HI to everyone. We had our consultation with the RE this morning to go over the last cycle and how to proceed with the next one. From what I could gather he thought the last cycle went well up until the et he doesn know if the embryos didnt do well because of their lab or what happened because they looked great at day 3 but by day 5 they had pretty much stopped growing. He suggested going ahead with another cycle when AF (I still do not know what this stands for) arrives next month and maybe add menapur this time and go with a 3 or 4 day transfer to be on the safe side. He is always stressing postivie thoughts and visualization and he is so upbeat about everything but honestly my thoughts are pretty much doom and gloom right now. But we are going to give it a shot and if this one doesnt work we are going to look into donor eggs next as I am 39 and this whole process is starting to make me feel like a shriveled up old lady .

Hello all - So I was a lurker on the site for my March IVF cycle but never posted. I wasn't sure if it would help me or not but after our 1st IVF failed (news came early this month), I was able to see all the support that the other March-ers got and I figure why not. Plus all of the results were such an inspiration to keep me going with IVF #2. So here I am. For those first-timers to IVF, it seems that there are a few of us who might be able to give you some insight into how it works and what to expect. So bring on the questions!

I hope that everyone has a chance to relax before the process begins. That's my plan at least!

Hi ladies!

Well, it looks like I will be cycling with you all in June. I am fresh off a failed IVF cycle in March (I was on the March thread too). I completely identify with ADK's comment about feeling old and shriveled up! My body is apparently an egg factory though - they harvested 63 eggs from me in March. 22 fertilized but only ONE embie was healthy according to the Preimplantation Genetics Diagnosis (PGD). (Seriously, what good is it to make so many eggs if they have multiple chromosomal abnormalities?) We transfered the healthy one in but it didn't result in a BFP. I had a phone consult with my wonderful RE today and he is going to try something different this next cycle to minimize the overstimulation so we get less eggs but a higher quality. I was so discouraged by the PGD report that I amlost didn't want to try again but he feels very confident that there are some good eggs 'in there' and he is going to try whatever he can to coax them out. I should be doing an ER around the first week of June.

The support here is great so thanks for having me and please let me know if I can help anyone in any way.

BTW, I wasn't told my protocol in advance of my last cycle and my last cycle did not contain BCPs, just follistim. This time, the ER said we will use the BCPs to calm the follies first before stimulating them. Fingers crossed that it achieves the expected result!

Best of luck to everyone. If this is your first time, be warned that it is a huge roller coaster ride. You need a good support system and some great calming techniques! Mine is bikram yoga (aka hot yoga). What's yours?

Justonemore...

I'm sorry your last IVF did not work. I will add you to my prayers that this one works out and that you get your little miracle. This is my first ivf i am very excitied...

I havent really started doing anything to help me with my emotions. I know I need to start researching because I am starting to feel overwhelmed and I do not deal with stress well. I was going to look into Acupunture.

For you ladies who have done IVF before how did you deal with all the hormones??

I know when AF arrives i get very angery and take it out on the DH....

Hope you ladies had a nice weekend!!!!

Hey ladies!! Good Evening! Are any of you taking Royal Jelly, any supplements, trying accupuncture, and/or trying any special diets to get ready for your cycle??

I am taking Royal Jelly, prenatal vitamins (have been taking these for so long. Ugh), and I want to try accupuncture.

Sending lots of !!

Royal Jelly with Pollen

Hello Stephanie, I am taking Rj/PJ with my DH as supplements. It's a taste that you'll have to get use to. It's stops being nasty after the 3rd or 4th day. I dont swallow it whole, i let it melt in my mouth and drink water to get the taste out of my mouth.
My DH hates it but it's fun watching him act like a child being fed castor oil.
Anyway, and to all the wonderful ladies on this thread.

Caty561 - When we started the IUI's and then the last IVF procedure, I realized that my DH was completely clueless about what we'd have to do. But once we got into the IUI process and especially the IVF, he wanted to learn whatever he could to be sure that we didn't get anything wrong. I'm sure that your DH doesn't want to be disappointed if anything should happen to not work out but what I bet you'll find is that when the two of you have to begin all of the shots and meds, he'll see how much you are sacrificing for your family and he'll do anything he can to support you.

The craziest part about all of this is how strong us women have to really be. It truely is a roller coaster ride (per JustOneMore)! As far as how to handle the emotions, I didn't try anything specific during my last IVF cycle. I'm considering accupuncture this time and a good friend gave me a meditation CD for infertility. I'm going to see if there is a way to share it with you guys. (I could always copy it and mail it to anyone interested but I'd like to try to post it online somewhere....just not sure about copywrite stuff). Anyway, I didn't really use it much last cycle but I wish I had.

The last piece of advice I have is to try to be selfish while you are on the meds and especially around the time of ER and ET. Last month, there was a lot of drama and negative issues going on with my family and friends and I think that I offered to support others more than I should have. Whatever you do, surround yourself with whatever it is that keeps you positive.

Sorry for the long note (just avoiding work). Warm thoughts and for all of you!

Before both of my previous BFPs, I tried acupuncture, only once, maybe twice a week for the 2-3 weeks before the ER. I am going to do that again starting the first week of May, and do it 1-2 a week up until ER. I am also going to try yoga this time. I've been taking prenatal vitamins for about 4 years now... sigh! Other than that... I just eat as well as I can, and don't drink, smoke, or do anything that could possibly make this any harder.

This is our last try with our current RE... hopefully we finally get to our goal. If not, I have been researching all over the country, looking up different clinics and what their success percentages are for women my age with my 'condition'. So far, the best percentages are in Chicago. If we unfortunately have to try IVF #5... I will be going there to do it.

that we all are by July... and then we can start a new thread documenting our pregnancies. to each of you...
