OHSS, Heating Pad during 2ww...Advice needed!

So yesterday was our transfer, and shortly after I had EXTREME cramps. I am suffering from OHSS, and literally felt like I was being stabbed from my hips to my neck. It was awful, worse than labor with my daughter was.

My husband called the hospital who put him through to some doctor on call. He told her I had just had my transfer, and asked her if I could take more Tylenol, she said yes - and if I could use a heating pad for the cramps. She said that she didn't know that it would help, but if it brought me comfort, to use it.

I used it a little on my lower belly, but mostly high up by my ribs/chest where there was a ton of pain, for about 20 minutes. It did help, but now I am reading that using a heating pad during pregnancy can cause so many problems. Have I just blown it? I am so scared... any input/advice???

Where did you read that? I've read that anything that increases your core body temp is bad, but I doubt a 20 minute heating pad session would do that. I bet you're ok. Did you call your RE?

I also have OHSS and feel like I'm on my deathbed, so I feel for you! I started an OHSS support thread, I will bump it in case you're interested in comisserating with me.

They recommended for 10-15 minutes, i just keep it on the lowest setting

I had OHSS and cramps during my 2ww and used a heating pad on my pelvic/lower abdominal area, maybe 20-30 minutes at a time, and everything was fine. A short stint with a heating pad isn't going to raise your body temperature that much. Plus, you used the heat mostly on your upper abdomen. Try not to stress it! (I know, easier said than done!)

Unhappy Ouch!

I am a single 35 year old with 3rd stage endometriosis. I haven't met the "right one" and decided to have a baby on my own. I did 5 IUIs and no luck. I live in Canada and most recently, the province I live in has begun to cover IVF treatments. I was 739th on the list when I went in for a regular u/s (was continuing IUI till my IVF turn) when the doc said I had too many follicles and was being switched to IVF. I went from 739th to 2nd in 1 day. Had my retrieval on 8/6 and am in absolute agony today but 17 follicles and 13 embryos. NO drugs are working for the pain and the ER told me it's a 12 hour wait but instead I can go to my clinic tomorrow morning. Am not happy with my clinic because they were supposed to call me today but they forgot and I missed the on call Doc .

Have my transfer tomorrow IF no ohss. Otherwise will have to wait.

Did any of you have pain after retrieval that turned out to be just cramps? I'm using a heating pad and anaprox evry 6 hours.

tryingforarainbow-I had mild OHSS and it was terrible so I am so sorry that you are feeling poorly. This is what helped me:
If you have a trader joes or any GNC store get powdered electrolights (spelling) that you mix in water. Drink a lot of water with this stuff in it. It does make you feel more bloated but it will also help you process the fluid too. Also, fresh coconut water is good. Both of these things helped me a lot.

I hope that you start feeling better soon!
