Hope with one embryo transfer?

My husband and I did round two of IVF and decided to only transfer one - 5 day blastocyst. My doctor came in that morning wanting to transfer 4. We declined, due to our first pregnancy that ended in an explained abruption that caused my sweet angels to be stillborn at 5 1/2 months. So, when my doctor suggested we just transfer 2, we again declined because we are so scared to go through what we went through last year. We felt the risk outweighed our decision for one transfer.

So, I was hoping I could hear any inspirational stories or hope with only transferring one. We are in the 2ww and my mind is playing tricks on me and I feel we should have transfered two.

Arriestar-- With our 2nd IVF (FET) we also elected to put back just one. With our first IVF we put in two perfect blasts and got pregnant with twins. We lost one at 12 weeks and I still went on to have a very difficult pregnancy carrying one baby. I just feel like I know my body, and it is not designed to carry twins. If we had not lost the other baby my OB feels like we never would have made it to term with twins because of issues with fibroids which caused a lot of problems in the 2nd half of the pregnancy.

I am so sorry about your loss of your twin boys that must have been horrific. It sounds like you know your body and 1 at a time is the right thing for you, mentally and physically.

It is tough a call and I also 2nd guessed my decision throughout the the 2WW. At our FET they wanted us to put back two because on Day 5 they were not quite at blast stage. After 15 minutes of hand wringing we stuck with our original plan and had them put back the best one. We are now 14 weeks pregnant with one, so far, healthy looking baby.

Obviously you can get pregnant, so your chances of success with 1 blast is the same as putting in multiple blasts. I can't beleive your RE wanted to put back 4, especially since you have already gotten pregnant with Twins. I find that odd. With our first IVF we were counseled to only put back one and we (naively) thought twins would be terrific.

Many women on this board go on to have healthy twin pregnancies, I just don't feel like I would be one of them.

I am sending lots of baby dust your way! Good luck.

Yes! Even just one gives you a chance. Don't second guess your decision. In our case we had only one and it was no where near blast stage - - not even close!!! Just had an NT scan on Thursday. Everything looks beautiful!

Best wishes to you. Try to relax during the rest of your wait and don't give up hope!!!

We did one beautiful 5 day blast and I am now almost 21 weeks pregnant with a fiesty boy! We chose to do just 1 because of the complications that can arrise from multiples. Your choice was made out of logic and hope and I have my fingers crossed that u'll get a happy and healthy nine months!

Heart Thanks!

KTS, Nightowl, Amy, Kay -
Thanks for your words of encouragement and congratulations on your !!! I'm very happy for you gals.

Pier - Congrats to you as well. I know, it surprised us when my Dr. wanted to put in 4!!!! He lumped me in the age "39 category" and stated it's different since I'm a year older. Anyway, you said it perfectly when (and I quote) "it was like hand wringing to decide one or two...." that was exactly like my husband and I.
Thanks again for responding.

Yes, it can absolutely work! I am 5-weeks pregnant from a 3-day transfer of an 8-cell embryo. Unfortunately, my betas are so high that I fear the one embryo split into two.
SET is definitely the way to go!
