First time IVF (and first time poster)!

I have been coming to this website for a while, but this is my first time posting. I have been through 3 IUI cycles and just had my ER yesterday for my first IVF cycle. I am feeling discouraged b/c they only got 6 eggs from 9 follicles and of those, only 3 fertilized. 2 abnormally fertilized (not sure what that means) and one did nothing. Seems like that is low compared to other postings.

Our diagnosis at this point is unexplained. I am 33 and DH is 36. I am sitting on pins and needles waiting for tomorrow's report.

Anyone else had a similar scenario? Does IVF usually work on the first round or does it take a couple of tries? This process is no fun, especially when my friends all seem to get pregnant at the drop of a hat!

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! I completely understand the frustration. I think a lot of people end up with unexplained or multiple diagnoses. The good thing to know is that most people who do IVF end up getting pregnant sooner or later. If you have 100 people who do it, about 87 get pregnant statistically in 3 cycles or less (assuming a 50% success rate for those under 35, some clinics have an even higher rate.)

I'm a low producer as well- I got 12 eggs the first time and only 7 the second. The first time only 3 made it to day 5, and the second time we transferred all 3 on day 3. I had one BFP and one BFN. Its really a miracle and a mystery why some cycles take and others don't.

I really hope you get your BFP!! Keep in mind that since you are young your chances are still good. If it does not work out, you have to take charge- change your protocol of treatment, switch clinics. It will be your turn!!!

I understand your frustration as well. I have one ovary and was a slow responder. I was on stims for 3 weeks and bleed in the middle of it all. They found 7 follicles, out of which 6 were mature enough for fertilization, and only 3 made it. We used ICSI, and 3 days after our retrival we tranfered 3 5 cell embabies. We were lucky to have one that made it. Good luck.
