Question ectopics with ivf q?

I've had two ectopics and lost both tubes. I'm currently undergoing my first ivf cycle. I know that ectopics are still possible with ivf but I'm not sure of the ins and outs of it.

What i'd like to know is has anyone heard of/had an ectopic with no tubes????

I know the tubes have gone but I'm not sure if they sew up any gaps, so to speak its prob a stupid q but I know I have a partial tube "stump" as my gp called it, and they can occur in many diff places anyway ie tube entrance & ovaries

I will ask at my next apt but curious now.. i,ll be sure to let you all know if I find out anything

Ty!

First, I want to send out my best wishes for this cycle for you!

As for ectopics with IVF, the chances are pretty slim (I've read about 2%, but I could be wrong), and with no tubes I'm guessing if anything, maybe a cornual pregnancy would be more likely than something entirely out of the uterus (but I'd imagine you'd still have only a very small chance of ending up with a cornual pregnancy). Also, since both of your tubes have been removed, they probaby sealed up the ends pretty well, so the chances of the embryo(s) making it out of the uterus at all seems pretty unlikely.

Again, I'm not expert at all, but this is what seems to make sense to me based on what you've said.

Good luck with your cycle!!

Thanks for the reply amber and congratulations! Not long to go now , so
exciting! You'll be holding bub by christmas, what a perfect gift :-)

Ty again for replying today I just had it in my head I was doomed to have ectopics, maybe my blastie will float out of the gap my tubes left. Its my own fault I'm obsessive with researching. I read that it wasn't solely the blame of the tubes, it was partly bad eggs. I panicked.

Good luck for december :-)

Ectopics must be less frequent in patients without tubes, but I don't know of any research that proves it. They are still possible. Ectopics are not caused by egg quality issues.

I'm having an ectopic pregnancy and was told ectopic's could be in the cervix as well. Basically, from what my RE explained, it's when the embryo doesn't implant where it should.

Lisa.

I'm soooo sorry that you were told you're having an ectopic. How is it that your RE was able to detect it after only 7 days from your first beta? I thought you needed to be further along...

My prayers are with you.

Lisa, I'm sorry about your ectopic. How devastating, ecspecially after having such a high first beta.

I thought ectopics were only in the tubes...wow, scary stuff.

My prayers are with you.

They're treating it as ectopic because my beta numbers are staying at a plato. A few days ago, they said chemical, now ectpoic....I don't exactly understand but I'm sure they have their reasons. I had the same beta for 3 days, today it's up by 30 points and I'm no longer on any meds. The ultrasound won't show anything this stage because my numbers are still in the low hundreds, it takes 800-1000 for anything to show. I've been having some sharp cramping off and on, and I choked it up to being over stimulated. I too had a shed of hope, but after being told over and over again that it's not viable, there really isn't anything that can be done. In the end, I have to look out for myself too, and the risk of it expanding scares me. Since I'm well into the 5th week my numbers should be so much higher. They keep telling me a increase of 66% every couple of days.

It is heart breaking. TTC for 9 years, never pregnant (except this one), having IVF then this happening.

Shelly, I agree. It is scary. Ectopics are most common in the tubes, but they can happen in many places outside the uterus, including in the abdominal cavity (although that's very rare) Why can't these little embabies just cooperate and snuggle in the right place??

We had no idea this even existed in IVF. My RE told me it can happen in 2% of IVF patients. As much as 17% in normal conceptions. Guess we were dumb founded thinking they'd stick to where they were placed.

Just to add: I did everything right, all meds like clock work, 2 days bed rest, even though the 24hrs applied to me. Drank grape juice and even consumed a whole pineapple.

Thanks for the hugs ladies. Our time will come.

Not to scare you but if your cramping turns to pain seek medical attention. Somebody here on the forums warned me of that and I'm glad I listened because I ended up having pain and had internal bleeding because my tube ruptured as a result I had emergency surgery. Again, not to scare just don't hesitate if it gets worse.
9 years, I'm so sorry. It just plain sucks. I hope you recover quickly and can try again soon.

Thank you, you didn't scare me. I appreciate your concern. I called my nurse a few days before my 1st beta saying that the cramps and pains were very intense and she told me I must have a case of over stimulation. I just sucked it up, it was the worst I've ever felt. DH was concerned, but I kept telling him it must be my overies. Seemed to happen in the afternoons and about an hour after my PIO shot, so it was hard to tell. Since then, my symptoms have eased up, but still there, on the right. Now I know what I'm going thru, you best bet, DH will take me to the ER in a heartbeat!

If you don't mind me asking, how long were you able to try again after the shot? My RE said he'd like to see a full month flow of normal menses. They can't tell me when my beta will drop down to 0. How long did it take to get down to 0 for you?

Lisa.

I had an ectopic once through a natural pregnancy...my only other bfp so far. I was given the methotrexate shot and their recommendation is that you need to wait 3 months to start again. 3 months is how long the medication can stay in your body, and since its a chemo drug, it must be completely gone in order to start trying to conceive again. In regards to the beta dropping, I think it took a 1-2 weeks, I can't recall for sure. It didn't take me very long and I only needed 1 shot.

If you don't mind me asking, at what stage did your #'s plateau?

Although this is very hard...I know from personal experience, at least they are keeping an eye on you. Often times, ectopics go unnoticed until its too late and then emergency surgery is required. I know this doesn't make this easier...but right now...YOUR health is what is most important.

I'm so sorry for the gals experiencing ectopics here! I want to share my story to offer hope.... I had an ectopic almost 3 years ago. I had to have surgery to remove it, then my Beta wouldn't fall below 0 for about 3 weeks. After that my RE wanted me to wait 3 cycles. I hated the delay in trying again, but after the wait, my DD was conceived my first attempt. Now she it turning 1 this friday and I am pg again. There is pg after ectopic. I you will have the same experience!
