I believe I am starting out with 150 units in the morning and 150 units at night. I'd be curious if this sounds agressive or not?? My first IVF I did 225 Units at night .. so, this isn't that much more.

Tara

150 twice a day is a protocol I've done before. Starts the eggs out with a bang. I'd bet you get more than 5!! The more the merrier!!

Hmm...I don't think I'd try that! I haven't done PIO yet- but me nurse did reccomend warming the PIO in my hands first, and to even do the injection, and jump right into a warm/hot shower and massage the area. I think I'll be investing in a heating pad also!

When I got it, it was in a tube like toothpaste. I used it for 3 cycles and then moved to ice packs. I actually preferred ice to the cream so you can always try that. Definitely use a heating pad after the shot for about 5 mins. You can also warm the PIO in your hands before you inject, which helps.

A good friend of mine here at work just stopped by w/ her 6 month old twins (a boy & a girl)....She did IVF last year....They are ADORABLE!!!
She was teasing me as she was leaving-- telling me she was saving her double stroller for me...LOL
It encourages me b/c we have the same RE! Our RE's office uses progesterone suppositories. I've been seeing this question floating around on here lately. Are the PIO better or just easier....? I know the suppositories are going to be 3 times a day for SEVERAL, SEVERAL weeks....
I hope everyone is having a great day-- I'll post more later-- there is already so much to read on here!!

Karla,

I do the PIO's in the morning and suppositories in the evening. My RE does that to give a good mixture of progesterone. The suppositories are kind of messy and in some ways the shot is just easier but it is a big freaking shot! lol They both have pros and cons. Also, I get the Progesterone in ethyl-oleate from MDR pharmacy, which is 10x BETTER than Progesterone in Oil. If your pharmacy has the oleate, absolutely request it!

Try not to stress to much about the PIO. Easier said than done. Its really not that bad. I would ice for 5 min and you can't feel a thing.

My RE prefers the PIO to supositories.

I am so furious with my RE's office right now that I could scream. I know a lot of people pay out of pocket for IVF, so my apologies to those who don't want to hear about insurance problems.

My DH's insurance fully covers 3 cycles of IVF, but only through the end of this year. The only condition on our IVF rider is that the provider must be a member of SART (Society of Assistive Reproductive Technologies). Before we started IVF, I talked to the financial person at the hospital clinic where we were going, and she said it wasn't a problem, they were a member of SART. So, we were good to go. We were happy because we really like the clinic, and had done so many test through them already. We did IVF #1, and paid over $7000 up front because they require it, but we would get reimbursed when the insurance came through.

Now, I'm starting to get rejections from the insurance company because the provider isn't a member of SART. Talked to the financial person again, she assured me they were. Did more digging. Found out it wasn't the clinic's bills that were a problem. The problem is the two doctors who don't bill through the hospital! Those doctors don't appear to be member of SART, so my insurance won't cover the almost $3000 of their charges.

At no point during this did anyone tell me that we would be seeing doctors who weren't billed out through the hospital. And, I was told at least twice beforehand that the SART membership wasn't an issue, and this outside billing was NEVER mentioned! If we knew this was a problem we would have gone elsewhere.

I'm waiting for a call back from the financial person now, but it's late in their day, so I don't know if I'll hear. What makes me even angrier is that we're in process of doing a FET cycle, and don't know if we stop now or what to do.

I have never iced or used numbing cream for any of my injections. PIO is really not that bad. My DH is great at it. I draw up the PIO and hold syringe in my had for a minute to warm it up just slightly. I lean on something so that the leg attached to the cheek getting the injection is barely touching the ground. The more relaxed the muscle getting the injection is the less it hurts. I swear I rarely feel it. I lay on a heating pad afterwards so the PIO gets where it needs to and does not sit there causing a knot. After a week or sore your tush might get sore( I only really notice it when my son would smack me in the butt....LOL.)

Kelly- I usually take Naproxen for my cramps but nothing does the trick. I have to be on a heating pad to get relief. Therma care pads have saved my life. The ones for cramps. They get hot and that is the only way I'm able to work.

Hope everyone is having a great day!!!

I was woke by two horrible charlie horses in leg. Has anyone experienced this? My sister did IVF and said the meds uses up potass. And I hate bananas. they were bad!!!
