Hi Ladies! It looks like I'm going to be joining you on this January journey but more like the end of January. I'm so excited but nervous at the same time. I'm hoping we all get BFPs in the new year

Shana..I was bawling after reading your story. What a beautiful story about your DH building a crib then a casket and now making caskets for charity. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I will be praying for you this next cycle. Several of my friends that had done IVF previous to my positive IVF cycle told me also to demand an u/s at each OB visit even if they say its not necessary.

Looking forward to cycling with everyone in January

Hey Tippy - my initial consult was fine, I was there about 1 hour and 40 minutes. First we went over a bunch of paperwork, basically they inform you about the different parts of the procedure and all the risks. My DH and I have to initial each page, it took awhile. Then they showed us the different drugs I would be on and how to mix them and such. Then we started planning the cycle and estimating when everything would be happening. I asked a lot of questions. At the end both DH and I did blood work. They also scheduled DH for another sperm analysis.

I learned a lot, a lot I didn't know about all the different parts of the procedure. It was a bit overwhelming, but I'm still excited.

My heart goes out to all of the people on here who have lost children. My miscarriage was hard so I can only begin to imagine your pain. I commend you on how strong you have been.

I feel very lucky to be going through this journey with all of you. Good luck with all your consults and such!

Racheldee - thanks for the info, I really appreciate it. I'm excited for my appointment on Monday, curious what my schedule will be like.

Skyhope - how did your inital consult go?? Please tell us all about it!!!! hope it went great!!

Kristen - also curious how your education class went. was it to learn how to do injectibles? if I've already done injectibles on earlier IUI cycles is it different from IVF that I would need to take a class do you think?? just curious how different it can be.

Any one have any idea how often (on average) you are giving yourself shots for IVF? I know it can vary greatly from person to person, but I know with IUI, on average it was about 6-10 shots before the IUI, once a day. Is IVF much different? I've read a few posts that make it seem I may be doing injections multiple times per day... yikes!

When I did my first IVF I was doing 3 shots a day. My 2nd attempt (which was cancelled) I did 1 shot a day. It depends on your dose of meds and if the Dr has you on a flare protocol, in which you would be also injecting Lupron every morning to suppress ovulation. Hope that helps. Do you have a protocol yet?

tippy it looks like you've done follistim cycles in the past...chances are you will have a similiar stim cycle for ivf...my re has me on lupron for iui cycles as well i don't know if it's the same for you...your follistim will probably be a higher dose than for iui...so two shots a day same thing i will be doing next week...probably for the same amount of time as well...some ladies that take higher doses or use different stims may have more shots per day...also you will need progesterone supplement with ivf and your re will either use pio or suppositories...i've heard horror stories with the pio shots and have used the suppositories and they are not the greatest either lol...but better than another shot...

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm not sure if I should be on the January board of December board. But I will be starting my first IVF cycle very soon. I'm just in the beginning stages with everything. So far the only thing I've had done is my bloodwork and received my IVF "packet" with all the forms to sign and list of meds I will be taking. My DH had is sperm analysis and bloodwork done today, so hopefully that all turns out OK.
I actually started day one of my cycle today and my RE told me when this happens to call to make an appointment for my hydrosonogram, mock transfer, and pap smear. So I guess I will do that tomorrow. I also have to have my progesterone drawn on CD 20. If it's >3, I think I can start Lupron??(can't remember). I'm really nervous about this whole process. I don't know anyone else (personally) who is going through this. I just hope it works.

Cool

Hi Ladies,
Hope you are all doing well. To those of you going through this journey for the first time, I know how excited you must be. Don't worry too much about the injections. You get used to it. The injections for the stims are not too bad. The needle is pretty small. The PIO (Progesterone In Oil) injections are probably the worst ones. They sting a little and your DH or someone else generally has to give them since they are intramuscular shots. The RE usually suggests the buttocks for the injections. You can take the shots in the arm or the thigh, but that is usually more uncomfortable. If you are really thin there is a little more risk of hitting the sciatic nerve, which hurts for a couple days if you do that. My friend just finished her IVF recently and her DH hit her nerve. She said it was pretty uncomfortable for a couple days. If you are on the thin side make sure your DH has a good understanding of where to give the shot. There are a few videos the drug companies supply that are good teaching tools. My DH had never dealt with needles or anything before the IVF and he did a great job with all the shots. I did get a little sore toward the end of the injections because eventually you start getting them in the same place, but overall it was all worth it.

ReRe900 - Do you have to wait for the holiday Lab closure to start your cycle? If so you will be right in line with the rest of us.

Sorry to those of you who had failed IUI's. I know how disappointing that is. Well, we are all in this together. It's good to have all of you ladies here for support.
Wishing everyone a great weekend.

rere welcome and good luck to you!

hope the rest of you ladies are doing well...

i start my lupron tonight...can't say we're not trying lol...

my re told me they only close on the major holidays so that is a relief if this last shot iui does not work we can jump right into the ivf so we could have et mid january if all else goes well...and even though i am slated to be laid off my job in january our contract if it gets signed is good for people getting laid off and we have a small buyout which would really help with school and bills and ivf...one can only hope for the best!...hugs ladies enjoy your weekend

Well, we had to reschedule our education class that was supposed to happen yesterday. My hubby got sick and we were concerned because we didn't want to take the chance of getting anyone at the clinic sick. I really didn't want to go alone so we rescheduled it for Dec 4th. i am a little bummed that we didn't get to do it yesterday but there is a bright side. By Dec 4th AF will have arrived and I will have a little better idea of when I will start BCP's so maybe it's a blessing in disguise.

Good luck to everyone as we prep for our cycles.

Kristen

smchopes/dylansmommy, Thanks! Glad to be here with all of you. @smchopes, you were talking about the progesterone injections and being thin, well that's me all the way. I'm 5'3 & ~105lbs. I was thinking about having a nurse come and do those injections for me (that's what one of my co-workers did). I'm just not sure my husband will do in correctly, and I'm scared he will hit my bone, lol! The other shots, I'm a little nervous about, but I think I'll be OK. I don't know about the holiday closings for my clinic. I guess I'll find out on Monday. Good luck to everyone else as well
