whats wrong with my doc/ nurse?

So yesterday, after feeling some closure on my impending m/c (they saw the gestational sac which was too small); they also ran bloodwork, and found that my HCG level had risen slowly from 1482 on Monday to 2067 on Wednesday (only a 40 % increase).

So they call and tell me they want me to repeat the u/s and bloodwork on Monday next week again (just to be sure). Im sooo sick of this... why cant they just call it like it is, and let me move on mentally !!

And this morning I talk to my nurse to schedule the Monday thing... and she says she's still hoping things work out ... wtf ? ? How can it? Are they expecting miracles... cause im certainly not.!!

So I just check the betabase... and apparently my doubling time was 100... and the slowest on the board for those HCG levels was 400. Im so messed up. I was perfectly willing to let go... and had some nightmares last night ... crying it out. And I just dont want to think there is even a glimmer of hope ... and then for it to be dashed on Monday.

any advice ... please dont be extra encouraging. I need some realism.

Anj

Anj,

It sounds like you're riding this freaking unbearable emotional roller coaster of ivf and infertility issues... for what it's worth, ride it until it's done even if it's not easy because you really do never know what happens. Try to hang on just a little bit longer and see what happens next week. Then if it's not good, you really are done and can have some closure/move on. That's my tip from the outside of your situation. I'll be praying that whatever happens, you will find peace.

Hi Erin,

I'm excited that you have decided to adopt. My DH and I did a bunch of research into both International and Domestic adoption. The best thing to do is ask people you know in your area who have adopted what agency they used. Referrals are the best. If you don't have that as an option, then do some research online about the different agencies that work in your area. Many of them will have free orientation seminars so you can understand the process. Or you can pay to meet with one of their social workers to discuss your options.

Once you select an agency, they will organize to do the home study. This is actually several meetings with you and your DH, together and separately, in your home. It's not really a test, so much as a way for them to figure out who you are and what you are willing to deal with in terms of adoption (open vs. closed, healthy vs. special needs, etc). You fill out all kinds of forms and questionnaires. And then you create a pamphlet about you to "sell" yourselves to the birth mothers.

You asked about the Adoption Network Law Center. I don't know anything about them, but they may be a source of finding additional birth mothers. Whether or not you contact them, I would still recommend going with a local agency.

Anyway, good luck!

Leora

Hi anj

Is it possible that you misunderstood? In the case of a m/c, they need to make sure that (1) your hcg levels return to 0, and (2) that there is not embryonic material left in the uterus. This might be why they are repeating the tests. I'm having another blood test next week to make sure that the numbers are 0, in order to rule out an ectopic. Maybe you should call them to clarify so that you can have peace of mind. I wish you luck!!!

No, I doublechecked. They do usually track hCG to zero after a m/c (they did so the last 2 IVFs I had)... but right now my levels are *still* rising ... slowing... but rising. And somehow the nurse feels there is still (faint, but some) hope. Apparently there are cases when HCGs rise slower than doubling... but viable preg. result ... however, I doubt thats going to be me.

Anyway, Monday isnt too far away... it will all be confirmed then. If my HCG actually starts falling..then they know for sure.... and ask me to stop my meds. Right now, hey are still calling it a pregnancy and not a m/c.

aaargh... till Monday then.

Anj - When I read your post I became frustrated for you. This is your body and if you are not comfortable with the wait, situation, or anything you should speak up and tell them what you want. You may not get the answers or results your hoping for but maybe some satisfaction will come from having a bit of control over this.
I was very intimidated by or first clinic and felt like I was never told the whole truth or treated as an individual case so I left and ever since my stress has gone down and I am doing well.
I'm sure your doctor has your best interest in mind but I also think that sometimes they need to be reminded of the emotional toll this takes on a person and when you leave their office they may move to another client but you carry this with you 24/7.
I hope you find where this road is going soon. You are in my prayers.

Finally.......

So...my RE just called.

So much for calling before 2pm.
I called them at 2pm and 3pm telling them it was torture.

They kept telling me he was reviewing the files and would call. Finally at 3:45pm he calls.

So - its a - but my numbers are a little lower than they would like. My beta was a 22. My P4 was at 19.4.
He said we should be cautiously optimistic and I go back on Monday for another Beta.

Not sure what to think. Am shaking as this has been such a nerve wracking day.
Maybe it was a late implantation?? Who knows??

Does anyone know of anyone with low beta like this that went on to have a healthy pregnancy and baby??

Thank you ALL for your good wishes and thoughts today.

Please pray that my numbers rise !!!
