i'm wondering what to be expecting during my upcoming ivf cycle. is weight gain a common side effect? i know bloating occurrs due to growing follies, but does actual weight gain happen too? i've seen it mentioned in a number of posts, so i'm hoping somebody can offer some info! thanks!

Hi! Well, everyone reacts to the meds differently but, I haven't had any weight gain (but I have had bloating). So, some people do experience weight gain and others don't. But, I guess in the long run, our goal is some pretty serious weight gain once those embryos implant!

yeah i agree, i didnt have any weight gain, just severe bloating... i just felt blah a good week after my ER, but they did get out 22 eggs so i guess its normal. good luck!!

I gained a few pounds, but probably because I've been "taking it easy" and not doing anything strenuous. I'm sure you'll be fine!

thanks so much for the responses- i think because i still have so long to wait until i actually begin, i'm getting so nervous about all the little things. all of your info helps though!

Strangely enough, I lost between 6-9 pounds on the meds. In the very begining, I felt a bit nauseous and mostly I had a metallic taste in my mouth so nothing appealed to me.

If my SET didn't take (hopefully this won't be the case ), maybe I'll lose the other 9 pounds I need to on the next cycle.

I gained a good 5-7 lbs during the cycle--and then it worked so I kept gaining!!! Just think of it--some will go in your bra!

i had severe bloating so bad my clothes didn't fit anymore period. i was huge. however, i didn't notice a huge change in the scale, which was weird. i did gain a good 10 lbs this past year from all the treatments (see my sig). plus my energy was down, so i stopped working out as much as usual and stopped completely before IVF just as a precaution. i got really bloated during stim week and it never went away.....it stuck around unfortunately. i now have gained 4 lbs, but i am okay with it (now 12 weeks along!). just don't stress too much about the weight gain, think about the end result of your miracle! sweatpants were my best friend!

Ive been on lupron shots now for 7 months and noticed a huge increase in my weight the shot drives me crazy

I was 118 when we started trying now 144. 26 lbs over 16 months. 11 injectable cycles (iui & IVF) Not cute at all. I think some from the meds and rest from stress of the 2 ww etc. After my last ivf I put on 4 lbs in 2 weeks. Chocolate. I was too thin before so aiming for 130 lbs. so 14 lb's to go.

I keep thinking I am going to get pregnant, so why get in shape. #wrong

I temporarily gained about 4lbs while doing the injectables. THe bloating continud throughout and just now has gone back to normal for the most part. Once I stopped the injectibles I would say within a week I had lost that weight. So I would say it was basically water weight. Oh, and as someone mentioned my boobs def. got bigger and hurt a lot!
