ANH: How important is it?

I just got my blood work back for the second time; FSH 8.33, Estradiol 41, AMH 0.8. Apparently, this means that I have low ovarian reserve. I am 35 so, I expected the numbers to be slightly lower than normal. I didn't expect it to be so low.
I am planning to do ER and ET in August. But, these numbers scare me a bit. The clinic doesn't seem to optimistic about my chances.
I have seen worse numbers out there and yes, they got pregnant.
Here is my question though. What weight would you put on AMH? I am more concerned about responding to the drugs and the retrieval. I know the ultimate goal is to get pregnant but, at this point I would settle for a few good quality eggs first!
So, did anyone get good eggs with a low AMH and if you wouldn't mind what was your protocol?
And I totally messed up this the title of this post! It should have been AMH! Grr!

Hi,

I am sorry about your AMH #'s. I went through the same thing, my AMH level was 4. I was 35 at the time too. I went on thinking that maybe there would be a chance for me. They told me that it didn't look good.

I went on because I had 9 follies and on day of ER they only got one immature egg. I am not trying to tell you not to do this, but if you pay out of pocket i would definately talk to your RE about your chances and or options before you spend anything further.

I was sooo disappointed with everything that I had been through I was hoping and praying for a miracle, but I had to come to grips with the fact that a low AMH does mean that there is a greater chance of having very few and even no eggs to retrieve. I learned the hard way. I am not saying that this is the same as your situation, but I would advise that you talk to your doctor about what your numbers are and the chances that you will have anything to retrieve.

I truly hope for you all the best. and a very soon.

Amy

Only one immature egg, matured overnight, ICSI but no fert diagnosed with low ovarian reserve. On to DEs overseas.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate your honesty. It is difficult for me to get a straight answer from the clinic. One told me not to worry if my Estradiol was below 50. Another told me that 41 was too high it should be closer to 20. Then the AMH being 0.8 was another controversy within that office. One said that it really lowered my chances while another stated that they would just need to use stronger drugs to stimulate my ovaries.
I would love to go through this and have a . But, if my chances are in that 15% or lower range, I'm just not sure that it is financial sound for me. Everything is out of pocket. I can afford a fresh cycle and a frozen. Beyond that I don't know that we will be able to continue.

Since, I can't seem to get a straight answer from the docs. I am here hoping that some IVF veterans can tell me how it has affected them and their cycles. So, thank you.

Hi again,

With an AMH of only 0.8 I would think that your Dr would have told you your much lowered chances. Mine did and because our insurance covered 90% we figured that we had nothing to lose. How wrong I was. I wish that I had thought it through a lot more and just saved and gone with DE.

Our insurance does not cover anything for a DE cycle so we knew that this was our last chance to have a child. I will at least know that I am carrying a child that is part of my husband and that gives me some comfort.

I would advise you to think long about going through an IVF, I had a very hard time dealing with all of the emotion that came along with another failure. I know that this journey is not what any of us have chosen, but we do have a responsibility to ourselves not to make it harder than it has to be.

I went through 2 months of BCP, and starting stims, all of the money that we spent on meds and the like and we could have been preparing for a DE cycle. I wish now that we would have done just that as we now have to wait until NOV to move on, and being in this place of waiting has not been easy either. It has not been made any easier by me feeling like I should never have attempted another IVF.

Now I feel ALOT more educated and I know that there is a much greater chance of me having a pregnancy with DE and I am ok with that.

I really hope for your sake that whatever you decide you will do it with the knowledge that you have made the effort to gather all the info that you can about your chances. I would definately ask my doc to sit down and give it to me straight, and know that before you spend anything on IVF that you have assured yourself that no matter the outcome that you have weighed this carefully and you won't have any regrets.
