Does anyone think this beta is low? (preg mentioned)

Hi ladies! I am 9dp5dt, and I received my first beta today and it is a mere 36. I have been waiting for this news for the last 5 years, and I can't seem to shake the fear I feel.. Does anyone else think that's low for this time? The nurse who talked to me was less than enthusiastic about the number, and wouldn't consider me "pregnant", she just said that the result was positive and that I would have to come back in 2 days and "hopefully" it would have doubled by that time. WTF? She has totally blown the wind out of my sails and now I'm wondering if she is right not to get too excited.. Any advice/words of wisdom/past experience from anyone? Thanks so much in advance! Luv and hugs to all!

First of all, congratulations. Despite what the nurse said, you are pregnant (Assuming you were not using hCG for luteal support. A few clinics do that.)

However, the number is indeed low. I've seen them lower than that make it to live birth, but the chances would be better if you were looking at something like a 150 or 200 right now. Your nurse is correct to be reserved with the enthusiasm at this point.

I did my beta 10dp5dt and my beta was 32 and my doc said that it was low because we tested early. I was supposed to go back on Wednesday but I'm out of town, so won't be able to go till Friday.

Good luck!

Sweetheart - first a big fat CONGRATS on your positive beta...

Having been where you are - twice - I will tell u this....its not the 1st number that is most important - its your next beta number that will really tell the tale.

I have seen so many women on this board with lower beta's than yours and they have gone on to delivery beautiful healthy babies.

At my 1st IVF, my beta came in at 22. My RE told me to be cautiously optimistic and I think that is the best advice for you as well.

You have overcome so much and you have so much to be proud of yourself for. Just think good positive thoughts and picture your little baby hanging on.

Am here if u need to chat!

Hi Carrie

My first beta was 38.6 and so far everything has turned out great. I am currently 6w4d and we were able to see the heartbeat yesterday. Please try and stay positive.
Also enjoy being pregnant!

I think we are all in a similar situation. I've moved on from HPT hell to beta hell now. I did not see a + hpt pop up until 10dp5dt which was this past Sun night. I don't think my level had even reached in the 20s 14dpo. I had my 1st beta 10/23 (8dp5dt, turned out to be a VERY LOW 9.6) but the nurse didn't get back to me that day (which happens if no hcg registers or level is really low). Today morning was my 2nd beta (12dp5dt) and my beta went up to 108. So it has gone up, but it's still considered low for 17dpo. I have to go back this Fri to get my 3rd beta since they are still concerned. I'm so scared of things not working out. We went through the DS route this time b/c hubby's translocation affected our 1st IVF embryo which led to m/c hoping that we'd avoid another m/c. I don't know how I'll handle any more to come.

kristyn, wannabeamomma-thank you for encouraging stories.

dink2D, goldenhicks - let's try to get through this together. wishing all of us luck and hoping for miracle! Please keep us posted. I pray that both your betas jump!

First, Congratulations!!

My first beta at 8dp 5dt was 13.5 and at 10dp5dt it was about 36. I am now 23 weeks! Don't focus on the numbers so much. You just want it to rise appropriately.
Good luck!!

Wow you guys.. You have no idea how much better you all made me feel.. I want this baby so badly, that I am just terrified that I have made it this far, and it may not happen. But, I can't think that way, right? My little fighter stuck and I have to be grateful and pray that he/she continues to grow and tomorrow's beta will be much better! I took another test this morning and the line is just about as dark as the test line. So, it was darker than yesterday's test, so that gave me a renewed optomism, and you ladies did as well.. Thank you all so much, and you are all special to me.. Luv and hugs to all!

And Wannabe, I luv ya girl.. I certainly will PM you soon.. OK? You are so sweet.. Take care all!

Dante, so sorry you are going through the same thing.. Will the worry ever end? And sure, I would love for us to try and get through this together.. I hope yours turns out too!

Congrats to all of you that have seen the heartbeats! My goodness, that must have been an amazing experience.. One I hope to share with all of you in a few weeks time!

Hey there... My first beta 14dp5dt came in at 66... I was sooooo devistated, I knew this was low seeing as my 1st beta with my son was 367... I kinda prepared myself and refused to be excited..

Second beta 3 days later was only 185.... 3rd beta a week later was 2137...

I kept waiting for the dark day of bad news but it never came... My RE thinks I just had a late implanter...

It isnt the numbers, but what the numbers do... Sit back, put your feet up and enjoy being pregnant....

Good luck, keep us posted...

jaxmum, creid- Thank you so much for your successful stories. It means so much to us. I've been trying to think positive and hope that we'll be able to tell the same story. I've come to realize that I should be thankful to be put in a position to have hope. I hope our little beans will put up a good fight.

goldenhicks- when I tested positive the first time 15po, it was very faint. Through the next two days, they became progressively darker and darker. So it was reassuring for me as well. And it turned out to be at least good news for the time being b/c my hcg levels rose from #1 to #2 beta. I tested my last first response rapid stick (thank goodness for Costco, I got the bulk pack) and it showed up at the same time and darkness as the control line today. Yesterday was a dark line too, but a bit less than the control. So I'm hoping things are at least moving in the right direction. I might stop testing after today, b/c I don't think it'll tell me any new info at this point.

I've been praying for us. Let's stay positive for now!

Hi Dante! I have been praying for us too.. I am really hoping that everything turns out good! Can I just tell you that today is DRAGGING on and on?? This is insane! Tomorrow is going to be even worse.. I won't find out until after 2:00 tomorrow afternoon.. That will kill me! I see your next beta is on the 30th? I am happy to hear that your tests are getting darker! I am praying that mine continue as well.. This morning's test was very dark and showed up immediately. It was almost as dark as the control line. I hope to see similar or darker tomorrow. I am praying for us too girl! and and for the two of us!! Take care!

Goldenhicks: Please do not be swayed by your low beta number. You probably just implanted a few days later than "the regularlly scheduled time." Please look at my sig...your beta will go up--trust me. It is not the nubmer itself but he rate of rise. My nusre loves to tell the story of a beta of 8 on 9dpt and that patient went on to have twins!!! Good luck. I am not on this thread but please send me a pm with the good news when you get it!!

I follow the board all the time but rarely post. I just wanted you ladies to know that 12dp3dt my beta was only 4.3, so technically negative but I had to return to make sure it fell to 0. At 14dp3dt my beta was 17. My RE told me the pregnancy likely wasn't viable, but almost 33 weeks later I'm set to deliver a healthy baby boy in a few weeks. Hang in there!!
