Its an Incompetent Cervix. In a TAC (Transabdominal Cerclage) it is laparascopic surgery and the suture is higher up on the cervix as opposed to a vaginal shrodkar or mcdonald cerclage. The difference in Shrodkar and McDonald is the type of stitching for the suture. And with the TAC I could get that before I get pregnant but would have to deliver via C-Section, which I am perfectly fine with.
When I miscarried at 20 weeks a couple of years ago, my OB/GYN at the time told me that my cervix isn't strong enough to hold a baby after 20 weeks. But the perinatologist that I saw a few weeks ago said that some women who miscarry due to IC have a textbook pregnancy with the next pregnancy. But I am not one for gambling. So I have to make a decision really soon.

Alli J- Wow that is a terrible decision to have to make. On one hand you don't want to go and have an unnecessary surgery and then a csection as well but on the other hand after going through all the stresses of ivf and trying to get pregnant I know it would be hard for you to relax and enjoy the pregnancy worrying everyday whether you are going to carry it another day. Did the perinatologist say at all what the %'s were of having a perfect pregnancy the next time around would be or just that he has seen it happen?
AFM- I started my period Wednesday so called the re's office to find out about what bloodwork they would need on cycle day 3 so I wouldnt miss the opportunity. They sent me to my ob/gyn for estradiol,fsh,ob panel with hiv1 and hiv2, and also hepatitis c. We go for the consult on Monday and I am both nervous and excited. Guess we will find out then what else will need to get done before we can proceed and hopefully what meds I will be taking so I can look into ordering them and get a cost quote.

Hi Ladies,
Just wanted to join you on this thread. My dh and I will be doing IVF with ICSI the 2nd week of July. Our only issue is low sperm count but after several failed IUI's we have decided that it is time for the next step. We are self pay so we have done tons of research and cost comparisions. Now that we have chosen our doctor I'm excited. we will be doing our IVF in Indiana (near our family).

Me 30 Hubby 31 Started TTC in 2004 Began IF testing in 2005- found out we had a low sperm count (5million per ml) 2006- Did a natural cycle IUI-  We were blessed with our son Aidan 9 months laterSpring of 2008 started trying again on our own. Dec 2008- IUI  Jan 09 IUI Feb IUI March IUI - IVF in JULY 10 Eggs. 5 Fertilized. 3 perfect blast Taking a "break". Trying some serious supplements and conception cap.

I went to the RE for my consult on Monday and am also playing the waiting game. My day 3 fsh was good like 4 or 5 and my estradiol was <15. He gave me a prescription for prometrium to take 10 days starting cycle day 15 then I have to call when  arrives again to go in for more bloodwork and a baseline ultrasound but he said he felt our odds were very good given our situation and age.

Hello Everyone,
I'm 37 and live in Israel. Almost 12 years ago I was not ovulating, so my doctor put me on Clomid. After several months, I found I was pregnant with twins. By the 9th week we had one left and he stuck.....son #1. 4 months after our first was born, on BCP, I found out son #2 was on the way. No BC since and no babies  A few years ago we moved to Israel and realized that IVF is covered in our insurance. The total out of pocket is on $450  ......far cry from the cost in the States! About 2 weeks ago our RE broke his hand and will be out of commission for about 3 months!!!!!! So he referred me to a friend of his about 4 hours north. I will be calling Sunday to get an appointment. Most likely the 1st or 2nd week of May. From there we are hoping to start in July. Good luck everyone!!

Welcome Heather I am so jealous of your coverage!!! I have insurance but it doesnt cover anything past the consult and initial bloodwork. I hope it works out and you can cycle with us in July.

to the party maybeAbabyor2!!! That is some fantastic coverage you got there in Israel! xaaf76x - Did you have to get an HSG? What is the prometrium for? just arrived and I have never been so excited to see her in all my days. That means it go time! I just talked to the nurse at the RE and she has scheduled me for bloodwork and an HSG next Thursday. I am really excited to finally be doing something!

Yay I am so happy for you to be scheduled. I didnt have to have a hsg at least not so far. My cycles are very irregular only one about every 40-45 days so my doctor prescribed the prometrium to help me start. He said progesterone is what makes your cycle start so for me to take the prescription for 10 days starting cycle day 15 and then I should start
within 3 days of stopping the prometrium. I hope he is right because left to her own I wouldnt have another cycle until mid June  .

July ladies...
I'm sorry but I'm leaving you... I've bumped up my schedule and am starting the BCP on Sunday and then injections shortly thereafter. I couldn't do it - I couldn't wait. And I certainly couldn't handle one more failed natural cycle - the pain and stress of it is becoming to much for me and I need to know if I can and will have a baby - it's now or never... *sigh*
I want to wish you girls all the luck in the world and BFP's for everyone. I will come back here and let you all now if we were successful. Love and god bless and oodles of baby dust.

Hey all,
Just thought I would join this group since we are planning our 3rd attempt of IVF w ICSI in July. I live in Rogers, Arkansas and I am a RN and my RE is in Tulsa, OK ( just 2 hrs away). Fortunately, my insurance covers fertility 100% up to 4 oocyte retrievals 100%, we have just paid about 120.00 for cycle and 120.00 for meds. Or I would have already given up on this process, bc it is very stressful! I was ready to jump right on IVF again right after my last attempt, but think waiting a few months to give your body and emotions a break is best. My DH just started me on DHEA to see if helps amount of eggs, so need to take for 2 months he said to show results. So best wishes to all of us and look forward to next cycle. Jana

IVF only started dh on HGC shots to increase sperm count Oct 08-#1 IVF 5 eggs retrieved, only 3 good, no fert w/ ICSI Nov 08-CCT- normal We denied DNA Frag test for DH Feb 09-#2 IVF 4 eggs, 2 fert  Transfered 1 embryo on day 3, other one 50% frag . #3 IVF- Aug 09 8-28-04- 4 eggs retrieved, only one fert 8-31-09- ET one 6 cell embryo without frag 7dp3dt- neg HPT 11dp3dt- very very faint pos hpt 12dp3dt- very faint pos, but line darker 9-14-09 1st Beta- 36.7 9-17-09- 2nd Beta- 54 9-21-09- 3rd Beta -68, up tp 129 then 0 in a week, not doubling enough 11-2- appt w new RE 10-23-09 on HPT natural cycle. OH MY, What a surprise. 10-23-09 beta 147, prog 38 10-27-beta 1206  11-12-u/s. saw heartbeat
