Unhappy Trigger injection gone wrong?

I did my pregnyl trigger injection at 9.15 this evening. It bled quite a bit when I took the needle out. I'm worried now I injected it into a vein - it's bruising pretty badly. The clinic never gave any advice on making sure not to hit a vein or what to do if you do hit a vein. Is there any way to make sure the trigger worked? I'm meant to be going for egg collection on Tuesday but if the trigger didn't work properly there won't be any eggs to collect!

Any advice appreciated - I'm panicking!

I'm sure it's fine. You can take a pregnancy test to be sure that it worked. My clinic always had me take one the day after trigger. If it's positive, the trigger worked.

in which part of your body you did the injection? Did you use the small needle? I only have the Ovidrel as trigger so I don't know how the others are. But you shouldn't have gone wrong if you inserted it in some fat, maybe you pushed it too hard?

I agree, take a HPT in the am. If its negative, then call your RE and let them know. I think you are fine

You may have just hit a vein on the way in, not necessarily injected it into a vein. I've done that with PIO before. I think it will be fine. Ask your RE anyway, just to ease your mind. And I think the HPT is a great idea.

After inserting the needle but prior to the actual injection did you pull back on the syringe to check if you were in a vein? I agree with the other posters, you probably went through a vein and didn't necessarily inject into a vein and you will be fine. Take a hpt in the morning and call your clinic to put your mind at ease.

The same thing happened to me during a trigger for an iui and also a couple of times with my PIO injections. I know it is scary, so much blood squirting out. My husband and I joke about how much trouble he'd be in if I ever disappeared and the police ran forensics on our bathroom.

thanks for taking the time to answer - I really appreciate it. I didn't pull back on the plunger after inserting the needle. The clinic have never mentioned that to me. I realised I should've done that when I did an online search to see if the bleeding after injecting was a problem. that's when I realised you're not meant to inject into a vein. as I said no one told me this before.

I guess I'll just have to ring up and hope they can check if it worked or something. that's a lot of money to waste if I've done it wrong!

Try not to worry I'm a nurse ... We dont check for blood in a sub Q injection ... The chances of u injecting into a major blood vessel are basically none u likely just went through it. With IM injections u do need to check the needle is longer and more likely to reach a big vessel although that's not to common either

Trigger shots can be subcutaneous or IM. Do you know which yours was? If subcu, then the chance that you actually injected into a vein are lower. If IM, you do need to retract on the syringe to see if you have blood. I would call your clinic and actually have them do an HCG test today to make sure the trigger went into your system. I would hesitate to use just a pregnancy test, because they could detect that a low amount of HCG went in, but it may not be enough. If you go in for bloodwork, you should be able to rest comfortably knowing that your levels or good. If they are not, perhaps they could have you trigger again. I think the chances are pretty good that everything is just fine, but I would want the extra reassurance.

Thank you!

I rang the clinic and they did a hcg test the next day and said my levels were fine. They seemed surprised at my concern but with the cost of IVF cycles I don't know how you wouldn't be concerned if you thought the trigger shot went wrong!

Only got 4 mature eggs in the end so still not entirely convinced it went well but I guess it could've been worse.

Thanks again for your advice and support!
