My appt with my new RE is on 4/20. I think he is going to be doing a trial transfer or something that day and deciding on the plan for my cycle. After my appt, I guess I will be making another appt with the IVF nurse for my education day. I think this is just where she will go over everything with me and the exact plan he has made for me. After that I will be good to start.

Hopefully it won't hurt anything but I already start my bcp's. came for me on 4/1 and I knew I would have to take them anyway so I went on and started them.

Jessica-My AF was due then as well, but I didn't start mine yet. The nurse told me to use them on AF that started in late April/early May. So I continue to wait

One question: It seems silly to me to try to prevent pregnancy with BCP for one month. Doesn't it normally take a couple of months for it to be fully effective?

I'm glad to see so many of us!

I sure hope it doesn't hurt that I started them already. I know that with my last cycle I was on them for quite a few months before because of my endometriosis. They say bcp can help to keep it from growing back. I guess I was just a little nervous about it. I have a friend who also has endo and after her miscarriage hers grew back really quick and it also came back alot worse.
I don't really know about the bcp. It was my understanding that it wasn't just to prevent pregnancy but something about the hormones as well. I think they may have wanted to give extra female hormornes and suppress male hormones that we naturally make. I am not for sure on that but I think that is what I remember them saying.

Well, I had my appt yesterday with my RE. And he said since my endo is so bad, they may not start IVF until the end of summer. I really hope I don't have to wait that long! Anyway, we won't know for sure until after my baseline US. So I guess we will just wait and see and hope for the best!

As far as BCP, he told me yesterday it is to rest your ovaries before they make them work like crazy. In a way it makes sense... I guess... but you are right. It seems odd to go on BCP when we are trying so hard to get pregnant!

My RE told me that taking the BCPs would get me on a regular schedule and make it easier to figure out the timeline for IVF - guess they all have their own reasons!

Question

I am trying to get a grip on how exactly the IVF cycle works. Last week, I called into RE's office to find out when they will give us our protocol. The IVF Nurse said to come in on CD3 when we are ready to start IVF cycle and they will go over protocol then.
I am wondering after reading these posts, am I going to have to wait through that whole cycle just to get started on the BCP's. She gave me an idea of the protocol that we will be doing on account of my chart, says 2-3 weeks of BCP's. But you have to start the BCP's on which day of cycle? I just really don't have a clue as to how this all happens. Anyone with any experience on that let me know. Here I have been thinking that May we will be starting BCP's and June get through stims.

Yes my RE told me the same BCP is to rest your ovaries and prevent you from getting your period. I was hoping to start BCP this month but the RN said there was no need to start taking them early to wait until nxt mth to take them and on the first day of your cycle..

Southerngirl- as far as I know you shold start BCP on the 1st on your 3rd day go in and get tested on FSH, than you would either take BCP for 14 to 20 days than take Lupron.

But all pre-testing should be done before you start your BCP so they can give you a calendar and know what meds you have to exactly take.....

Mysillyoldbear i am that everything works out in your favor.....

Cathy - I am still waiting for them to call but I have all my testing and have taken the classes so once I get that appointment I should be able to call in with my next day 1. Will you be on the short protocal as well? I get to skip quite a few shots this time around.

Jessic - The 20th isn't too far away. I will be exciting to get things stated. I don't think it will hurt anything. The usually get you to call in with your day 1 to start everything anyways. My SIL has stage IV endo and she was told to take the BCP's for a few months before she started her IVF to help delay any more growth.

trying41 - My RE told me the same as the others ladies RE's. But mostly talked about what Shari's RE said - they use it to get the timing in place. Once we call in with our day 1 they have to fit us into a schedule so there isn't a ton of girls due for an ER or ET on the same day.

Nicole - that you won't have to wait till the end of summer!

Southerngirl - I started my BCP's on day 3 but I also had taken and education session and an injections class before hand. Maybe they just want to do it all in one day. that you get to start the BCP's in May.

I met with my RE today. As of right now we are set to go in June!! Before then they are going to run a whole new battery of tests... chromosome test, recurrent pregnany loss test, anitbodies check, egg reserve... and then we will use ICSI this time. We informed the dr. that this will be our last cycle since this is attempt #3. Who knows if we will stick to that since we said after 2 attempts we would quite! Anyway, the ball is rolling and we are ready to get some more answers and try again once school is out.

Southerngirl - on my first cycle I did bc for about 3 weeks before starting Lupron and I continued for 5 days after starting Lupron then started stims on Day 3. I received my calendar about a week before starting Lupron.

Cathy - I did a short protocol in March. On day 3 I started stims and then added cetrotide (antagonist) after 5 days of stims or I believe it may be once your lead follicle reaches 14mm. Not sure if this is similar to your protocol, but this was my short cycle and there is definitely less shorts!!

My IVF Nurse is going to think I'm nuts before I even get started with this whole thing. I am going to call her yet again tomorrow just to make sure we will be starting the meds on the day I go in for CD3 b/w. These poor people.

Candice- I am really hoping that what you said on your post is what they are doing, all in one day and getting me started!

Cathy- We did a whole bunch of b/w and diagnostic stuff in Feb./March so we are all set. From the way they have talked to us the last 2 appointments they know what meds I'll be on.
I'm a Floridian too, I live in Central Florida so we're neighbors!

Kelly- Hoping that all of your tests go well! Also, that is what the nurse mentioned to me 2-3 weeks of bcp, 10 days lupron, 10 days stimming for our meds. We will get protocol on cd3 appointment.

Nicole- Sorry to hear about possibly waiting until the end of summer and hoping everything goes as planned for you.

Thanks to everyone for the input! to all!

Cathy - Basically with the short protocal you are not on the BCP's as long and you get to skip the Lupron shots. The rest is like KelB said, except I started stims when they told me to, which was 2 days after I stopped the BCP's. I didn't get until the day I started taking stims and 4 days after stims started I began taking orgalutran. Goodluck with your moving, hopefully it will be a distraction and make things go quickly. I'm not trying to alarm you but I was told not to lift anything over 15lbs while I was on meds. You run he risk of twising your ovaries. So maybe ask your RE if he recommends the same. I am from Ontario, Canada. I am expecting tomorrow so I know there is no possible way of starting this month, lol. I usually have 32-35 day cycles so if get on the 20th of May it should be a mid June ER & ET.

KelB - Congrats on getting confirmation. Goodluck with all the tests. It always ressured me when they did tests for us.

Southerngirl - Don't feel bad about asking questions. It is the least they can do when we pay them so much money, lol, j/k. I think they are used to it though and I'm sure they don't mind at all. I hope they will be starting you right away.
