I should have asked this earlier (not 45 mins before my apt)... but has anyone had a mock transfer done? I'm heading to the dr soon -- I'm nervous that my bladder won't be full enough so I'm pounding water. Now I'm nervous I won't be able to hold it long enough. Agh, I can't win!!!

Red face # of Embies

My RE will allow us to put back up to 4 with "provisions". He will only put back 2 "perfect" embies. If there are a couple that are not doing so great and he's fairly certain that they wouldn't make it to freezing he will allow us to tranfer those as well. But we have to sign all sorts of releases and such stating that we understand the risk of multiples and all that stuff. Last time we transferred 2 great and 1 "eh" embies and none of them took so we'll see how this one goes. Hopefully we will get more eggos and have some to freeze. Last time with 17 follies only 10 eggs were mature and of those 10 only 4 fertilized...only 3 made it...so we tend to be "risk takers" and have more put back cause we don't get as good quality as we would like. I'm hoping for BIG numbers this time. I told him to make me as uncomfortable as possible I can take the pain for a few weeks and would rather have lots of options. What can i say...i'm a glutton for punishment! so here's to hoping. i called them with my day 1 this morning. I'm waiting to hear back from them as to when to start taking BCP and get my baseline b/w and u/s.

I'm the same!! I told my dr that I don't mind the discomfort if it means a baby in the end!!

Like you, we had 3 transferred last time and none stuck. Did your RE give you any reasons why? We're just starting to look at this area, so I'm interested in what others have learned along the way!

My mock transfer was easy-peasy. It felt like getting a pap smear, but wetter. I didn't need a full bladder to do it, though. As a matter of fact, I remember they asked me to go ahead and use the ladies room right before.
I thought you only needed a full bladder for the real deal.

Hey there.
AF arrived on Saturday so I did day 3 BW this morning - ultrasound looked good. A talk with the doc. was reassuring. He's awesome. My tentative schedule is in my sig..... I'll be starting BC for the first time in my life on Wednesday my 41st birthday - so ironic.
Am I the oldest in this group? or do I just feel like an oldie because you are all so young! Anyways I did join the over 40's section of the forum so that will be cool.
PG-FL - I'll be doing a mock transfer too but I don't know when - did you do yours today? Look forward to hearing about it!
If anyone has done this before please give us the gory details!

thanks to everyone who responded to my anxious ranting about our impending IVF. came on saturday, i went in for bw today and start bcp tomorrow. i also had to schedule an hsg?? is that when the shoot water in my uterus? why didn't they do that test before i went through all this?? i also scheduled my trial transfer, which i'm totally freaked out about. i don't want to pee all over them!! i'm still nervous and just frustrated. our insurance ran out, so now everything is out of pocket, and we are lucky enough to have the ability to do this....i think....i'm just so mad we have to in the first place.

august will be here before we know it!!

justwannababy - I believe an hsg is when they check for blockages in your tubes using a dye they inject. It's a little uncmfortable no biggie.....but I'm surprised this wasn't one of the first things you had done - I'd ask.
Typical that I walk away from the phone for 2 minutes and they call with my results....so I had to listen to a message. So my FSH has gone up to 8.5 and my Estrogen was 77

hello

Can I join you ladies? Getting ready to start IVF cycle #2. My first cycle back in February ended in miscarriage at 10 weeks, so I am hoping that this cycle will be more fruitful. DH and I have male factor problems an will be doing IVF with ICSI again. He has poor morphology. Back in February his morphology was 0% normal. He has been seeing an acupuncturist though and his recent sperm analysis came back at 14%, almost halfway to normal. I am hoping that this cycle will bring us a miracle. Look forward to getting to know you all. I remember you Kickernick from my last cycle. Sorry to see you on here too!

OK, here's the summary on what I did today - both an SIS & mock transfer.

I had to go with a full bladder, which wasn't so bad until they told me they needed "just a few drops" when I got there. Ooohh that was effort not to open the flood gates. Then after waiting for another 20 mins ... they started the ultra sound (the kind on top of your stomach) and she told me to take a cup and fill it 3/4 of the way because my bladder was TOO full (no kidding!!!). Then the DR came in and put just a small catheter up there while the nurse had the ultrasound thingie on top of my stomach. I could watch on the screen as the catheter went up into the uterus. Totally NOT painful. They were taking measurements and whatnot while they did that. And that was the mock transfer.

Then I was allowed to go to the bathroom - thankfully!!!! Then I assumed the position again and he did an SIS (Saline Infused Sonography), which is much like an HSG test, but not nearly as involved or as painful. But a similar concept. During this I had one small cramp (which is nothing!), and I could see the dye fill up the uterus. I kept apologizing about what-comes-in-must-come-out (I had visions of it splashing straight out at the dr, but of course it didn't!!! In fact there was minimal liquid). Then I got to clean up, get dressed, and the DR showed me all the images and explained everything. As Tanter said: Easy-peasy!

The DR said everything looked great. I think he even said "beautiful" at one picture of my uterus! I even have all my meds ordered (we'll find out tomorrow how much that's going to cost - yikes!). Things are looking like they are READY TO GO.... after the next 4+ weeks of BCPs......

So, I didn't have an hsg, but early on I had a sonohystogram - and my RE said everthing looked good. (Not sure if I spelled it right.) Should I have gotten an hsg, also? Maybe you only need one or the other depending on what the specific issue is???

1dayatatime - I am not that far behind you. I'll be 38 in a couple of months. Geez, time flies!!! Seems like I was just 28!!!

2linesin09---LOVE THE NAME
Your story sounds almost like mine. My DH also has MF, although my RE considers it borderline. But his last SA showed 35% morphology. Not great either. We also had a m/c at 10 weeks. Just out of curiosity, did your RE say that he felt the MF could have caused the m/c?? I am so confused about this, it seems to me that if the embryo is already created, all it has to do is grow, so would the affect its growth?? Wish you all the best with your upcoming cycle!!

I also did a "mock transfer" a few weeks ago. I did not need a full bladder. My cervix was not cooperating, so he dialated it, which didn't feel so great, but then the "mock transfer" went really smooth.

Congrats to all of you who is visiting with , and those who get to start BCP's.......

With all my transfers, we have put back 2, and only 1 stuck this last time. So, we are leaning toward 3 this time. But my RE did say, if we have 2 perfect blasts, then we would not do 3. My DH and I both would love to have twins. So, if he wants to put back 3, then that is OK......

okay, so i had that wrong....i'm not having an hsg, i had that already, with the dye and all. i had that a year and a half ago. i was scheduled for an shg, which i guess is when they put water in the uterus and look for polyps and/or fibroids. i want to ask them though, i had a lap done in jan of 08....wouldn't stuff like that have shown up on that test? and if not, then why didn't we do this test forever ago??!! anyway, that's a week away...re said it doesn't feel much different than an iui, so i'm good with it.

welcome to all the new people....i'm glad i have this board to talk with people who truly understand, and so that my poor dh doesn't have to hear the same stuff over and over and over....poor guy.

yeah for bcp....i start tomorrow!! there's such irony in that it makes me laugh.
