Smile August 2009 IVF

I know it's still early, but I thought that I would start a new thread for anyone looking to cycle in August. I would love to cycle again sooner, but I'm in the process of finding a new RE.

Take Care

I think we are shooting for July/August as well. IVF #2 for us. Thought about changing RE's but I'm very comfortable at the clinic we go to now. Do you mind if I ask why you are changing? Thank you for starting this thread.....August seems so far away but will be here before we know it.

I'll hopefully be joining you in August! You're right, it will be here before we know it!

Hoping to get my wonky thyroid in order before then and possibly cycle once naturally after that...if no luck, will move on to IVF.

In the meantime, I'm surprising DH with a puppy! I've always told him "when we have kids" and now I'm realizing it just doesn't make sense to keep waiting to do/not do things "until we have kids." Wish us luck!

Hi Doolsc - I apologize up front for taking the lazy way to explain the situation with my re.... here's a previous post that I had written about him...

"Now that time has passed and March madness is coming to an end, I'll give you a quick run down about what happened after retrieval. Out of the 7 eggs that the re retrieved, 3 were mature, 3 were immature, 1 was degenerated. So that left us with 3 and out of those only 2 fertilized. We did do a 5 day transfer (I held out for it). Speaking of the transfer, it was horrible. I was in so much pain that I was holding onto the sides of the table with tears running down my face. It took multiple attempts and each time hurt worse than the one before. What I don't understand is how during our iui cycles the nurses never had a problem and it was completely painless, but the re couldn't get it.

I think the worst part of if was that we felt that my re lied to us. You have to understand something about my re... he's really out there. You could have the worst looking embryos in the world and he would tell you that they are terrific. He's optimistically deceitful and takes the power of positive thinking way too far, bordering on being cruelly misleading. He told us on the day of the transfer that we had a beautiful looking blastocyst and other embryo was a little slower, but still hanging on and that he felt positive about this cycle. Prior to the transfer we implored him to be honest with us about the quality of the embryos. Don't get me wrong, I'm a true believer of positive thinking, but I'm also realistic and want medical facts... not sunshine blown up my rear end.

I should have known better than to believe what he said . I didn't even make it to beta. I started bleeding a few days before it, but like a good girl I went in for my beta. While I was there, I asked about the grades of the embryos. The nurse wouldn't give me any answers and said that she would have an embryologist call. So I patiently waited for the call and was floored by what we found out. One embie was a 1cd and the other a 1d. In most practices a 1 is the highest grade given, but no, not in ours... 1 is the worst.

Anyway, I needed time to regroup, cry, and mourn another disappointing cycle.

This coming week should be an interesting one. My dh and I have an appointment with Dr. "it's up to the universe, man"... and yes he does say this OFTEN ... along with words like "groovy and hip". I truly believe if he starts in with his psychedelic, hippy speak, my dh is going to lose it. I'm not even sure why were going."

Doolsc to add insult to injury, my re wasn't even there the day we were scheduled for our one on one with him. No one from the office bothered to call us. It was assumed that talking with his nurse practitioner would be acceptable. My husband and I were both floored.

Also my re's success rate for my age group 38-40 dropped from 25.5% (percentage of transfers resulting in live birth) in 2006 to 17.5% with a 12% cancellation rate in 2007. The implantation rate at his clinic for 2007 (again for my age group) was 9.6%). It sucks that sart reports numbers almost 2 years behind. If we would have known how bad his numbers were, I think we would have gone somewhere else to begin with.

It's really too bad that I want to change re's... I love his office staff. The nurses and the girls up front are great.

Sorry for the long post.

Hi girls!!! I too hope to start cycling in the August/September timeframe and boy I can't wait!! I actually called my insurance company today to see what was covered.

I feel like I am bursting out of my skin to start again...hope I feel the same way once I'm injecting myself..LOL!

I figure in a week or so I will call my RE to schedule an appointment w/ him for my husband and I to discuss the protocol this time round, so any questions that you be asking your doctor, please share because I'm really not sure what I should be asking.

Good Luck girls!!! We're gonna have ourselves some babies in 2010!!!

Hi Jen - I didn't think that I could get excited about going through another cycle, but I'm getting there. I'm hoping that the new re will do the estrogen priming protocol for me. We'll see what he has to say.

Kickernick...Wow you've been through a lot. I think I would move on as well. Have you chosen another RE? You stated you were going to pursue EPP protocol this round. I am going to suggest this as well. We did MDL last round. I am having a 3rd Laparoscopy on the 6th of June and scheduled for follow up on the 18th were we will discuss our next steps.

Hi Doolsc - We haven't chosen one just yet. We're going to meet with 2 different re's in the next month. And... yes, I definitely want to find an re that uses the epp protocol. We did mdl both cycles and had less than stellar results. The funny thing is my fsh isn't bad (6.1 last cycle) so I'm hoping that it was the protocol that was causing an issue with quantity/quality and not just "old eggs".

Can I ask why you're doing another laparoscopy? The reason I ask is that I had one done last year and they removed a lot of scar tissue (most likely caused from previous abdominal surgeries) and when I asked the np about doing another one to make sure that things aren't all scarred over again, she said no it wouldn't matter if we planned on doing ivf anyway.

I'm hoping to cycle again in August/September depending on when shows up again. In the meantime I'm trying to get my body geared up for it; eating healthy, exercising, acupuncture and herbs. for all of us and lots of .

Hi Ladies! I was thinking of starting an August/September thread too! I am glad I am not the only one!

I was supposed to do my first IVF in June, but because of some issues with my ovaries I will be on Lupron for 3 to 4 months. So it looks like I am on track for August or September!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone! And hoping the time will fly by and result in bunches and bunches of BFPS!

My 1st laparoscopy in 5/08 was exploratory, dx with Uterine Septum, performed hysteroscopic resection to cut out septum. After miscarriage RE recommended another laparoscopy to rule out uterine issues. 2nd laparoscopy discovered additional septum and performed another hysterocopy 10/08. Miscarried two more times. Last meeting with RE he gave suggested another laparoscopy to again rule out any uterine issues. We are taking a break as we spent an entire year going trough the ups and downs of IF. I figured I would go through the procedure again to rule out the uterine septum. Hope this made sense

Hi everyone! Looks like I'm going to be joining the IVF adventure... and I'll be ready to go for a mid-August retrieval. After 3 failed cycles of injections + IUIs, they gave me the choice of another IUI cycle or to go to IVF. I will go in tomorrow to see if I'd even get the go-ahead for another iui cycle (I doubt it, I was over-stimmed last cycle and I'm sure I have a cyst or something). If I do get the go-ahead, I might be able to get 1 more try with injections + iui, and if that doesn't work I could get into the Aug IVF group. My doctor only does IVF every other month.

I'm fully expecting to have to sit our for 2 months, then get geared up for IVF in August. But I'll be able to confirm that after my apt tomorrow morning.

It sure will be a long wait from now until August... seems like it's so far away!!!

WOW , Kick, that was unbelievable what you had to endure. I am at a loss for words. I was upset that my RE is the opposite, blunt & to the point. Mine caught me off guard with our day 3 embryo progress saying that they looked really really bad and don't get my hopes up to even expect a transfer. I was shocked, caught off guard and upset. Now I look back and realize he did me a favor. I just feel bad that yours was not totally up front with you. your feelings are definitely justified and I agree it is a good idea to look for another RE you are comfortable with. I would tell the new RE everything and let him know what you expect out of him. Again, I am so sorry for your bad cycle. I completely identify and know what you are going through.

I accidently started another THREAD August ivf but I just found you ladies !! Can someone tell me how to delete it? I tried editing it but it wont let me delete the thread.

Anyway, looking forward to joining you all for the next August cycle! I am going to start stimming the first week of Aug.
