The BFP board here is so heavily weighted towards people getting their BFPs on the first try. It's really great news, but I need ALL the information as I prepare to move forward. Hope you gals on these boards won't mind answering a few questions:

1) Have you ever had a successful pregnancy resulting in a birth from IVF?
2) In which # IVF cycle did you achieve #1?
3) What # IVF are you going through right now? If you had a previous birth, please use this as a NEW starting point and list your # attempt for baby #2, 3, or whatever.
4) What is your diagnosis and age?
5) Did you do any medicated cycles or IUIs before IVF. How many? Any successful?
6) If YOU HAVE HAD ANY FAILED ATTEMPTS, WHAT WAS THE REASON? I.E. DID THEY DISCOVER A NEW ISSUE?

5) Did you do any medicated cycles or IUIs before IVF. How many? Any successful? 4 clomid cycles. 2 failed 2 miscarries
6) If YOU HAVE HAD ANY FAILED ATTEMPTS, WHAT WAS THE REASON? I.E. DID THEY DISCOVER A NEW ISSUE? I have not had any failed IVF or Fet. the clomid failed because of my PCOS

4) What is your diagnosis and age? 38, Jan 09 severe pelvic adhesive disease (no functional tubes), Oct 09 PCOS
5) Did you do any medicated cycles or IUIs before IVF. How many? Any successful? No. Statistically they aren't as effective, went straight to ivf w/ icsi. Thought we'd save time (I'm old) and $$ in the long run.
6) If YOU HAVE HAD ANY FAILED ATTEMPTS, WHAT WAS THE REASON? I.E. DID THEY DISCOVER A NEW ISSUE? Several. 1)RE chose wrong protocol in choosing MDL protocol. I stimmed in only 5 days, lining was thin, and didn't support implant. (We think... b/c of my age, the eggs could've been genetically bad too) Tested lining for integrin, and the binding protein is there. You can see the stats below on signature. 2)Borderline PCOS not diagnosed during 1st cycle. Now on metformin.

4) What is your diagnosis and age? 35, amenorrhea and anovulation due to PCOS, poor egg/embryo quality
5) Did you do any medicated cycles or IUIs before IVF. Yes How many? 4 clomid, 6 IUI w/Follistim Any successful? NO
6) If YOU HAVE HAD ANY FAILED ATTEMPTS, WHAT WAS THE REASON? I.E. DID THEY DISCOVER A NEW ISSUE? Have had 3 IVF BFN's since Feb, issue is always poor embryo quality. Slow cell development with 20-25% fragmentation, all arrest before day5 so there are never any left to freeze. We have added dexamethasone to try to improve quality but we didn't see much difference and still had BFN. I am now on Royal Jelly and Bee Pollen and hoping that will help next IVF attempt in January. GL to you!

4) What is your diagnosis and age? 38 - advanced maternal age, mild male factor
5) Did you do any medicated cycles or IUIs before IVF. How many? Any successful? 1 unmedicated IUI, 3 with clomid and 1 with Menopur - all negative.
6) If YOU HAVE HAD ANY FAILED ATTEMPTS, WHAT WAS THE REASON? I.E. DID THEY DISCOVER A NEW ISSUE? I did Microdose lupron for the first IVF - I got a good number of eggs but the embryo quality was not good. They stopped growing or slowed way down after day 3. By day 5 we transferred 2 not so good quality embryos and froze 2 embryos that were even less quality. We did estrogen priming for the second IVF and a 3 day transfer instead. We got less egss, but the embryo quality was much better. We transferred 3 top quality 8 cells on day 3, and had 2 more go on to make pretty good quality blasts on day 5, which we froze. We did not get a new diagnosis, but after the first IVF we figured out what protocol not to use.

5) Did you do any medicated cycles or IUIs before IVF. How many? Any successful? None~MF did not allow for that
6) If YOU HAVE HAD ANY FAILED ATTEMPTS, WHAT WAS THE REASON? I.E. DID THEY DISCOVER A NEW ISSUE? I was on lupron and follistim for first cycle, only two eggs both on Right side, i am now on microdose lupron and follistim, 2 times a day and have a half dozen follies on each side

5) Did you do any medicated cycles or IUIs before IVF. How many? Any successful? No--RE said it was a waste of time and money.
6) If YOU HAVE HAD ANY FAILED ATTEMPTS, WHAT WAS THE REASON? I.E. DID THEY DISCOVER A NEW ISSUE? #1--empty follicle syndrome, #2--canceled halfway through stims because of poor response, #3--canceled after baseline u/s due to ovulation through suppression. I am a poor responder and have diminished reserve.

Wow! Thanks for all the answers! Having all these unsuccessful IUIs makes it tough to go onto the IVF process. I was so hopeful for the first couple of IUIs and they didn't work!!! I know the stats are higher for IVF.

First IVF attempt for baby #2

4) What is your diagnosis and age?
PCOS, 29

5) Did you do any medicated cycles or IUIs before IVF. How many? Any successful?
~5 clomid cycles, 1 IUI, second IUI was converted to IVF due to over response. Prior to this IVF we did a FET that was not successful.

6) If YOU HAVE HAD ANY FAILED ATTEMPTS, WHAT WAS THE REASON? I.E. DID THEY DISCOVER A NEW ISSUE?
No failed IVF attempts (knock on wood...) The FET did not work because the embryos were not very high quality.
