Kendra- My RE says you can see the HB by US as early as late in the fifth week, but that sometimes it is hard to see until early in week 7. I think the 9th or 10th week is when you can hear it by doppler.

Kendra, I advise not going until after your at least 6.5 days or more for the HB apt. if you had a late implanter you could end up going to the apt. and not see a HB, and then you are just scared for the next apt. NOT WORTH THE FEAR AT ALL! I'm sure all will be great, but I'm such the worry wart after all I've been through on my end.
My RE says around the 6th week or so you should see the HB, I've seen LOTS of girls on here not see HB's at week 5 and then end up with lots of stress and worry!
Some things are just worth the wait!

Hello Ladies!

I just ran across this thread today and am so happy I did! This seems like such a nice group and I would love to be along for the ride during this exciting and scary time. Is there room for another science geek?

I got my on Tuesday (CD34) and boy was I surprised! I'm sure you are probably wondering why/how I waited that long- haha! But, I typically have VERY long cycles (at times I've only had 2 per year) and my last cycle on Clomid was 36 days. That and I kept feeling like She was going to show up at any moment- not realizing at the time that "the imminent AF" is a primary symptom of being knocked up! I think it was the welling up with tears at the slightest sweet/sad/sappy thing (I mean, there's nothing SAD about the e*trade babies) or the fact that I felt the sudden urge to stab DF's hand with a fork as he was reaching over to polish off the last of my dinner one night that finally caused the 'Aha' moment--> perhaps I should invest in another (or 6) HPTs!

So there I was on Tuesday morning- with my dollar store HPT and FMU- one, two, three, four drops and................................ nada.

I think to myself "wow, I was afraid of that" [sigh, sniffle]...

But wait [looks at it again a minute later after brushing teeth and solving the weighted algorithm in my head to determine precisely how much chocolate will be required to ease this latest disappointment]... is that?.... could it be a faint line showing up??... NOOOOOOoooooooo, my imagination, surely.... or one of those darn evaporation lines I keep hearing about... hmmm....

[walks away, starts googling at a furious pace] learn enough information to realize that, well, I know nothing more at this point and I am probably more confused... [walks back into the bathroom]

Is that... is it possible... that line got darker??? Ok, still more faint than the other line, but hey, the test was A DOLLAR! And come to think of it, your (.)(.) have been REALLY sore, you've been really tired, that ex-lax chocolate you saw the other day seemed, for the first time in your life, like a good idea for something other than a practical joke...

So, I convince myself to call my RE's office and they, much to my surprise and delight, did not tell me I was delusional and had me come in the very next morning for blood work and I got the results that afternoon- yay! (they have a lab in the office):

Bhcg: 508
Prog: 53.84

It was so nice to hear the nurse gently say, "congratulations, you did it". Woo hoo!!!! I'll go in tomorrow for Beta#2. Since my cycles are so wacky and we have no idea when I O'd (hard for us PCOS girls to monitor with OPK's and even harder for the RE to monitor by ultrasound when you have to be many states away in order to - DF is in pilot training), I'll likely go in midweek next week for the first ultrasound. I'll know for sure after the beta2 results come in.

So, basically I have been dying to speak with someone, anyone about this! As mentioned, DF is in training and is stationed far away (which added yet another hurdle for this whole IF journey- but that's a whole other story!). I haven't told him the news yet since I'd really love to tell him in person. I booked a ticket for Saturday (thanks Travelocity for your amazing last-minute deals!). I can't wait- I've been having lots of fun thinking of cute ways to tell him! Of course, I am waiting to tell any family and friends- especially given my high-risk status.

So, ladies, sorry if that was a lot... as you can probably imagine, I've been ready to burst! Promise that's the last message that's all about ME .

I've had so much fun reading about you all and I am really looking forward to learning more!

It's still so hard to grasp... Wow, we did it.

All the best,

I think it may be normal because that's happening to me too. My bbs don't hurt nearly as bad and I'm not as sick and tired as I was a couple days ago...I'm sure its our hormones just taking a little break to rear back up and kick our butts

Hi girls-

Can I join you on this thread now? I too am too scared to join a due date thread, it's just so early!

It's been great talking to you on the 2 ww, thanks for all your support.

Feto....try not to worry. I'm sure the sore bbs comes and goes, I'm guessing it's really because of all the progesterone, hopefully your RE can help with your questions.

Has anyone been experiencing really bad headaches? I believe mine are from progesterone, my RE added the suppositories yesterday, in addition to 2ml of PIO at night. He did it because I still have some bumps on my butt and just wanted to make sure that it's absorbing. The shots have been going much better since DH has been rubbing, but my RE is just being cautious...gotta love him for that. Anyway, really rough night sleeping because of the headache.....and anxiety of worrying about it everything is ok....2nd beta is tomorrow, I just pray that my numbers go up!!!

Kari

Hi Fefochka,

I remembered reading this on another thread and thought I'd repost it here. Hope in gives you some comfort:

Many of the following tidbits may apply to "regular" pregnancies as well, but the focus is for IVFers.

1) symptoms waning/fading:

Contrary to several sources on the internet citing that a pregnant woman who suddenly loses symptoms during the first trimester should be very concerned about an impending miscarriage, none of us in fact need be concerned. At the onset of pregnancy when the initial hormone levels begin rising, the body reacts a certain way. As it settles down, feeling better is just that- your body adjusting appropriately and becoming used to the hormones. Throughout a normal pregnancy symptoms will come and go without warning. A healthy body will strive toward homeostasis and it's best that your body feel good - you'll eat and rest more and the fetus reaps the benefits. Symptoms may be reassuring, but they are overrated and pretty much serve just to make a pregnant woman miserable. Your symptoms can be non-existent while your beta is tripling. There is no correlation between the hcg and symptoms. Having symptoms does not make one woman "more pregnant" than another.

Good luck today!

Fefochka- from personal experience, don't worry! My bbs were sore progressively from like 10dpo thru 5 wks and a couple of days. Then for FOUR days they weren't sore AT ALL. But let me tell you- yesterday (6weeks1day) they were the most sore they've ever been. Now today, not so much. I think the hormones fluctuate a lot, and your body sort of gets used to a certain level and then your hormones increase more and your body then has to get used to the new level.

Kari- I have also been having horrible headaches. Only two really bad ones, but I seem to always have one in the background these days. I have been trying to drink a lot of water because I don't want to be popping too many Tylenol, and that seems to help.

Isn't this 2ww even more torturous than the last!!!

Major Scare

So I got to work this morning and was cramping the whole way there. I went to the bathroom and sure enough there was blood on pad and when i wiped, I immediatley called the dr and they told me to come in asap...they did an ultrasound today and saw a sac with no yolk (they said it is too early for a yolk to be seen) they said everything looked goos and it could be implantation bleeding, cervial spotting, or just because my body has been through so much. All I know is I am petrified and so sad I fear this is the end of my beautifal baby. What do I do and for those that unfortunetly been through this before what does this seem like to you? Please be honest. I for us all and that no one else has to go through this anxiety. Oh the ultrasound tech also said there was a shadow behind the sac and because it is so early it could be anythign from another sac, a shadow, or bleeding. Please for me, I knew I could not be so blessed that this would work on my 1st try

Kari-

I've read quite a few "Early Pregnancy Signs/Symptoms" lists and headaches, invariably, are mentioned. Here's a link to a list done by the Mayo Clinic- it's nice because, it not only lists early PG symptoms, it also gives an explanation as to why you might be experiencing them: Early symptoms of pregnancy: What happens right away - MayoClinic.com

Kendra and fefochka- I forgot to mention earlier that I've also experienced decreased symptoms, including the loss of soreness in my bbs over the past two days... so, despite the fact many sites say it's normal, and I found the post from above, it still makes me nervous....

Zappy- thanks for the reassurance that we'll likely get our sore bbs back!

Oh, Bits- I'm so sorry to hear about your scare! Wow- after waiting so long and trying so hard to get PG, it's easy to understand why you would feel petrified. It sounds as though your Doc isn't too alarmed at this point and feels everything else looks good.... everything is okay.

Whew

I am back from the clinic, they let me come in today instead of Monday. They found one perfect looking embryo with a yolk and another one that my RE is uncertain about. He said he is not sure whether it will make it or not but you never know. My next u/s is on the 23rd. They expect to see/hear a heartbeat by then
