I worried about this too, and we only had 7 embies. At least 6 made it to 5 day and we transferred 2 with 4 to freeze, so my worry was for nothing. I know worrying is easy to do. hang in there. It will all work.

We will probably have to have a 3 day transfer and I was really upset about it. I would love to have a 5 day transfer, because statistically, your odds are better. I'm sure your RE wouldn't hold out for 5 days unless he thought a good portion of the embies would make it. If you want some reassurance about 5 day being more successful, go to the thread I started recently that was about 3 and 5 day transfers and multiples and follow Lawyerlady's link in her response. It will take you to some stats that will definitely make you feel better.

I too have been worried about whether my embabies can make it to day 5. I guess that is why I 'wanted' a 3 day..just because I'm scared that some won't make it to 5 days. I have come to understand that 5 day might be a little better, but now I start this whole new worry. If only 3 make it, will I put them all back? Obviously I wouldn't freeze just one....geez...the things that go through my mind and make me worry are so numerous.

Christa -
You actually could just freeze one. I've seen people on their second round of IVF (I'm sure you will be pregnant and another round would be to have even more babies) use a combination of fresh an dfrozen embies. For example, if they are unsure whether to transfer 2 or 3, they might transfer 2 good fresh embryos and also their frozen as they are usually not as hearty but give some additional chance. There is soooo much to fret over in IVF isn't there?

I had a day 5 transfer. On day 3 there were 10 good embryos, day 4 many stopped dividing and on day 5 we were only left with 3 blasts. I freaked out that the others did not make it. The ones they transferred were so strong they all stuck and are now growing into strong babies!!! I thought afterwards how lucky we were that we did not have a 3 day transfer with 2 or 3 embryos out of the 7 that did not make it.
Good luck!

I think its normal to worry about every aspect of your treatment no matter what it is. My re wants to do a three day transfer and Im worried because I feel like five is better. If she were doing five Id be worried they wouldnt make it and wish she were doing three. SOOOO much to worry about with ivf. Just try and trust your re, and I will follow my own advice

You absolutely nailed it. I think it's normal to second guess every decision because the decisions are monumental, carrying consequences that literally last a lifetime. The key is to trust your RE, but I don't take my own advice nearly as consistently as I should.
