RE Appt Today :)

Wow! I see the group is really growing. That's great! To all the new ladies!!!

Well I had my appt with my RE today. Everyone at the clinic was wonderful. They really made me and DH feel so comfortable. My appt went great too!! My RE went over all of my records from my last cycle and my from my OB and thought everything looked good. He also did an u/s and measurements of my uterus and overies and said all looked great there as well. He is going to change a few things though. I do not think that I will be taking Lupron this cycle. He seems to think that it suppressed me to much last time. I don't know all the details yet. I have another appt on Thursday with the Nurse for education day. She will be going over all my meds then. Another things that was very exciting to us is that we will probibly be able to cycle earlier than originally thought. Where I started taking the BCP this month, I have one step down already. The nurse said that I could possibly be looking at my ER/ET at the end of May. She said that I would do 21 days of BCP and then call with with my day 1. Well 21 days of pills is tomorrow. Then I believe I will start the pills again on CD3 and take them for 14 and then start stims. I am excited and nervous all at the same time. I guess it has kind of thrown me off a little since I wasn't expected everything to move so quickly. I will update everything else on Thursday after my education day.

How is everyone else doing?

To all!!

So far, the best percentages are in Chicago. If we unfortunately have to try IVF #5... I will be going there to do it.

Kellay, has your RE talked to you about PGD? Typically, about half of all embryos have chromosomal abnormalities. Doing PGD will help ensure that the RE is only transferring back the healthy ones. It was offered to me because I have has 2 m/cs in the past year. I see you have too so I am wondering if this has come up. It might be a good option for you.

JustOneMore-

We haven't tried that yet, only because all of our chromo. testing has come back normal. After the 2nd miscarriage they all did tests... and everything came back normal. Kind of a horrible thing to have to consider it a 'fluke'... but so far we have no reasons to think of it as anything else. I think our motto should be Third Times A Charm?? Hopefully that is the case for us!

Hello ladies! Just dropping in to check on everyone! I see the group is growing! to everyone!

AFM- I am just waiting and waiting for AF to show! She is late.... figures. With my IUIs she was always early. What a pain! So hopefully this week and then I will know if we are still on for June or if I have to wait for 3 months. And to top it off, I am on Jury duty all week, and on a trial! So if AF decides to show now, I can't get in for my baseline! So I am keeping my fingers crossed that is all magically works out somehow.

Hope all is well with everyone else!

Hello everyone! Glad to see we're growing!

Jessica-that's exciting for you. So really, its only 2 weeks away until you start stimming. That's awesome!

I had my uterine measurements on Friday. All looks normal, so far.

We also had our "mandatory" counselling session on Friday. It was great. I asked the counsellor if it was truly mandatory, and if this was a federal thing. She said it is a federal mandate that our clinic is following, but the rules are changing. They are actually trying to make all patients undergoing any IF treatment at our clinic go to counselling.

It was a great experience. I thought I knew all I needed to know, and considered all I needed to consider, but was I wrong! She emailed us a form to fill out together, which was an assessment on our background, coping skills, and emotional preparedness. Basically all she did was go over our answers. It stimulated some good conversations between us. I'm thankful that we went.

I'm expecting AF Friday, so I'll likely start BCP then. Thank you to all who answered my question earlier!

Hi Ladies! I hope you don't mind if I join you. I've been reading your stories and you are such a great group! It's nice to see fellow teachers on here too! I teach high school English in NYC.

I was part of the April IVF'ers (who are also wonderfully supportive ladies), but we got our on Saturday. I was devastated, but I want to try again and am sick of being sad and disappointed -- so I'm just trying to focus on the BFP and BFbelly that I will hopefully have soon!

I meet with my RE on May 7th, and I guess we'll hopefully find out more about what went wrong -- I hope we get some answers, but I know a lot of it really is just luck.

I am really unsure of our timeline, does anyone know the usual timeline for second time IVF'ers?

I just got today, so day 1 it is!

-Bridget

Bridget! I am so sorry to hear about your BFN but am inspired by your positive attitude. That can truly go along way! When we had our BFN in January I was required to have one cycle without meds. We completed our 2nd IVF in March. I know each doctor/situation is different, but from what I have read this seems pretty normal.

Hi Bridget,

Typically, you take one month so, if your ovulation returns to normal, you should be ready to go in 28 - 31 days (depending on your cycle). I am in the same boat so I asked my RE if ovulation returns to normal after IVF. He said that in most cases it does but everybody is different. Here's to hoping we both bounce back quickly and can start in a month or so.

Glad to have you with us (I am in Northern NJ, just over the GW bridge)

Well, I said I wasn't going to post again until it was closer to my next IVF, but then I saw this - and was so happy to see some of my friends from the March IVF thread (hi Skogies, Shari & Adk!!!) that I just had to pop in.

I just had my consult for IVF #2 today. It was not very encouraging, to say the least. RE said that based on my response last time, I have poor egg quality. The embryologist's report said my eggs were dark and "lutenized." He told me that I can try IVF again but will have less than 10% chance of success. He was strongly suggesting donor eggs. But I'm just not ready to go there, yet.

We're going to go ahead and try IVF again in June anyway. I'm insisting we use the Estrogen Priming Protocol this time b/c I've read that Lupron can cause poor egg quality in older women - that it exposes the eggs to too much LH which can damage them. Well, couldn't THAT be why my eggs appeared "lutenized"?? My RE thinks that I just have poor egg quality b/c of my age (thanks, doc!) and refuses to acknowledge that maybe last round's protocol was responsible. Also, in January I had an abdominal myomectomy and as a result of that surgery and my return to the hospital with complications 10 days later, I took a LOT of morphine and other drugs. Couldn't THAT have adversely affected egg quality a month and a half later? Maybe I'm just grasping at straws here, but I simply refuse to give up hope and just accept that I have inherently and irrevocably "bad eggs."

I don't have any idea of my timeline yet. I'll have a better idea after shows up sometime early to mid-May.

Anyway, I don't mean to ramble on. I'm looking forward to following my "old friends" progress and getting to know the rest of you as we journey through IVF together. to everyone!

Thanks for the warm welcome!!

My IVF nurse just emailed me and said that I'll be taking the BCP this time. Does anyone know why they use this protocol?

She also said my transfer/retrieval might be at the end of May beginning of June...

Does anyone else have these torn feelings about it all? I don't want to wait but I don't want to start again so quickly. I think I'd drive myself crazy if I knew I could be working toward BFP, but I also feel so tired and scared and etc. etc.

Maybe it's just that's got me all confused and torn.

Hi rosewater I am glad to see that you are going to try again. I was relieved to see some familiar faces here as well this process is so **** hard but some familiar faces seem to make it a little easier. I should get AF early may and will hopefully be starting again my RE didnt seem to think we should do anything differently but he agreed to use Menapur this time which can help with egg quality in us older folks. We are in a similiar situation and this will be our last try before going to donor egg.

Hey Rosewater, I am so happy to be cycling with you again. As a fellow AMAer, I am totally with you on the refusing to give up and not being ready for donor eggs! It sounds like there were lots of outside influencers that could have contributed so trying again sounds very promising to me. I am just wondering, are you doing any supplements? I started RJ w/ BP, CoQ10 and Resveratrol...hoping to improve my egg quality too!

Hi everyone.

I found out that I will probably not be doing IVF in June. It will be sometime in July or later. I wish everyone the best of luck and will for BFP's all around. Goodluck.

Trying - I am glad the counseling went well. I looked into the mandatory counseling after you suggested that my clinic was bypassing it to compete with other clinics when I told you I didn't have to have counseling. To my relief I discovered that wasn't the case. The "mandatory counseling" can also be delivered by an RE/nurse. I had to attend a 2 and a half hour education session on all things IVF and that is considered to be "mandatory counseling". Our government probably should specify the laws a little clearer than that. I was an egg donor for my SIL and for that they absolutely made us see a real counsellor, no ifs and or buts on that one. Anyways, goodluck to you. Here's hoping for a few more Canadians in 2010!
