Hi there, GL with your cycle. A little off the IVF topic.... I am intrigued by your siggie seeing that you had a surprise BFP with your son given your IF symptoms. Aside from me being 5 years older than you, your infertility status seems almost identical to me. I am also anovulatory and don't have periods. I have had only 2 or 3 in my entire life that I can remember that weren't drug induced either by bcp or provera. I also have PCOS ovaries (but not insulin resistance) I always thought it would be impossible to conceive on my own. How did you find out you were pg?? Just curious what that must have been like for you

Talking

It's official.!! I will be starting IVF in January. Had my consult yesterday which included and u/s and uterine sounding. Plan is to start BCP CD 3 which should be right around New Years Day. I thinki I will be on BCP's about 3 wks but i can't remember for sure. I will then start stims with Follistim 200 IU and Menopur 75 IU and add in ganirelix and use ovidrel for trigger. Doc said I woll use endometrin for progesterone suppost. Anybody know what the difference is between endometrin and prometrium?? I have a friend that went through an injectible IUI cycle that has a whole sealed bottle of prometrium that she said I could have but if endometrin is better I would kjust stick with that.

I am sure I will have tons of questions as I go through this. Our education class is Nov 20 so hopefully I will have a better idea about scheduling.

Good luck to all you ladies
Kristen

I will also be joining you in January. This will be my first IVF cycle. We are really excited. I have tubal factor infertility and he is OK. We are both almost 38, so we'll see. Good luck to all. So nice to see many others going thru this at the same time!!

More and more people are joining! How exciting! Well, AF came today, so my 4th IUI is officially a bust. Which means I am scheduled now for a Lap on Nov. 10 (a week from today! yikes) I did this last year, but I'm still really nervous for it again. But I do have an endometrioma cyst which needs to be removed and obviously some cleaning up of the endo. Hopefully this will clear everything out and will help the process.

I need to still schedule my initial consult with the IVF clinic, which I hope to do sometime this month. Then depending on what they say... I'm hoping to start my cycle in January still.

I hope you all keep us updated on the lab tests and results, because I would love to learn from everyone since this sounds like many of our first time's with IVF. What a journey it will be... but an exciting one.

to be in 2010!!

Can I join too? I have had 6 failed IUI''s, that's enough for me. I am just waiting on my ivf consult, but we are hoping to start in the new year. We are going to take a break until then. DH is perfect. I had mild endo removed in July and have high prolactin, but I am on meds to bring it back to normal We have been TTC for 2 years now.

Good luck to everyone!

tippy good luck on your upcoming lap...sorry about your failed cycle and good luck on the future cycle...i am scheduled for my first lap and hysteroscopy the day after yours...if i may ask how was your recovery from the one you had before...i have never had surgery or been under anesthesia and am nervous as heck...they are taking out my left tube and rechecking the right side and my uterus for the jan ivf cycle since i will be there and under...were you in lots of pain after or was it a relatively quick recovery and did you have to take pain medicine afterwards...my dr wrote me out a script...looks like just tylenol lol if that is the case i will just take otc...not pay a ton for a script...unless maybe it is with codeine or something...don't know...i don't normally take anything other than tylenol otc or ibuprofen...anyhow good luck to you

hey dylansmom - well, last time was my first surgery as well and I had never been under anesthesia either. here's a blog post I wrote after the surgery last year to give you an idea

Austin Family: Surgery Update

It wasn't terrible I guess, but I'm a wuss and have a low pain tolerance. I ended up taking the day off work for the surgery and 2 more days after that. I'd say the crappy part was the air bubbles because I probably felt that for a couple weeks after. Not really painful, but uncomfortable. As far as medicine goes, I believe I was prescribed 800mg of Ibuprofen, which of course you can just take over the counter. I think I also got something a little stronger like Vicodin (however, I get sick on that stuff, so I didn't end up taking any).

I've never had a hysteroscopy, so depending on that, you may be out a little longer, not sure. I hope everything goes extremely well for you though. I'm sure i'll be on here after the surgery to give an update, so let us know how yours goes as well!! Also, good luck with the IVF cycle coming up!

tippy thanks for your response...i read the pamphlet they gave me and seen where it said about shoulder pain but wasn't sure why...now i see and that does not sound like fun...i have a weak stomach so the nausea and vomiting doesn't sound like fun especially with stitches in your stomach...ugh...lol but thank you was still nice to actually read someones experience as opposed to hearing about it from my male re who really has no idea how it feels..nice as he is..hopefully you do not have to deal with vomiting this time around...do your pre op instructions tell you to wash with antibacterial soap the morning of the surgery...i was reading the "book" they gave me and never would have thought of that one...again good luck to you...one other thing i would think your re would be a little more sympathetic with the number of days you could be away from work...mine said typically 24-48 hours and filled out my medical paperwork for 48 hrs off work since i have a pretty physical job...our insurance company(disability)will actually pay my wages for those two days...but i wouldn't feel bad for wanting to take more time...my re said everyone is different and some feel better faster and others not so much...ok sorry for the book good luck to you!!!!

Hi there!

I too wanted to share my lapro experience for you. I had a lapro in 2006 due to massive adhesions and a cyst. I also have had 2 leep procedures. The general anethesia scared me the most going into it. And frankly I was under way longer than the doctor expected due to how much scar tissue they found. I did not find the gas pain that bad maybe because I had an infection after and had to go back to get put on two antibiotics. If you are prone to infections talk to your doctor about starting a course of therapy right after the procedure. I know for IVF they definitely want me on meds after the ER and ET because of my history.
Dylansmommy, I also have a hydrosalpinx now since the lapro and my doctors are all talking about doing IVF with the hydro because it by-passes the tubes. They can do an ultrasound before ER to see if there is fluid leaking to decide if they are going to aspirate the hydro at the time of ER. For me, because of my history of adhesions they don't want to do another lapro unless they have to for sure. I know your situation is different although my doc said the jury is out on whether the hydro is embryo toxic or not depending on if its leaking back into the uterus.
The lapro pain was not too bad just sore for a few days besides the fever. After my first leep procedure I developed peritonitis and that was by far ten times harder than anything I went through with the lapro. So just be sure to monitor your temperature after the surgery to make sure you don't develop an infection.

Sorry for the long response I just wanted to let you know my experience. Hope that helps and you will do fine!

Thanks for sharing! That's so awesome. I know what you mean about hating those people that say "Oh, it could happen, just don't think about it". It's so annoying when people make such ignorant comments without understanding infertility. My father just said that after my last failed IVF, "Well you hear all the time how people get pregnant on their own after trying with doctors or adopting......" yeah, ok dad. Those people ovulate..... geesh!

Gina - no problem... I kind of figured that wouldn't be my month! but it's ok... because now I can try IVF and the chances are so much better! Thank you for the good wishes though!

Dylansmommy - Yeah, it's different for everyone, so who knows, you could be back in the next day! but good thing your insurance will cover you for the days that you are out. That's nice. My work gives me 48 hours of sick time per year, but with all of the IUI procedures I've done, I've run out and will only be paid 1 of the days I'm gone. It's better than nothing!

As far as the washing with antibacterial soap, I've never heard of that. I actually haven't received my packet yet. Should be in my mail box today and I'll double check. I didn't have to the first time though. Also, make sure you take off all of your jewelry, nail polish, piercing etc. Just so you can leave them at home and not worry about valuables at the hospital. (that's probably in your packet)

Good luck though... everything will work out great!
