side effects of birth control pills

I'm wondering if anyone else has had difficulty with taking brith control pills. I've been taking Desogen for 3 weeks now and have been feeling very depressed and irritable the past few days. I got some news on Tuesday that my cycle was going to have to be postponed by 4 weeks because DH's urologist (for TESE) decided to go on vacation during egg retrieval after calendar had been set. Of course, I'm feeling very disappointed but the past few days, I have been crying a lot and sleeping all day today. I'm supposed to be off the pills for one week after tomorrow's pill but then need to start them for 3 more weeks before my cycle. I can't help but to think the birth control pills are making me so down. Anyone else felt like this when on BCP's? Maybe I need to change to another one? I'm dreading starting another packet.

BCP in general make me very, very moody and *****y. They also give me migraines.

Desogen in particular made me actually nauseous to the point I was throwing up (and I didn't get morning sickness when pregnant as an FYI). I chose to stick it out because I didn't want to risk having them cancel my cycle and wait another month if we switched brands.

They make me very moody and tired too. I'm so sorry about your postponment. Any chance of getting a different urologist to do the TESE so you don't have to wait another month?

No, I asked about it and there wasn't anyone else we could use. DH even called urologist's office begging them to rearrange schedule and that's when we found out he was going on vacation.

Can u talk to the RE to see if there is a different BCP that might not give you the same side effects? I mentioned that my BCP made my AF about 10 days long and they said that if we did another cycle we could use a different BCP.

I, personally, have not had these symptoms, but I do know of others who have had these types of symptoms while being on BCP. Can they switch you to another brand of BCP?

Thanks ladies! I made contact with them yesterday and just heard back from the nurse. I had asked if they would switch pills but she didn't say they would do that. She said I should try acupuncture and herbs and that they were so sorry that my cycle was postponed. I've been doing acupuncture and herbs for a year and a half. I just can't stop crying. I just took my last BCP today and am taking a break for one week but I'm absolutely dreading starting another pack in a week. I can hardly get out of bed today or yesterday even though it's beautiful outside. I'm afraid that they may want me to see a psychiatrist and get on medication due to my history of depression if I contact them again. I have been doing so well off medication for 1.5 years and I don't want to take medication. I truly feel it's the pills. I'm so scared. I think DH may try and email my RE. He's pretty worried.

Back in the day when I thought I needed them, the first BCP I was on made me really moody. Unlike you, I didn't notice it, but my DH sure did! I switched to a different kind and the moodiness went away. Is there any way they can prescribe a different kind for your next three weeks?

I am so bad on BCPs. Luckily my RE didn't use them much - just put me on them last fall to try to shrink a cyst. Well, after 2 weeks I was a weeping mess and DH was ready to call for a trial separation (kidding)! I decided to go off of them and wait out a few months...My new RE was going to put me on them but (thank you!) said they were unnecessary in my case...b/c DH was making jokes to him that he has a set of chains and a small room in the basement for me to stay in while on them...

I did say to my new RE that we would be willing to do that BCPs if it meant I was more likely to get a BFP, but he said it wasn't the case. So, yes, that is ALL b/c of that pill (and it was the same pill you are on). I was a complete depressed and angry person the whole time.

I really hope it gets better (supposedly the first month is the worst and then your body starts to adjust). Good Luck.

Hey there!

Sorry you are having such an issue with the BCP but I'm sure its the pills. I had the same reaction when I used to take BCP and the dr put me on depression meds and wanted me to go to therapy...instead of treating me. Once I stopped the pills I was back to my own self. I knew it was the pills even though I was so depressed - I could 'feel' that something was not right. I think if you know it too, that it is indeed the pills. Try to keep that in mind and hopefully it will be a case of mind over matter - if the dr can't switch the brands.

Take care!

has anyone has a shortness of breath while taking pills?

It has been two weeks for me and I and absolutely phisically and emotionally exhausted. Last week husband insisted on taking me to emergengy room becasue my breathing scared him to death. I was catching air like a fish. I attributed it to my nerves and but husband kept insisting it was the pill. Last night he forced me to call my doctor and he agreed to change the pill. I will take a break today and satrt a new one tomorrow. Hope it is not critical.

Has anyone had similar experience with the pills?
