Large percentage of eggs did not fertilize - has anyone else experienced this?

I just got our fertilization report today and I am feeling quite upset - I am trying to stay positive.

We retrieved 23 eggs of those 14 were mature but only 6 fertilized from ICSI. Has anyone else experienced this? We should get about a 75% of the eggs to fertilized but we had less then 1/2. I was not expecting this and I am just praying our 6 little embabies make it to blast. I would love to hear from anyone else this has happened to. Thank you and please keep us in your prayers.

I had something like that happen this cycle, and I was sooooo frustrated and disappointed. The RE's office had me so hyped up that I was gonna have a lot of eggs, and we did PGD, which cost us the same amont ($2k) whether we had 1 embryo or 20. I had a ton of follies (I think the last count was around 29), they retrieved 13 eggs, so I was thinking I'd have at least 7 or 8 embabies to work with. However, only 6 eggs were mature, and only 4 fertilized. I was totally PO'd. I was thinking "All this money for FOUR embryos?!?!?" I really wanted more to work with and have a bigger selection for an FET in the future. But, we transfered one day 5 blast, and there's no way I can complain about the result!

Sending lots of and !

We had about 30% fertilization w/ICSI. I had 17 mature eggs all had ICSI performed on them and only 5 fertilized. Out of the 5 only 4 made it to day 3 and none made it to freeze by day 6. Lucky for us we did a 3 day transfer of 2 grade 1 8 cell embies. If we would have waited until day 5, which our RE had considered the day of our scheduled ET, I'm not sure I would have had anything to transfer.

I've asked this same question soooooo many times trying to get some sort of answer to why our fert rates were so low compared to the 70% we were promised with ICSI. I wish I could tell you that there was a single answer but the opinions I received ranged from poor egg quality to sperm DNA issues. I don't think anyone can answer that question for certain.

In any regards, I wanted to give you some hope that this situation doesn't necessarily mean that you can't have a positive outcome for your cycle as you can see from my siggy.

Best Wishes!

I had zero fertilization with ICSI my first cycle. I had 100% fertilization my second. See my
sig for details. I think a change in protocol and res made the difference.
