I'm also going to have to have a sonohystogram and a cervical cannulation. Can someone explain what these are? I'm not schedule yet but I think they will schedule these after my ART class in March. My cycle may end up more in May than April. I'm getting so excited and anxious.

A saline infusion sonogram (saline sonography) is routinely performed to make sure that the endometrial cavity (inside of the uterus) appears normal. Benign uterine growths, such as endometrial polyps or uterine fibroids, may develop in the cavity and create an environment that is hostile for implantation. Scar tissue may also be identified with the saline infusion sonogram. This procedure may be done as part of an evaluation for recurrent pregnancy loss or done prior to an IVF cycle. It may also be done to evaluate causes of irregular or very heavy menstrual cycles and some types of chronic pelvic pain. The saline infusion sonogram is scheduled early in a menstrual cycle, just after your period stops but before ovulation – usually between days 5-12 of the cycle.
The procedure is simple and usually takes 10 to 15 minutes to complete.
v A speculum is inserted into the vagina and the cervix is cleansed with an antiseptic solution.
v A special catheter approximately 1mm in diameter (about the size of a single strand of spaghetti) is inserted and slides through the cervical canal.
v The ultrasound probe is placed in the vagina.
v Sterile salt-water solution (saline) flows through the catheter into the uterine cavity. This distends the endometrial cavity and allows the physician to see the entire cavity on the ultrasound monitor. You may experience mild cramping at this point.
v Several images of your uterus will be taken during the procedure, pictures of your ovaries may also be taken.

A sonohystogram or SHG is when they fill your uterus with saline and do an ultrasound. They're looking for fybroids or any abnormalities with your uterus. It's not particularly comfortable, but I didn't find it painful. You might get cramping afterwards. I had an SHG two years ago but have to get another one since the results are only considered uptodate for two years.

Nikki, I got my rubella tests done in Jan.
Kelly, I start my BCPs on the 3rd day of AF

I also had a hysteroscopy which is like a SHG, but instead of ultrasound, they insert a camera inside!

What didn't you like about the Lupron? I thought that was the easiest part of it all!

Hey,

For those of you trying to get healthy, there is a thread going called Get sex by summer. Thought you might like to join it. Frymomma started it and asked a couple of questions that you can answer or not. I think it might be a good accountablility for me.

I'm pretty sure that they do the bcps so the RE has complete control of oyur cycle. It also starts the supression. I will start bcps anywhere between the 2nd and 6th day of my cycle. Since I am in a clinical trial study, I will have to do lupron. My original RE was going to have me do an antagonist protocol like you're doing.

Jana, I so wish I could lose some more weight. I was doing really well on WW last fall before we found out about the IF. I quit smoking the same month we found out about IF and the pounds came back on. I lost about 30 lbs from last June - October and have gained back at least 15 of them. UUGGGHHH! It is so hard for me to get started again. I just am so tired and upset, anxious, depressed? about everything. I have to get out of this slump...

Believe me when I say I understand. I started WW in July and between then and December I lost 15 lbs. I couldn't understand why I was doing everything right and losing so slow. Finally in December I was diagnosed with PCOS and had a reason for the slow loss. Needless to say I stopped going to WW. In January I found out that both of my tubes were blocked so I went on a screw this s*** trip. I ate whatever I wanted and did very little exercising if any. I've only gained 2 lbs. back, but I think that's because my muscle turned to fat. I can tell my body has changed for the worst. Here I am know trying to motivate myself to go back to the gym and eat better. I'm tired all the time and the sad part is I'm not working this year. I've got to get back to the gym consistantly so I can start feeling better.

LadyR...your English is perfect! Do you have English classes all throughout school....I'm pretty sure they're putting me on the same medications for this next cycle. My RE is on vacation so I'll have to wait until he returns to find out for sure.

Irena..I love your kitty picture...is that your cat?

KathyH...I noticed you're taking DHEA..Ironically I was just looking up on the internet about that the other day. It looks like the studies were really promising so I told myself I was going to go out and get some today. What dose are you taking? Are you doing acupuncture as well? I noticed a big improvement in my cycles after doing acupuncture for a month. The first cycle went poorly with a poor response but my last cycle did pretty well as far as the number retrieved (even if it was a BFN, it was still an improvement).

amy2244, English is a second language for us and we are taught from kindergarten. A legacy of the 'British Raj' (British rule) as we say, but no one is complaining I am a 'northie' and my DH is a 'southie' and I dont understand his language at all! So what language do you think we communicate in? ENGLISH!!! lol

I believe the ease in which people from diverse cultures can share each others joys and pains on these boards is amazing....

On a more serious note....

KathyH...<snip>Are you doing acupuncture as well? I noticed a big improvement in my cycles after doing acupuncture for a month. The first cycle went poorly with a poor response but my last cycle did pretty well as far as the number retrieved (even if it was a BFN, it was still an improvement).

Not my kitty, just a cute picture I found somewhere. My two kitties are about 15 years older than the one in the picture!

I am also considering acupuncture. My naturopath recommended it yesterday so now I've got a call into a practitioner to find out the process and price. I've got overall excellent healthcare, but even it doesn't cover acupuncture ...
