IN Vitro Fertilization turned to Invitro Maturation - What do you think?

Hi all - I just got off the call from my doctor. I'm not sure if I will be happy with my result or not. I don't really know what to think. Anyway, I have 7 follicles ranges from 11mm-24mm. I only have 2 that are matured 24mm and 21mm the rest are between 11mm and 16mm. My RE said that because those 2 are really mature we need to trigger tonight. Also, I'm being converted to In Vitro Maturation. This is fairly new study he said that they take all my "immature follicles" and try to get them to mature in a dish. Also, since this is an experimental in their clinic right now. I am given a 50% discount of the IVF. So currently I will have my 2 follicles plus however many follicles will mature from this. I'm very nervous about this - I asked whats the "normal" birth rate for this and he said it's the same as normal IN Vitro.. But my chance of pregnancy went from 60% to 30% this is for now until he sees if my 2 regularly mature follicles fertilized well then he said I have a very good chance if that happens. These other follicles he really wants to do because first... it doesn't hurt to have more eggs to pick from and it gives me the 50% discount. Anyway, my hubby and I talked about and we agreed to do it. So I trigger tonight and I do my ER on Thursday morning. I still have 3 hours to change my mind. What do you guys think? Any input is VERY much appreciated. I posted this in July 2009 for my group.... Thanks all!

Honestly, I think I'd still have to go forward. You have to believe that the RE has your best interest at heart. You've already spent the money for meds and canceling a cycle would put you out, so why not go forward?

It's really a decision you and your DH have to feel comfortable about. Whatever you decide to do, good luck to you.

Sounds promising. I would take an experimental chance for a 50% discount especially if I only had two and it was time to trigger. I say sit back, relax, and enjoy the fact that they are going to try everything possible for you. Good luck!

I don't see how those two statements go together.

The success rates for IVM are lower than for regular IVF.

A steep discount was appropriate.

Good luck.
