Hello! Who all is starting an IVF cycle in Jan? This is my first IVF attempt and I'm extremely hopeful. I have a fibroid and blocked tubes...I really thought I had endo but it didn't show on Lap so I guess im clear on that. Today I started accupuncture and a few herbs. We are military and we are doing our IVF at Womack Army Medical Center. I just want to communicate with other women who will be going through this at the same time...

Same to you!! Good Luck! Where are you located? One day I'm excited, the next im totally stressed. You have tubal issues? Why were there no eggs? I'm totally new to this whole thing. I just had all my workups done...

Hi. We are also planning IVF in Jan/Feb. We meet with our RE next week Friday to discuss the cycle. I think he will have me start BCP's in Dec and get a saline u/s to check for any uterine abnormalities (standard pre-ivf practice at our clinic). I am in Chicago.

Hi ladies. We looking to do our 3rd round in feb 2012 so wild love to join your group. Even though I'm so nervous for another failure I am also so excited for the opportunity to grow our little family. I seem to have a problem producing mature eggs. There's no obvious explanation for this which is really frustrating but I am getting as healthy as I can to see if that will help. I am overweight -BMI of 32 and my RE has suggested I try get under 30 before trying again. So far I have lost 15 pounds in 7 weeks and I'll need to lose another 15 before I start.

Anybody else doing anything special to improve their chances?

I am planning round 2 in Feb!! I am trying to be optimistic for my second (and last...we pay out of pocket) try. I recently lost my baby after 8w3d. The karyotype came back normal male, I had very high HCG levels, and we saw the HB at our 7 week ultrasound. My RE is now testing for clotting factors before cycle #2.
Abbydabby- I see you have had several losses, have you ever been tested for MTHFR, Factor V, APA? It can cause first trimester miscarriages.
Poppet- Did your RE add menopur to the end of your cycle? I was on 450IU (225, am & pm) of Follistim to start with, but after 7 days my RE lowered my Follistim to 225 in the am and 175 in the pm with 75 of Menopur. The Menopur has is half FSH, like Follistim, but also half LH. From what I understand, you need the added LH to start maturing the eggs.

luv4rachela - so sorry about your loss. i lost my last at 8.5wks w/o any warning whatsoever (normal baby girl ). it is so hard to understand. hugs. i've been tested for everything under the sun...and i am homozygous MTHFR AC, so i was on lovenox shots for my ivf/fet cycles and during my pregnancy with my son. i assume i'll be put on it again this time around. we meet with the RE on friday, and i actually go in for some preliminary testing tomorrow (baseline u/s and labs) before the ivf consultation.

poppet - have you always lived in south africa? i'd love to go there someday. we were in ethiopia in 2010 when we brought our daughter home...loved it there and plan to go back when she's older. anyway, sorry to read you have had egg quality issues. i had similar issues with my 1st ivf...everything looked normal, but during the ICSI process after ER, none of the eggs that fertilized survived longer than a day - there were 18 eggs too - all of them had to be discarded. it was a big kick in the stomach for me...but ivf #2 did a bit better (my RE added low dose HCG to my daily stimming - so it was follistim, lupron and hcg daily until trigger). great job losing the weight. i don't know what i will change other than diet during my cycle (more water, no caffeine, less sodium).

janel83 - i did acupuncture during my last couple ivf's and fet...i loved it, but can't afford it this time around.

mrsridge - glad you made a switch to a new RE that you like - that makes a huge difference, imo. i love my RE and actually saw 2 other RE's before finding him.

Hi all, I will be joining you and doing my first and only (pay out of pocket) ivf cycle in Jan. I have been slowly getting everything done for the workup. I had my water u/s and labs done. Only thing left is for my dh to do his labs and get my plan of care. I see others have had m/c's as well. Uggh sooo frustrating I would have rather had a negative than that. A little background on me... I am in the unexplained category still despite extensive lab work. We had success with a donor embryo and with my family's help decided to try ivf once for closure. I have no problem getting preggo just can't stay that way. So we will see. I'm hopeful. They said they had one other patient like me and they got preggo with triplets because one split on their first try. The only thing that would shock me would be to have a negative beta. I research and obsess over everything. As of late I have been over analyzing my labs and trying to predict my med dosing and response. So far amh is 2.33, afc is 22, and fsh is 8 so there has been a lot of numbers to stress over.

Does anyone know their protocol yet? And anyone taking supplements for egg quality?

I spoke to my RE today, and he says we will add heparin next and baby asprin next time (although I was already on BA this last cycle). I can choose the week of 2/6 or 2/27. I may go for 2/27, even though it will be hard to wait 3 extra weeks!!! My birthday is leap-year, the 29th, and it is coming this year. Perhaps it would be good luck to do RE or ET on or around my Bday. I sound so silly, oh well, what else do I have!?

Hi ladies,
Looking to join your group for some support during our second round of ivf. We are paying out of pocket for a second time making our grand total spent around $28,000. Woah!!!! I wish we had insurance coverage. Hoping to participate in a study to alleviate the cost of meds and maybe get the PGS completed for free if i end up in the right group. Still waiting for our calendar so i can post the various dates for everything. So glad for this forum, keeps me from going crazy. Just found out last Friday after our HSG test that now both of my tubes are blocked-bummer!! Hoping for a BFP this time around. Good luck to us all this time.

Hi Girls, I'm also starting my 2nd IVF hopefully in February, I have an appointment with my RE next wednesday as my last cycle last month was a negative. I have a low egg reserve for my age so have read up about Royal Jelly that is mean't to improve egg quality and quantity. So really trying to get the body to it's optimum health...I also do acupuncture which I really love and she has a wonderful calm nature. I also joined this fertility forum last month as I was in the middle of my 2WW and reading into everything so it's great to find threads that relate to us and we can help one another through this process.

Lots of for January/February.

Well, it looks like we may be moving forward with a December IVF ER/ET, rather than Jan/Feb. I went in for a baseline today and my RE feels we are in a good position to start BCP's now for 3 weeks, then start the cycle after that.

I don't know how I feel about it, as I wasn't really prepared to do all this during the crazy holiday season. I need to talk to my DH about it and see what he thinks.

I am in Indiana, I have no idea why there were no eggs and our RE didnt seem to know either, he did not really answer our questions, thats one of the reasons we found a new RE. The new RE we picked a few of our friends have used and all had great things to say about him, so we are hoping this will be a much better experience.

I have a friend that went from 4 to 19 eggs with 8 months of these supplements and a new protocol (EPP). Here's the list...I'm taking all of it, except sometimes I skip the Melatonin (which actually causes me to wake up through the night ??) If you take the Melatonin, it's important to take it at bed time with the Inositol. There are several studies that show it really helps to increase the number of eggs that fertilize.

DHEA – 75 mg a day (25 – 3x)
Royal Jelly – pure, not in honey: 1/4 tsp am & pm
(if you take RJ in honey: 1 tsp am and pm)
Inisotol – 4,000 mg a day (2000 am & pm)
Melatonin – 3 mg a day (evening)
CoQ10 – 400 mg a day (200 – 2x)
Omega 3 Fatty Acid 1200 mg a day
Vitamin C - 500mg (pm)
Vitamin E - 200 mg (am)
L-Arginine - 2000 mg (1000 am & pm)
Pycnogenol - 100 mg (pm)
Baby Aspirin – 81 mg a day (am)
Folic Acid – 600 mg a day (pm)
Wheat Grass – 4-5 pills a day
Prenatal Multi with 200 mg DHA (evening)

A few months of these should do major improvements on egg quality and #s.
