I am bleeding AGAIN and the RE said not to go to the emergency room but to wait and see him in the morning. I am so scared. I hadn't lifted a finger at home since before my first scare at 8 weeks and I happened to clean the majority of my house before I noticed the bleeding today. I'll keep you posted. Take care.

I am thinking of you.

Thanks so much for the well wishes. I am on bedrest again until I have 48 hours of no spotting/bleeding. They have no explanation other than "it happens" so that is kind of frustrating. We saw the baby and were relieved to see all the activity and a HB of 153. It measured at about 13 weeks 4 days.

I also received the results for the bloodwork that goes with the NT scan. For Downs it went from 1 in 97 to 1 in 155 and for Trisomy it went from 1 in 340 to 1 in 10,000. The only red flag was my HCG. It is very high and they will be monitoring it every 4 weeks. They say it is nothing to worry about now but is more of a concern at the 24th week. Three major problems of a high HCG at that point would be preeclampsia, placenta issues, and fetal growth issues. They told me not to worry (yeah right) and that its something that they see frequently. I asked what happens if it is still high at that time and she said you are usually in the hospital on steroids and could possibly be there until you deliver. Don't worry... hmmm, maybe they shouldn't have told me until the time I needed to worry about it.

Anyways, I am super happy the baby is doing fine. I am going to start watching Paul Newman movies On Demand to pass the time. I hope all of you are having a great day!

[quote=AzooDude]It's not something I've heard of, but I can share a couple things I found from Googling. It's probably stuff you already found, but I'll share in case it's helpful...

A lot of what I found was pretty technical - medical journal kind of stuff - but here's about the plainest short summary I found explainging the DQ alpha stuff:

Quote:
A. DQ Alpha
This test measures whether the DNA of the couple is too closely matched. These tests give you back two numbers for both members of the couple. In a normal pregnancy the father's DNA in the baby tells the mother's body to set up a protective reaction around the developing embryo. If the father's DNA is too closely matched to the mother's, there is a good chance that the embryo created by them is unable to differentiate itself from the mother's body. The mother's body then rejects the embryo because it cannot identify the embryo as a baby.

Each person gets two DQ numbers from their respective parents. Similarly, when couples try to have a baby, they also give DQ numbers to their fetus. These numbers are, for example, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 2, 3 or 4. Although there are breakdowns of the 2's, 3's and 4's, many scientists find that only the 1's are significant, so they break those down to one more decimal. Presently DQ Alpha testing is identifying more and more numbers, for example, DQ 4.0, 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3.

As I understand it, that means the DQ Alpha match means there's an auto-immune component to your infertility, so roughly speaking, your body treats the embryo like it's a disease. The best explanation I found about IVIg is too long to quote, but see Miscarriage Prevention: IVIg Therapy . What it does is introduce antibodies (from washed and processed donor blood) to your blood to keep your body from recognizing the embryo/fetus as a foreign body, so your immune system won't attack it.

I also found some interesting material on "natural killer cells" (like on the same site as that last link) that might be relevant, but I couldn't tell for sure if it was related to the DQ alpha thing, or a separate condition.

My search also turned up a recent journal entry (last June) by someone who apparently is going through the same or similar thing (matched on DQ Alpha 4.1 and was considering IVIg), and while it was new to her, too, maybe you could use a contact link to see if she was willing to share her experience or knowledge with you. The link to that entry is A little tough to explain, but an answer to my Infertility Struggle.. - CafeMom

I offer this with the standard disclaimer that I'm just another layman like you, sharing my interpretation of what I found on Google, so I hope it's helpful, but by all means ask your doctor lots of questions when you get a chance, and I apologize if I got any of it wrong.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for the information!! Our Dr said it only happens in 5% of couples and this is why we haven't been able to get PG on our own. Now we are no longer "unknown infertility"...
Thanks again for your research!!
