Describe Implant Procedure to me? Please

So girls, I'm not doing a retrival, just implant. What happens? Is it really "like an IUI" or is it much more intense? Similar to the fun of the freaking sonographicwatershootingdoesshehavegoodtubes test? (I forget the name) or worse? I wonder because they said "like an IUI" (which I feel in general is no biggie) but then they prescribed valuim (I'm spelling that wrong).

Help? I don't mind pain and suffering...I just like to be prepared in advance.

well, technically, you're having transfer and you're HOPING for implant!!

i don't think that transfer is any big deal. no pain. the speculum is big and i don't like it, but that is probably the worst part for me.

i had valium and didn't notice that it did anything for me.

but i didn't have any pain at all and really couldn't feel anything during the procedure - other than the speculum, that is!!

good luck!!

LOL I suppose you're right, I was putting the cart before the horse, but I'd really like some implantation after a year of this crap.

The speculum is always an issue for me. Narrow canal (tmi I know) so now I'll just stress over that a bit LOL but really, if that's it, I can deal with that pretty easily heh heh

We have a very long drive back to my mom's afterwards and I'm almost thinking of skipping the valium so we can go to a nice place for dinner while we're child free in the city....is that a stupid thought? (I suppose wine is out of the question at dinner LOL)

the valium didn't do much to me and i could've gone out to dinner easily. except - my clinic wants us to do nothing on the day of transfer.

if your clinic is fine with you doing stuff, you should be fine to go out to dinner!!

It's like IUI but the catheter tube is like half the width. IUI was uncomfortable for me but my ET was a breeze. That said, I did IUI umedicated and then in addition to the Valium my clinic gave me, I also took a Vicodin. The nurse thought I was loopy for medicating so much but I have had some pretty bad cramping when docs were mutzing around in my girlie bits in the past and wanted to make sure I didn't have any hiccups to the process!

Just so you're not lulled into complacency by all the good stories, I thought I'd share mine. My first ET was REALLY painful. They're pushing down on your full bladder with the ultrasound wand, which is pretty uncomfortable, and for some reason the RE had a hard time getting the catheter in. I was cramping really bad and it didn't seem like the valium helped at all.

Second time was a totally different story. They prescribed 2 valium, which I gladly took and it made me feel really tipsy. Didn't drink as much water this time, so bladder wasn't as full (I'm slim anyway, so they didn't need a completely full bladder to see through me). It felt like a regular pap smear - a little uncomfortable, but no big deal. And it worked!

So you never know how it'll go. But DEFINITELY take the valium! Good luck!

Has your RE scheduled a mock transfer? Sometimes this helps them figure out a gentle way in, not to mention how big your uterus is!

I had no problem with the transfer - didn't feel a thing. Was lucky not to have to drink water or have the guided ultrasound. Not to mention I didn't even take Tylenol for the procedure.

Be prepared for anything though. (isn't that a boy scout motto?)

Mine was not so bad...

Dear Igloo,

My transfer was a piece of cake. I took a 10 mg vallium and a vicodin, also. I usually have pain even with just a pelvic but found this procedure very comfortable and quick. I was also told to go home and go to bed and not engage in any activity until the next day. Good luck, hun!

That is very interesting, cause my RE said that if you have an easy transfer, then your chances of a successful cycle go up! That definitely seems true with your case.
