Since a whole bunch of clinics have just opened in my area, some of which are satelites of larger clinics, I wanted to talk to my doctor before I made a move. My old doctor runs several clinics around town. I wanted to be positive that the clinic doing the trials had no affiliation with him. I bumped into my doctor when I was at work today and ran the idea by him. He wants to know details of the trial, but he highly recommends the doctor involved. So far, this seems like a good opportunity with a good team. I put in a call this afternoon after the office had closed. Now I'm just waiting to see if they call and what they say.

Hey Rose -

I am sure you will hear back from them. When I talked to Maryanne last she said they could be looking for almost 100 people for the trial!!! They are busy though, I'll warn you! But to me, it's worth it because they are covering so much of the cost! My understanding from talking to people who have been contacted is the trial is for the progesterone trial study. I posted the link earlier, but I'll try to find it again if I didn't. So you could probably send him the information on that one. I think my trial (long acting stim drug) is closed now.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that it works out for you!

Oh and if anybody else comes out here, let me know! I'd love to meet any and all of you!

Kristen

Yay!!

I too was called back today from CORM for my initial screening. My appointment is on Tuesday. I am from Utah so I will be flying down on Monday and staying down there in a hotel by myself...I am a little nervous about traveling by myself in a unfamiliar state without my hubby but hopefully it will all be worth it. I just wish my husbands work (FEDEX) would be a little bit better about giving him time off! Oh well....I guess that is just how it goes.

When I spoke with MaryAnne today she said they are testing a new kind of progesterone method similar to the birth control "Nuva-ring" where the little flexible plastic ring is inserted vaginally and it slowly releases progesterone. All of the other meds are the same as with their regular IVF process.

I am so excited to do this, even DH is getting excited and hopeful that this is it for us! Let me know who else is going down and we can keep in touch through our cycles!

Melanne - Have a safe trip. If you are able to do the cycle, are you just going to stay in Texas for the whole thing? I live in Louisiana so I will be driving back and forth. When they told you about the study, did they tell you any more info on the new meds? Do you know if they have been used before? I have so many questions to ask because I want to make sure that I am getting into the right thing. I have been TTC for over 5 years and the wait is killing me. Before I found out about the study, I was planning on doing IVF with my current dr. in May. I am soooooo scared about all the decisions.

Nicole (and anyone else) - here is the link to the study they are performing.

A Clinical Trial to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of DR-2011 for In Vitro Fertilization - Full Text View - ClinicalTrials.gov

It's different slightly from what I am doing, but it looks like everything leading up to the IVF is the same. The only difference is that they are testing a ring for progesterone vs the crinone vaginal suppositories (which basically means no PIO shots!!!). As with any trial, you may get the ring or you may get the gel, you won't know until you get to that point which one you get. My personal opinion is that I'd rather be in this trial than the one I'm on! LOL! I'm in one that is testing a new long acting stimulation drug!! I figure, I'm helping others achieve their pregnancies too by participating and the fact that they are paying for practically everything is even more incentive!!

I hope this helps! I can attest that the clinic is BRAND NEW! They have been around for years and years but they just built a brand new facility with its own surgical unit. Everything there is state of the art and the doctors and staff are so sweet. Every nurse that I have encountered always has a smile on their face. I'll warn you, sometimes they run behind schedule and the wait times are long...but it's so worth it I think! Good luck! And if you need anything here let me know!

Melanee have you done IVF before? I was just wondering because I called the clinic on Tuesday and am waiting for a call back. I haven't wanted to post because I have only done IUI's and have PCOS and Stage II endo so wasn't sure I would be accepted and I live in Ohio so I didn't know if that would hinder their decision. Oh and I am also in the 2ww from my last injectable cycle (see siggy ). So it seems like I have a lot against me right now. I am just really afraid that I wont get accepted . Dh and I really dont have the funds for IVF right now but it is our next logical step so that is why I thought it wouldn't hurt to try.

The thing Dh and I have going for us though is we both have 3 weeks paid vacation for this year and my job is extremly flexible with working aroung IF treatments. Oh and airfare from Cleveland is also pretty reasonable. Anybody who is in the process if you could give me any info please such as when you called, when you heard back, what forms you filled out, and how soon your first appointment was/will be would be wonderful info. And do you think I am just following a pipe dream here or could this actually work out for Dh and I? Oh I hope I am not stepping on any toes and I wish everyone the best of luck!!!

Mia - I don't think you are following a pipe dream! I think you are being cautious which is fine! I personally haven't heard those questions on the exclusions but someone else might remember from the phone calls.

Also, I wouldn't feel bad about bugging them either. Babybearjmd (Janice) bugged them for several days before she heard from someone! They may have missed a number on the voicemail and can't reach you. You never know. Try both phone numbers on the website too (don't call Maryanne directly because she's swamped and told me she rarely checks her messages). I think the secretaries are doing all the screenings first and then passing them on to Maryanne. Good luck, hon! I hope you get in! I'll be saying some prayers for you!

Thanks Kristen !!!!

I emailed Maryanne on Monday and she replied that I should call the number (which I did before I emailed her) and that I should hear back within a week. But I just called and left another message just in case. I just dont want being in the 2ww to hinder anything. This would be so wonderful if everything worked out. Well I am just going to try and be patient and see what happens. If it is meant to be it will be, if not than god has another plan to bring me my baby. I will keep you updated.

Congratulations!!! There is an airport close to Webster called Houston Hobby (HOU). It's about 20 minutes from the Webster office. Is your appointment in Beaumont or Webster? They are about 1.5 hours apart from each other. Houston is probably better for airfare than anything going into Beaumont.

Also for those coming in from out of state, if you are flying into Houston Intercontinental (IAH) it is about a 45 minute to an hour drive from the Webster office .

Let us know when you get your appointment!!
