Linz- My heart goes out to you and DH! I really hope you get through this quickly and can begin your next cycle. Praying that those darn cramps calm down a bit and you can enjoy your weekend.

Manda-Glad to see you on here! I was actually thinking about you and then saw your post....strange! How are things with you? When can you start your next cycle?

Wewantababy- Those beta levels are fantastic! Sounds like you have nothing to worry about. Yeah, right....as if us IVF girls don't worry about EVERYTHING!!!! But congrats! I am so happy for you!

Hey NLP!! I know I have not been on in a while, we were moving into our house and I had to time! I am good, looking to do our FET in the begining of Feb. I am hoping to set it up to take place on our Anniversary. While I am waiting for that I am going to get a long needed surgery on my foot that is bothering me to no end. Want to get it done before I am preggo, could only imagine what it would feel like with all that extra weight...LOL!!! Looks lke your having a Boy....congrats!!!! I am super excited for you!! Does anyone know what is going on with PG?

i'm telling you...i swear by the CBE fertility monitor!! my sept cycle (after failed IVF) was 43 days and then in Oct on CD 12 it said it was a peak day - - i was like this thing is SO off there is NO WAY i'm about to ovulate and sure enough here we are. IMO totally worth the $200 investment (especially if it just saved us $5K for a FET!!!! for your natural !!!!!

sloulamp - i'm hoping this next 10-12 days goes SUPER fast for us

Manda- i was wondering about PG too...hope all is ok with her. i can't help with the HSG...i didn't need one. i love the idea of scheduling the transfer on your anniversary....DH and I actually conceived this while away for our anniversary!! def good idea to do the foot surgery now

Enjoy your weekends!!

Hey Michelle,

Glad to see another local. Here is my opinion for what is it is worth. I used Dr. Prough there, Blackwell's partner, but you end up seeing both during stim ultrasounds. Dr. Prough is very nice and will be very open and honest with you. I have some good and bad thoughts about that clinic. I feel like Dr. B is more sensitive-prob bc a woman and she had kids later in life- and she even once told me maybe we would get lucky and get preg again on our own. Dr. Prough said our first visit- we never would get preg on our own again bc my dh sperm issues. ( Well I am now 6 weeks preg on our own after 3 failed ivfs) we had zero fert after first cycle and I only had like 3 good eggs. Dr. Prough rec donor right away- I thought that jumped the gun a little early plus my ins covers 4 ivfs 100%. well we tried again- had 2 fert, but only one made it and i had a BFN. I talked to him again about anything else to try and he only rec I try DHEA and I did for 4 months and still only had 4 eggs and one fert and i got preg but m/c right away. Looking back now, seems a lot of women on here have RE's that try new protocols for poor responders- he never did for me. I haven't talked to him since. Their IVF nurse, Joni, is good at her job, I guess??, but not very personable and always acted like she wanted to get me off the phone, except the time when she told me I was miscarrying. I think I also upset her when I was m/c I wouldn't go back and drive 2 hrs there for follow up labs bc I could have it done at my local OB and they can do same thing. She was mad I could tell. Well, after I found out I was preg- I left a message with Dr. Prough's nurses and one with IVF nurse, Joni to say I am preg and just wanted to let them know and I ahd extra meds I wanted to donate- well neither ever called me back. not sure why?? They had always called me back real prompt before when I had ??s. I had my records sent to new dr- maybe he found out and they said to not return my calls?? crazy. I had decided I was going to switch to see other group in Tulsa- Dr. Bundren- he works with the Bennett Group in Oklahoma City- you go to OKC just for retrieval and transfer, rest is done Tulsa (MPisready-Maria used them) If you look at the stats for both groups- TFC has about same success rate as Dr. Bundren for 35 and younger, but over 35( I am 37) Dr. Bundren has a much much higher succes rate- like 67 to 20 percent?? go to IVF Success Rates - Compare National IVF Fertility Success Rate Data Top IVF Clinics to see. I know this is long response- but I really rec you research both places and find which one works best for you. This is a very stressfull and expensive process. Please PM me anytime if you have ??s or email me janalharris@hotmail.com .

Hope all works out for you,
Jana

Oh sorry, just realized you have started cycle- so guess I should not have said to research groups first. TFC does have high success rate and I know a lot of people that have had success with them.
Best of luck,
Jana

Jana,

Thank you soooo very much.. I am very anxious about this whole process and really didn't know where to start... We picked Tulsa Fert. because it was one of the clinics my OB (Dr. Birch) gave us... Either UAMS or Tulsa.. Tulsa is closer.. So that is how we ended up there. I did look at the stats and felt like it would be an ok place.. UGH! But how do you ever know really... I like Dr. B (from the 1 time I have seen her) but got a weird vibe from Joni when I talked to her on CD 3 this past Wednesday.. At my consult I wasn't really told anything but we looked like a good canidate for IVF with ICSI due to DH's low count and to do bloodwork on CD3 but she also gave me the IVF packet with all the instructions for calling getting on BCP but never verbalized that I was for sure moving into IVF. BUT when I called Joni - I felt she thought that I have done this a few times before. She was a little "hard" to read really... I want to make sure I am doing the right thing at the right time.. When Joni returned my call she was like "So you are calling to tell me that you are starting your fresh cycle" I was like I have NOOO idea what I am doing, I am just following the directions from the packet... So we shall see I guess.. Nervous, excited, a bit lost..

Thanks for any input and congrats again!

Michelle

Michelle,

I don't want to discourage you in anyway to feel bad about using TFC. There used to be another IVF nurse- 2 diff ones since I had been goin there that were nicer. Joni is just not personable at all!! Just follow the calendar they give you. Ask me any ??s if you have some. but keep asking them as many questions as you have. Don't let them make you feel you are in their way- they are providing a service and you are their customer, a big paying one too. I felt Dr. Proughs nurses are much nicer- but they don't deal with the ivf, I guess, just Joni. They know their stuff and are good, much better than UAMS,I cannot even find stats from UAMS. I do feel Dr. Prough jumps to IVF right away, but I bet you will have success first try since your issues don't seem too bad. I wonder why they didn't try any other txs first since you don't have issues? A friend if mine here, got preg after 3 IUIS with Dr. Blackwell after rec IVF. She has PCOS and he has low everything, she begged dr. B to try IUI and it finally worked. Dr. Prough put my dh on hcg shots 3 times a week right away to increase his testosterone levels and it did increase his sperm counts- guess you cannot change motility or morph? only ICSI for that. So maybe that helped us get preg too on our own. I took DHEA, royal jelly and we both took fertility blend for this 3rd cycle- so maybe all that helped too I got preg so close to lst cycle.

Just relax and take one day at a time.. this board gives a lot of support, but don't compare yourself to everyone's stories bc it will drive you crazy. Can't wait to hear how it goes for you and when you get your BFP.

Jana

I had it done awake, and it wasn't too bad... a little uncomfortable, but not anything too terrible. Take whatever drugs they advise you to take though... I am allergic to ibruprofen so took Aleve and that worked great for me. Good luck!

Jana,

you have made me feel much better!! I think the reason we are moving straight to IVF is my husband's low numbers without any other hormonal reason.. All is bloodwork is normal so there is no explanation on what is causing the low number - everything else is in the low normal range with his SA... So really no treatment it looks like to just increase numbers (from what his Urologist has said as well as RE). With Joni... I am an RN as well and can handle alot of this by learning as I go. I think the real problem is (my impression at least) is she is so used to talking to people about the procedures and does not realize that just because she explained it to the person she just talked to before me it doesn't mean that I know what she just explained to someone else (if that makes sense).. Sometimes Nurses forget that just because you just told one person directions the next person may need the exact directions and they didn't hear the first thousand times you have explained it to others. She didn't even tell me to expect a phone call from a mail order pharmacy that she was going to send my scripts to.. I got this random phone call yesturday without expecting it.. That was quite aggravating because I never want to be unprepared and heck I don't even have a calendar yet to answer the pharmacy's questions on when they need to ship the meds... BUT, I plan on following the instructions they give, ask questions, etc.. You have made a difference to me today, Thank you!

Hey Michelle,

I am a RN too. I work in ICU NMWC-Bentonville and a Mercy clinic every Wed giving shots. Where do you work? Well being a nurse def helps understand the meds for IVF and the shots. I gave all my own bc my dh was too scared to give my PIO shots.

How funny... It is a small world... I am actually out of the nursing field at this time.. I am the office manager at my husband's dental office in Siloam Springs (we live in Tontitown)... I have been there about a year now... Before then I worked at FDC in Fayetteville in internal medicine.. Did a little work at WRMC ER - My heart and passion is Trauma and I came from a large ER in Louisville, KY prior to moving to NWA.... I vow never to work in a clinic again )....

I hope you are having a wonderful day.. andGOOO HOGS!!

Congratulations on starting your cycle! I started with Dr. Prough at TFC but switched to Dr. Bundren because of his success rate. I know a lot of people who have had great luck with Dr. Blackwell as well.

Best of luck to you! Unfortunate that we have to drive all the way to Tulsa isn't it?!?!
