Hi Lorry!

I'm so glad you found the trial!! Definitely call the trail study hotline number and leave a message (MaryAnne will probably email you back and tell you to do the same thing). Good luck and let us know when they schedule you up! Looks like there is a good group of us forming! I'm going to try and make a list later tonight so we can keep in touch!

YAY!!
I am so excited that so many people are thinking about doing this! I am kinda worried though because I didn't even think to ask which location my appointment was at?

Kristen, if they didn't specify which one...would it just be the one in Houston on Kirby Drive? I will email them and just double check. I hope I haven't been planning my whole trip around the wrong facility I haven't booked anything yet though so its okay if I did I will just have to do some rearranging.

Okay I am going to do my best at answering the questions that were asked. I have not done IVF before, just done 3 failed IUI's. I don't have any known history of Endometrioses or Polycystic. I am from Utah and I will be traveling down for each visit and only staying down there for the appointments. When I spoke to MaryAnne she said that they would try to work with me to get all they can get done in each trip so that I can be traveling down there as little as possible. I will be just staying in a hotel around the corner from the facility. I emailed them last wednesday night and got 2 phonecalls the next morning, they did my pre qualification on the phone on Thursday and said they would call me back if they wanted me to come down. I got the call yesterday morning (Tuesday) to schedule my initial screening. So I did have to wait a little while for them to call me back.

I spoke with Maryanne yesterday and was asking her about this progesterone ring, and she said its basically the same as the progesterone suppositories but it just works a different way. My sister is a registered nurse here in Utah and she asked around the hospital and from what people said it seems safe! That is the only thing that they will be testing at least on my test (I think they are done accepting people for the one that kristen is doing, with the long lasting stim drug). So I bet it would be pretty safe to say that if the rest of us haven't started the process yet we will be doing the progesterone ring.

Like Kristen (passionscientist) said..they are SO busy right now trying to get everything in order so don't get discouraged if it takes a while to hear back from them.

Lorry~YAY I am so excited to hear that you are down in that area! I think if a bunch of us are down there at the same time we should meet up and go to dinner of something down there!

Let me know if anyone has any more questions!

Mel

Hey Mel -

Most likely you will be going to the one in Webster as that is their main office. But definitely double check with Maryanne! If you need a good hotel recommendation, let me know Most of the hotels on Bay Area Blvd are nice and closeby (not walking distance though).

Hi girls!!! There are quite a few of us here. We can compare our experiences with the trial and clinic. Thank you Kristen!!! .

I had my appt first this past Monday. I will be in the progesterone trial. I was supposed to come in for day 3 lab work, but AF didn't cooperate. I went down there anyways and asked them to do as much as they possibly could so the trip would not be wasted. My appt was at 10 AM. They asked me to come in earlier and I told them that I wouldn't be able to because of the distance traveled. I instead asked them to fax me any and all paper work that needed to be read and filled out. I brought all of the paper work with me and it saved a little time. I also brought a copy of my RE records, DHs urologist records, and my last pap results from my PCP.

There were quite a few people in the waiting room, but everyone was friendly. They did a trans-vaginal U/S, std cultures, and lab work for HIV, hep b and c. During the u/s they counted my antral follicles and measured my ovaries and checked out the uterus. They also went over the study consent forms with me and had me sign and initial a jillion pages. DH came with me and they drew blood from him to test for HIV, hep b and c. THe study protocol dictates all of the testing. If your DHs can get tested by their own pcp, then that's ok too. The clinic will verify your DHs insurance before the test to see whether or not you have to pay out of pocket.

The paper work is a little overwhelming at first and expect to pay a little money (@$1100) over the course of myour cycle. The study doesn't pay for embryo cryopreservation or storage and there are some administrative fees that they said had to be paid for out of pocket (not on the first visit though). I made sure to remind them that I was coming from out of town and Maryanne assured my that they would try to combine as many of my visits as possible.

They will be using a lupron protocol with bcps. Once AF comes, I will go back to Houston for day 3 labs and I will get my bcps. I will start taking them once the lab results are back and FSH shows normal. I will then have to go in on a Thursday (10-21 days after bcps) to get shot instructions and the lupron. I will take the lupron for 2 weeks beginning Friday after the Thursday appt. After taking the lupron for 2 weeks, I will go back to the clinic and begin the stims (gonal F). Once I begin stims, I will pretty much stay in Houston until at least 3 days after ET. That's very roughly 3 weeks. They want you on bed rest for 48 hours after ET so don't plann on traveling back until then. Once you get the study protocol, look over all of the visits. There are a lot. After ET, you have to go back to the clinic at least once a week for the next 3 weeks. If you are pregnant, there will be more visits.

All in all, it is definitely worth it! The clinic is very nice and there are plenty of hotels and restaurants around the clinic. They do most of there stuff in the Webster office. If for some reason, you want to go to the Houston office for certian things (NOT the first appt though), just let them know. Continental Airlines has some pretty good special to Houston fairly often. Most of these arrive on Sat and depart on Mon or Tues. Oh by the way, they will also work with you (if it falls into you IVF schedule)and see you on weekends if it is more convenient.

Just as an FYI, this trial is also going on in Dallas at The Center for Assisted Reproduction in Texas - Fertility Treatment They do not advertise on there website though. Maryanne had mentioned it to me that there are 3 locations in Texas: Houston, Dallas (Bedford), and Austin.

All of the different sites are listed in the link to the study. Kristen posted it earlier, but herre it is again: A Clinical Trial to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of DR-2011 for In Vitro Fertilization - Full Text View - ClinicalTrials.gov
It doesn't list the clinic name so you would have to do some hunting. You could probably call the main study coordinator on the clinicaltrials.gov site and ask. Maybe one of those locations would be more convenient.

Anyways, I hope this gives you a better idea of what will go on. Good luck to everyone!!!

Great information Janice!!! I didn't realize they were doing it so many locations in Texas and across the country! That's awesome! I hope more people can take advantage of it!! Spread the word! LOL!

PS - Since you mentioned the flight information, there are also flights on Southwest into Houston Hobby that are easier/cheaper than flying Continental. Hobby is much closer to CORM than IAH. Just an FYI.

Hey frymomma -

Your close by! Very cool!

Probably my mistake for saying it was paid for in full because the trial I am in (which is now full) is paying for everything except for some antibiotics and cryproservation of any remaining embryo's. This new trial sounds like they are paying for a lot of the fees, but not all. I think the cryopreservation and storage fees are the bulk of that fee though plus some of the medications so depending on what insurance you have it may cover some of the medication costs. I need to talk to Janice, but I have only had to pay for some of my medications so far on my trial and it's only cost me $18...if I didn't have insurance paying those it would have been around $90.

You will get more information when you talk to Maryanne...GOOD LUCK!

Kristen,

Thanks for posting the locations and contact info. I sent emails to both and called the number. I have not heard anything yet from Houston but it would be so great if
I could participate in one here in Ohio or Michigan. Is this all the same study? Well I hope to hear something from someone soon!!!! Good luck everyone I hope this brings a lot of BFP's .
