I'm going to watch the nationwide race Tony has the pole and take a nap. 5 follicles are ok I shouldn't be so frustrated about that! I only had 4 when we did IVF last time and ended up with 5 eggs.

Thank you, thank you Liza! I am hoping for a great present for both my b-day and anniversary! I got my e2 levels back this afternoon and it was 1625. It's not that high but I think I only have around 8 or so mature follies.

Thanks for the encouragement Jana. I'm just not sure what to expect with everything as this is my first IF treatment of any kind. It's just kinda scary. I've never had any surgeries for anything and am a little wary of this. Y'all all made it through so I will too.

Cathy, I hope you're doing ok and that you're day goes well tomorrow!

Janice - the ER and ET are a piece of cake, don't worry! I had no pain at all, and the ER is quick. My DH said before he knew it I was already out - it's like 15 minutes or so. If you know you get nauseous from anesthesia have them give you something in your IV. It helped me since when I had my lap they had to give me a shot b/c of nausea. Drink lots of water after and you'll be good! Nothing at all to be scared about.

Thanks Liza. I'm worried about dh too since he has to have his procedure done right before mine. The RE wants him to have anesthesia too for some reason. His UR told us that it would just be valium and local anesthetic so I'm not sure why the RE wants to change it. I want my hubby to be there right after I'm done. Do you think that's a little weird that the RE wnats to change the way my dh is having his procedure done?

hmm.. i honestly don't know. who does the procedure - the RE or urologist? why would the RE get a say in it? if DH's anesthesia is like yours, he will wake up quickly and you can be together.

The UR does the procedure at the RE's clinic. They work together on these cases where sperm needs to be retreived. I'm not sure why she would get a say in it; that's why I was confused. DH always throws up with anesthesia if we're not really careful. I think that we'll be pretty stubborn about not using the anesthesia unless they can give us a good reason.

I hope you're doing ok. How's the waiting goin? Are you keeping busy? Is work any better?

Hope he won't have to have the anesthesia, but make sure he gets that stuff in his IV if he has to. That helped me immensely. I keep forgetting I'm in the 2ww b/c I know it's bad, but I've got little faith in IUI's working for me. IUI's are sooo much more relaxed than IVF. Work is ok, thanks for asking. I can see that light at the end of the tunnel since we only have about 40 school days left!

Janice - I'm planning on doing micro-TESE next time we cycle, and my UR said he'll put me under. I trust his judgment, but I've also read (via Google) of it being done with local anaesthesia, and even more frequently so for TESA.

It's worth asking for clarification on, of course, but if your RE and UR have differing opinions on it, it seems to me like it's the call of whoever is doing the procedure, which sounds like the UR in this case. I'm interested to hear how this turns out, so please keep us posted.

Btw, it's not for the squirmy, but I found a link with a video of various sperm-retrieving procedures being performed. (No, that's not code for porn. It shows MESA and TESE.) The video is surgical and graphic, so consider yourself warned if you follow the link: MESA and TESE performed under local anesthesia - Video

Edited to add: I checked out the "media library" link underneath the video window on the page in that link, and there's lots of interesting stuff there. It's not all of procedures, but among other things, you can see a clip of what ICSI looks like under the microscope, as well as assisted hatching.
