you have the means and your practice offers it I say you should definitely give it a try. Good Luck!

Hopefully my last question on assisted hatching.

My RE is having us speak with our clinic but they haven't called back so I haven't gotten to ask how much assisted hatching costs. We are very excited our clinic does it and our RE is now on board if we want to do it.
From the research I have done it looks like anywhere from $250 to $500. We are out of pocket so it is a consideration for us.

If I may ask, how much was it in your area of the US?

Thank you guys for all your support in this. We really want to do AH and will borrow as much money as we need to to make that happen.

Alex
