Also, how often in and when the US do they re-test, if you get a positive, to re-check your beta levels?

Tracy

Tracy!

I spent 3 weeks in Japan last year, it was amazing. I never made it to Osaka, but I bet it is lovely.

That must be really hard to have the extra stress of a language barrier during IVF. But you've made it pretty far into the process!

As for the pregnancy tests, I think the most common practice is to test your Beta Hcg numbers about 2 weeks after ER. (So the beta you were talking about is what they are actually testing for, the pregnancy hormone hcg that is released when your embryo implants and continues to secrete more and more of the hormone as your baby grows).

You can find beta hcg ranges online, but I wouldn't put too much weight in the ranges. The rule of thumb is that they usually test 14 days after ER and then 2 days later and by that time your beta hcg numbers should be doubling every time. They continue to do this for a little while to make sure the numbers are doubling.

Though low numbers and not doubling can be a sign of a problem, I've seen plenty of ladies come back from low betas and non-doubling betas to normal betas. So you have to be careful about reading too much into them at first.

Though, with my miscarriage in October our first beta was okay and then when we went back in it actually went down (beta 1 was 47; beta 2 was 27) -- this was an indicator that I was losing the baby, and I sadly did.

So, 14 days past ER, test for beta hcg, #s should double every other day.

Hope this helps!
Bridget

5dp5dt on day 5 of a full week bed rest...

Hi ladies! I'm so glad there are many of us in tww to chat with. My first beta is on 06/11. I am debating if I should do HPT Sunday (scared of the results, but anxious at the same time).

Reading all of your post is comforting while I lay here in bed waiting. My DH is out of town on business. 4 friends have been tending to my needs while he is away. He comes home on Sunday.

I'm new to this lingo (started checking out forums yesterday) and have to look up the acronyms, however I don't see PUPO and POAS in the list. Can anyone help?

Current symptoms...
Sleepy in the afternoon (3-4 hour naps) despite the fact I'm in bed all day long and only have bathroom privileges (30 mins a day).
Wake up with the worst hunger pains (pit of my stomach pains) for the last 3 days (very unusual) because I usually don't have my first mean until lunch time.
In the last 3 days very nauseated.
BBs have been sensitive since ER.
Crampy since ER.

I appreciate reading all of your post. I wish everyone patiences and !

hello fellow 2 weekers! i've been lurking on this thread for a bit, but decided to post, since i just started feeling very crampy today, including the back ache i always get when i get my period. i am 6dp2dt, so according to dani's chart (thanks dani!!) that would put me around when implantation starts. with my one and only pregnancy last year had no symptoms, so i'm hoping this is a good sign that maybe 2 or even 3 implanted!
and i have all the regular pg symptoms, which are a result of the lovely progesteron suppositories i'm on - sore bbs, fatigue, gas, slight nausea in the morning...UGH!
glad to see all you ladies on here so we can enjoy this ride together!

Heart My very first IVF: 6dp3dt

Hello ladies,

Just wanted to wish everyone of you good luck and lots of
... Well, so easy to say "hang in there", but hard to do... I simply don't feel like doing anything but reading the forum and interpreting the symptomps, which as a matter of fact almost completely disappeared since yesterday. I had cramping and bloating and felt more sleepy too...dunno, if it was indicated by hcg or the fact, that I don't feel anything since day 5pt is a bad sign? Any ideas? Beta day is on the 10th.

UGH 3dp3dt. Will the wait never end I've been crampy last night and this morn, hope that is a good thing. OHSS symptoms seem to be getting better (but it is 7 am here, and they seem to get worse as the day goes on, so who knows). Really hoping this works for us, and all of you as well.

I'm trying to keep busy, but it seems no matter what I'm doing my mind seems to turn towards this cycle and what is going to happen. I have to admit my confidence is kinda dwindling with every cramp. I'm just so used to ectopics (I've had 3) that I equate every pain to something bad. It's silly because now I have no tubes so that's not much a possibility. Am also worried that my OHSS is not getting worse which nurse said it would if I was preggers.

It's like being a kid and waiting for Santa....and hoping I've been good enough for a present

Good luck to all of you as well

Good Morning, Ladies!!

And, new members!

I'm just checking to see how everyone is feeling... I woke up convinced that this cycle is not going to work. Major downer- I know. I'm just not getting any symptoms (besides sore bb and that's probably from PIO) and my stim cycle was botched. Is it normal to just give up hope halfway through the 2ww?

I didn't think I'd want to POAS, but now I really want to- I need to- I MUST!! I did a 3dt on Monday, so I guess I'm 5dp3dt? I'm assuming if I start POAS today it'll be negative because the HCG leaves in a week, right? And, sometime mid-week next week I'd be in the window for an accurate hpt?

Just looking for a little guidance on the whole POAS thing... thanks!!

emmysmom: I hope you are starting to feel better. Don't give up hope, it's all we have during this horrid waiting period. If your OHSS was not bad to start with, I heard it does not always get worse if your pregnant.

thebunn: I know it can be easy to get discouraged but don't give up hope. It probably is too early to POAS. If you do choose to go that route keep in mind it is never over until the Beta. I know that is hard if your getting a lot of negatives, but I have heard of numerous people getting negatives before the beta but the beta showed they were actually pregnant.
Unfortunately because of all the meds we are on and what we put our bodies through for each cycle, normal pregnancy symptoms can be very misleading. You never know what it is from which I find the most nerve racking!
Good luck to everyone and hope you are all doing well this morning.

to all the new 2WWers!

Amy-- I agree with Jessica, I would wait until you are 7dp3dt to POAS, just in case. I am right there with you though. I was feeling hopeful and then started feeling down last night. But I am going to try and shake it off and just have hope. We'll see how well that works, lol.

Emmysmom-- I know it is hard not to read into every little thing, but since we are all individuals, OHSS, pregnancy, and IVF are going to effect all of us in different ways. Keep the faith! Chances are those embies are growing strong!

AFM-- After laying around for since transfer on Wednesday, I am so stiff! Do you think it would be bad to get a little massage (like a chair massage)? Do you think it would release toxins in my body? Could I do yoga now? I'm so scared to jostle the little ones!

Here's to some serious embryo nestling and attachment this weekend!!

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I'm happy to know that I'm not the only one driving myself nuts during the tww.

Bridge, I'm stiff too and my RE has put me on a full week bed rest. Monday is when I will get liberated. All is worth it for the reward . I would advice against a massage because as you said it will release toxins. There are pregnancy massages out there that are offered, but my girlfriend who is a masseuse only does them to 2nd trimesters preggers.

thebunn, I know it is hard to get your hopes up for the fear...its easier to be "I knew it" then to be let down. I'm always harder on myself than anyone. The funny thing is I expect the best from everyone, but I can't with myself. So I decided early on, this is not about my expectations for myself but for my 2 little angels I've set expectations high for them and expect them to stick around .

I've been having the most vivid dreams since 3dp5dt. Last night I dreamt that I broke out with the worst rash that affected the entire left side of my body. I even rubbed my face in my sleep and felt the bumps. I woke up to Stella licking my face. It was the weirdest. I don't have such vivid dreams usually. I think the bed rest is driving me crazy.

Well wishes to everyone in tww land. Have a great weekend, too!

Angels

I was just told that meant something different than I want I referring them to. What I meant by the angels is the two little embies. Sorry for the confusion.
