How long does it usually take to start AF after taking prometrium? I am just wondering about when I could start the process for IVF. You really don't think that they will not let me participate if they have to give me prometrium??????

I can't answer how long it will take AF to show up but I don't think that you having to take Prometrium will keep you from being in the study. The whole reason for the study is for those people who have problems conceiving and that isn't just male factor problems. Good luck and keep us updated!

I sure hope it won't. I wish they would prescribe it to me before I get there so I can start right away but I know they need to do all of the b/w and physical!!! I just am getting so excited! All you girls know how I feel!!!

Hi Karen,

It normally takes 7 to 10 days after you start Prometrium... it took for me 8 days.
As Kristen said, they are looking for people that need the IVF to get pregnant... then, we are here!

Kristen-I spoke to a lady at a clinic in Chicago that said that she has seen some very good results in this study so far and is very excited to have women in the program. They are full there which was too bad because I got more information from her than anyone, she actually talked to me for 25 min even though they were full and couldn't help me!

lua-I am on BCP. Will that affect anything with starting prometrium? I know that BCP is supposed to regulate your cycle but it hasn't done anything. If BCP has started to regulate me will I confuse my system with starting prometrium? Should I stop taking them until they tell me what I should do???What do all of you think?

I know for the clinical trial you will need to stop the BCPs and then start them again when you get your AF. But I would wait for them to tell you all this, don't take my word for it . It's wacky how it all works really...

foxracer: I am in the study in the Dallas area, we had our 1st appt Tuedsay. The study requires some screening before they actually begin the ivf part. I had to do a pap, b/w, vitals, etc... I don't know if you've seen my earlier posts, but we were about to start ivf at a different RE on 3/31 so I had taken 5 days of bcp. The study nurse told me I have to have a FSH test done after 30 days of NO hormones in my system before we can start ivf for the study. So, now that I've done most of my screening, I have to wait til AF in May to finish the FSH 'baseline' test. I am not advising you to stop your bcp, but perhaps send a quick email to your study nurse and let her know you are on them and if you should stop, so as not to delay your start date any further.

Thanks for the info. I had read your posts before that is why I was concerned but I will email them and ask them what they want me to do first before I decide to stop using them. (They haven't helped me anyway)
