Smile Newbie ~ Question for Tina Marie

Hello to All!
I've enjoyed reading all about you, thought I would finally make myself known.

Anyway- Tina I saw that you had low ovarian reserve, I just had my cycle cancelled due to poor response. I was wondering just how many follicles/eggs you were able to produce. We will be trying another cycle just as soon as AF shows up.
You give me much hope, especially since this is your first try with IVF too!

Thanks for letting me be nosey ~ Cheryl

Hi Cheryl - Welcome!!! This is a great place to get information and calm your nerves. My cycle started out promising. I had 14 follicles that they thought would have eggs in them at the retrieval. Turns out, only 8 of them had eggs, and only 5 of the 8 were healthy enough to attempt to fertilize. We needed to use ICSI. 4 of the 5 eggs fertilized, which is a great ratio, however... the embryos weren't the greatest quality. We put back:

1 "Grade 1" embryo, but it only had 3 cells
1 "Grade 3" with 5 cells
1 "Grade 3" with 8 cells

(I've been told that looking at embryos on Day 3 is like watching an 5 lap race and calling it by the 3rd lap. Some embryos will just kick in to gear. )

So we'll see. My ER said that several of my follicles had "grainy" or "mushy" walls. He said a few of these are common, but I had a few more than he'd like to see. I hope this helps! What was your response before you got cancelled?

Also - I've been mulling around the possibility of doing an egg donor. Curious if you or anyone here has thought about that/done that.

Hi Tina Marie ~ Thanks for the reply.
I was on stims (Fostimon) for 10 days and it only resulted in 4 very small follicles with the probability that there was only 1 egg in the bunch. We will be starting all over in about 2 weeks whenever AF shows up. I gave myself the Ovidrel injection last night to "release" the rejects, lol.
My RE is going to do a few tweaks, lower dose of Lupron, etc. My Mom started menopause early, hoping that is not the case for me.

I JUST WANTED TO TELL YOU THAT I HAVE A FRIEND (WHO HAPPENS TO SHARE YOUR NAME) THAT HAD THIS PROBLEM. THEY CANCELLED HER FIRST CYCLE DUE TO LACK OF ENOUGH FOLLICLES...AFTER THE SECOND ROUND, SHE ONLY HAD A COUPLE OF FOLLICLES. SHE TOLD THEM THEY BETTER JUST TAKE WHAT THEY HAD--AND THEY GOT 2 EMBIES TOTAL! SHE HAS A VERY HANDSOME 7 YEAR OLD SON AS A RESULT!!!!!

IT JUST TAKES ONE GOOD EMBRYO! SOMETIMES THOSE THAT DONT LOOK GREAT IMPLANT FINE, AND THEN SOME WOMEN IMPLANT 3 GOOD QUALITY EMBROYS AND IT DOESNT WORK--ITS ANYBODY'S GUESS, BUT YOU'LL NEVER KNOW UNTIL YOU TRY!!!

Cheryl!

I agree with Kat, you just never know. I have DOR (Day 3 FSH was 12.9) and my RE said we would try 2 IUIs with Follistim injections and them move to IVF. I could tell he didn't hold out alot of hope that IUI would work for us but felt we should give it a try because it's less invasive. Our first IUI didn't work and with our second IUI, I only had 1 mature follicle at trigger. I came home and said to dh, why are we even bothering with treatment. But it worked and I am now 7 wks pg. So it really does only take one and you just never know when it's going to work.

Wishing you lots of luck!

Thanks for that input Kobl!!! I will only have 2 mature follies at trigger tonite and at least I know that there is hope out there!!! I told them that I wanted to do two IUIs this weekend..(how come none of them suggest this???? Doesnt it give you more of a shot? and it would be less expensive than waiting for another cycle and buying the meds all over again???) Anyhow, wish me luck..tomorrow and friday at 10AM..I'll take all the prayers I can get!

Cheryl, welcome. I also have diminished ovarian reserve w/ my highest FSH being 17. I totally agree w/ Kat and Kelly. We may not be able to produce tons of eggs, but it doesn't take tons to have one healthy baby. And sometimes you just get a cruddy cycle, and the next time you respond so much better. Bigsista, I'll be praying for you!! It was so smart to ask for 2 IUI's. I wonder how much it can up your chances??? Good luck sweetie!!!

Tina and Biggsista, I will be praying for both of you this cycle! Good luck!

PS - I also did two IUI's per cycle and I think it might be part of why it worked for us. How can it not help your chances?
