Okay Ladies - A poll!

I'm pretty sure I don't want twins (if it happens then it is meant to be I guess) ... but, every time I see these baby tickers with two little beans I get kind of giddy .

What do you want? A singleton or multiples?

We would be happy either way. I kinda am leaning towards twins since we are shooting for just one pregnancy but one would be perfectly welcome too!

Mabelina I am in MI too! I have an appointment on May 4th in Grand Rapids to see if I will cycle there or back at the U where I started in January. The cost is less and the stats are slightly better in Grand Rapids so I want to check it out even if the drive from Brighton would be a pain! If you don't mind me asking, where are you cycling?
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you...it was a crazy week. I see Dr. Dodds at the Fertility Center. He's great. I would highly recommend them as their success rates are good and their prices are pretty good.
I just went in today for our IVF consult. Unfortunately, DH got stuck in some terrible traffic/construction so he didn't make it so I had got all the information (he felt terrible about it but he couldn't help it). Anyway, I got all the info and looks like we'll be getting the ball rolling in May. Kind of crazy. In a way I can't believe it. It seemed far off but now it doesn't seem so far off. Ahhh...so much information to digest but in a wierd way I'm kind of excited

I've been trying to conceive for 13 months. I was pregnant for a very short time in September '08 but sadly lost the pregnancy (the most physically painful thing I've been through - I had a cyst burst and a miscarriage at the same time).

We've done all our tests except hubby has one more sperm test to determine whether is is IVF or ICSI. I have very mild blockage in one tube and hubby's sperm count is on the lower side of normal - but I'm 38. We've been trying so long we are getting so sad and frustrated. We figure we have one more shot here this month for it to happen naturally - cross your fingers because I am in Canada and it's $10K and none of it is covered.

Jessica - I see you are in Canada as well? I am in BC. I look forward to going through this with you girls and wish everyone the best of luck and all the baby dust I can toss!
We might have to do ICSI as well. DH is on the low side. The nurse said he might have to do another test to decide what they'll do. Some have asked what the consult entails. For me today it involved consent forms, details of the process, going over a calendar, medications, and of course the risks. It took about 1 and half hours.

We for sure have to do icsi as well as tese to retrieve the sperm the same day as my egg retrieval. My husband was born without the vas deferens and most of the epidymis so we have to retrieve the sperm from his testicle directly so it will be fresh. They don't have as good of results freezing testicular sperm as they do for epidymis sperm is what the male infertility urologist told us. It is a painful procedure and takes 3 months to fully recover. This is why we have only one shot unless we can do a frozen cycle later so I have all my fingers crossed.

I know it is still early but for those of you who do have dates already I noticed you are starting meds early July and having egg retrieval the end. Due to my husbands work schedule(he works at a wastewater plant for a water district) we have to work it out so the retrieval is as close to the beginning of July as is possible. The first three weeks of July are his biggest break from being on call so he will be able to recover from his procedure and "take it easy" without having to worry about being out all hours of the night while he is sore working on water main breaks. Does this mean I need to find a June thread or is it okay with ya'll for me to stay here?

Maribeth it looks like we will be cycling at the same place. Its a small world!

All - It looks like there are a lot of us with at least partial male factor. It would be nice if there was a magic pill to get the little guys moving!!

As for the twins thing. I would love twins but am hoping for 1 as I don't trust my body can handle 2!

Hey ya'll. I must admit twins would be great, Brooklyn. But Angie056 makes a valid point for me with my body being able to handle twins. I actually had a miscarriage at 20 weeks due to IC. It was the single most difficult thing I have ever been through. So when my husband and I decided to go through IVF, we immediately scheduled an appointment with a perinatologist that my OB/GYN referred us to so that we could discuss cerclages. I was interested in the TAC (transabdominal cerclage/pre-pregnancy), and the perinatologoist said that he could and would do it if deemed absolutely necessary. He just told me that he didn't think it was a necessity right now but he left the decision up to my husband and I. I am still considering it the more I think about it. He told me that I would have to have a c-section instead of a vaginal delivery which I am perfectly fine with. But the strange thing was that the day before I miscarried I was at the OB/GYN and found out the sex of the baby and then the very next day, my life was turned upside down. It just seemed to me that if I had dialated or was funneling, maybe if I was examined a little closer that it could have been prevented and an emergency cerclage could have been placed. But who knows... Also, the perinatologist that I saw said that just because I had a miscarriage due to IC before doesn't mean that it will definitely happen again around the 20th week or at all for that matter or that I will have IC with the next pregnancy at all. But WHO wants to take that chance? What do you ladies think? TAC or no TAC, that is my question..

Cathie- I saw the same procedure on BabyLab on Discovery Health. It was a feature on Dr. Silber and IVF. They had a couple that was going through IVF/ICSI and the man had to have a small piece of his "manhood" cut into to retrieve sperm. OUCH!!!! Poor fella!! When my husband saw that he said, "You know, adoption will be a viable option if I have to go through that!" But I know he would do it if needed.

Oh, and xaaf76x, please stick around!!! I want to hear about your experience through this whole thing. It would give me something to look forward to you since I will be following you shortly.

We actually were going to drive from Texas to St.Louis to see Dr.Silber because he invented the icsi procedure and we thought we couldn't get it done here. It was when I called my ob/gyn and talked to the nurse she asked about the urologists here. I explained to her we had been to the local one here in Arlington. His demeanor was very unhelpful, he wouldn't answer my questions, and we didn't trust him with our future. She told me about the other guy here in Frisco which is only about an hour drive and so we gave him a chance. He was very nice and knowledgable. He verified my husband did have sperm without major surgery at a 3-5k cost so we can use our money to pay for the cycling itself.

Alli- What exactly is ic? How does the cerclage prevent it? Is that where they suture your cervix closed to prevent it from dilating prematurely?
