2nd time (or 3rd, 4th...) IVF in July/August anyone?

Hey ladies

Looking to find some cycle buddies for my up coming IVF in July/August. This will be our 2nd fresh IVF, as we got a negative from our 1st, in May.
Our first cycle went great - it just didn't 'stick'. We had 10 eggs retrieved, 8 were mature, 6 fertilized and all 6 made it to day 5. We transferred 2 on day 5 and froze 3 on day 6. It was the worst day of mine and my husbands lives together when we got that call, but have since picked ourselves up and are ready to continue the fight.
I'll be starting Suprefact on July 10th (CD 21) - after about a week I'll get a period, then we'll start stimming.
Sometimes I find it hard to believe that we're willing to go through all that again - it's amazing what we'll all do to achieve our dreams.

Anyone care to join me in the wait?

similar experience

Hi Bella16,
Sounds like we have had similar experiences - we did our first IVF in May and had a really similar outcome to yours (see profile) - everything looked great but it didn't take. We're hoping to start our 2nd IVF very soon, but I'm waiting for AF to arrive. Frustrating because I'm on CD38 today, past when I thought it would come. I know the meds can throw things out of wack. I 'm going in for a blood test tomorrow so they can see if I ovulated or not. I think you'll be ahead of me, but if I get AF soon, we will kind of be on the same schedule? I was hoping for ER and ET in early to mid August.

How long have you been ttc? Any particular diagnosis?

I'm also on the IVF August 2009 group, so you can feel free to join that one too, as there are lots of ladies in that group that would probably be closer to your timeframe.

Wishing you and your hubby lots of good luck for this one. I know how disappointing it is when you get that call.

Hey Amax

Wow, were our last (and 1st) IVF cycles ever similar - amazing!

CD 38 - Oh my, thats a long one. But I do understand. I usually have about 24 - 27 day cycles, and this last one (which I just got on Saturday) was CD 31, so it lengthened mine a bit too - which just sucks when you're waiting to get going!! I really hope you've ovulated by now and that AF will rear her ugly head... today! That, or maybe you'll be one of those freak women who get pregnant between cycles!? <-- Wierder things have happened I'm sure... I was kinda hoping I was going to be one of them.... hehe

Yes, if you get AF soon, we'll be on very similar schedules... as I imagine my ER with be around the very end of July or beginning of August.

My DH and I have been trying for 2 1/2 years now and basically fall in the 'Unexplained' category <-- I HATE that category.

I'll have to check out the August gruop - I never know which one to join - I'll be starting Suprefact July 10th (I get to skip the BCP's this time - YAY) and approx a week or so later I'll start stimming, so I never know which one to join - July or August!? I checked out a July one, and everyone was quite a bit ahead of me. <-- I joined a group like that for my last cycle - girls were popping up pregnant everywhere - which is GREAT - but not so great when they continue using the same 'thread' to ***** and complain about their pregnancy symptoms - specially when there were a few of us who got negatives. I was a lil scared to join another group cuz of that...

Well, I wish you nothng but buttloads of sticky baby dust and a happy and stress free 2nd cycle!

PS - what have you been diagosed with? How long you been trying?

OOPS - guess I could have read your siggy thing to answer those questions I asked you hehehe OOPS.

OMG - you are soooo lucky to have IF coverage. My husband and I just paid $10,000 - with nothing but heartache to show for it. Sooo frustrating that we don't have coverage here.

And I see you also have been diagnosed with 'Unexplanied' Bummer for us....

Right now I'm in the same boat with not knowing whether I will be July or August for my next cycle. I went in today to update my bloodwork as I've been at this long enough that some of it was out of date. I should have the results Wednesday or Thursday...then the clinic will pass my records on for financial clearance and I should have my schedule by Friday. I know I'll start stimming in July...I just don't know when. As you can see from my siggy, this will be my 3rd fresh cycle (I've also done one FET). The only thing that the docs want to do different this time is to load me up on more meds so that I'll produce more eggs. I'm nervous about OHSS, but I'm willing to try anything to get my BFP.

I'm in the same boat as you too. Had my first IVF cycle in Feb/March. My pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 10 weeks. Going to start stimming for IVF #2 with my next period in July (somewhere around July 17th). Depending on how long I stim for, my retrieval will be in either July or August. This time we are cycling without BCPs and Lupron because I had horrible headaches last time. We have male factor problems and will be doing IVF with ICSI again. Luckily my husband's SA just came back and his morphology went from 0% normal in February to 14% normal in June, so hopefully this will help us conceive our sticky baby this cycle. We're going to do an antagonist protocol with Follistim, Menopur and Ganirelex. Does everyone else know what meds they will be using?

Hey Bella,
I can totally understand why you wouldn't want to stay in a group where people complained about pg symptoms. That would be very hard. I'm curious what meds you used for your 1st IVF as our outcome was so similar...

I go in tomorrow for bloodwork to find out what is going on with my cycle...day 39 tomorrow...ugh.

2Linesn09,
Good name! I'm sorry to hear about your loss. So hard...

As for this cycle's protocol, I know what meds I'll be on, I just don't know when. At this point, it could be September, which would suck...

Anyway, I'll be taking:
CD21 Lupron - 4 units for approx 10 days (they reduced the dosage for this cycle, down from 10 units, due to over-supressing; they want more eggs out of this cycle)
Based on lab & ultrasound, I'll start taking:
Menopur - 225 units
Gonal F - 225 units
Lupron - decreased to 2 units

Menopur is going to be new for this cycle, and an increase in the dosage for overall FSH.

What about everyone else?

Hi Southhampton,
It looks like you've been on a real rollercoaster with all of your cycles, BFPs and losses. I'm so sorry. Does your doctor have any diagnosis for you? I hope that this one sticks for you!

Hey Bella, I hope you don't mind if I respond here too!

We did our first IVF in May. 4 blasts on day 5, 2 transferred, 2 frozen. 2 more blasts frozen on day 6. Chemical pregnancy.

We are doing our second IVF in August at CCRM. We're currently debating whether or not to do CGH.

Hi Amax - Yes it has been quite a ride. The worst part being last november. I still can't believe it has been a year we have been trying again. I am very blessed to have a wonderul little man that keeps my heart whole. My DH is also wonderful source of strength. IF really can do a number on you. I am super anxious this time. So looking forward to having good company for the ride Your meds look like mine use to. This time it is a total change for me so we will see. We have full coverage as well. What a blessing. There is no cap on our insurance. Can you believe it. This will be the last for a long while for us.

Best of luck to us all

Samantha

Southhampton

I remember you from the Feb/March IVF board. I am so sorry that your cycle was unsuccessful. So sad to see a few faces I recognize still around. Hopefully this will be our sticky cycle!

Hi SH,
It is crazy how fast the time has flown since we started ttc. It is hard to believe that one year ago I was still doing my IUIs! And actually, this week is tough for us, as my est. due date was June 25th. I suppose it is a date that I'll always remember.

That is great that you have full coverage - there are only a few states that do! I think that we also have no cap, which is amazing, but does beg the question: when do you stop and move on to adoption or something else? You mentioned that this will be the last one for a long time - did you mean last IVF? If so, fingers crossed for the best possible outcome this go round!!!

Good morning ladies

So nice to have other women to talk to while going through this - misery loves company they say hehehe

I too don't have a schedule yet, I just know that I'll be starting Suprefact on July 10th and I'm pretty sure it's about a week - 10 days later that I'll get a period and then we'll start stimming. I imagine I'll be having my ER at the very end of July!? Time will tell I guess..

Last cycle we used Suprefact, Puregon and Repronex and man, that Repronex suck some serious arse - it hurt the most and it's the one that left my belly with bruises and such <-- Why, why cant we do this like everyone else? hehehe

I'm pretty sure we're sticking with the same meds - only I do believe we're adding Intralipids as well. We've been diagnosed with Unexplained and since our last cycle was 'perfect' (minus the fact that we didn't get pregnant - duh hehe) my RE thinks that maybe I have extra NK cells (or something) Basically, it's where my body would see the embryos as foreign, and attack them. Intralipids would stop that from happening. Though it's an infusion that has to be done over a 2 - 3 hour time frame, may have to be done more than once and costs 'a few hundred dollars'. My DH and I are paying for this all out of pocket - well, we'll get a lil back for the meds, tho to a max of $2000 in a lifetime. Oh joy - that'll go far!!? hehehe Anyways, since we're paying out of pocket, adding 'a few hundred dollars' maybe more than once - kinda suck, buthey, if it works, I'll take up prostitution, I hear it pays well? hehehe KIDDING!!

So, there you have it - that's as much as I know right now.

I will also be going back to acupuncture <-- I just had a chat with my acupuncturist (he specializes in IF) and told him that I'm turning into a huge wimp as the last few sessions of acu last time, were really starting to hurt (the point in my feet and legs). So he's now going to do points in my ears to help relax me and then use the extra sensitive needles <-- Lets see if that makes a difference. It could be the needles were hurting and stressing me out, just cuz I was SICK TO DEATH of needles by then!?

2lines: Soooo sorry for your loss - that's just terrible and .. well, there's not much else to say but sorry

yodasmistress - you stalking me? hehehe Kidding - welcome!!

SouthhamptonS - you are my hero - I dont know how you do it - lets pray with all we have that the 6th time is the charm for you!!

Sounds like we' will all be at least close to the same schedule - that's great!! And lets vow now (please) when we get our BFP's (and we all will) that we dont complain about pregnancy symptoms until everyone has their BFP - that was terrible listening to that last time. That, and when I got a negative and told them, I got such helpful advice such as: go drink wine and eat sushi - all the things you have been depriving yourself of. <-- I'm sorry, but I just paid $10,000 and went through utter hell in order to TRY to get pregnant, and you think eating sushi is going to help me feel better about failing this cycle!? <-- Geesh, some people LOL

everyone!! We'll all eachother on through-out this process and throw everywhere in order for us to all end up

LOL Sorry, was seeing how many of the lil pix I could use in one sentence

Happy Tuesday to all
Hugz

It has been my experience that a pregnant infertile is often times worse than the fertiles. Don't understand it but I've observed it enough to know it's true. Sad, but true.
