Military Hospitals
There are several Military Hospitals that do IVF. My husband and I have accually desided to go through Genetics & IVF Institute they except tri-care and are the best IVF institute in the US. They also guarentee you'll get pregnant and deliver or they will refund all your money back. I know through the military hospitals that do IVF you pay only $6000.00 out of pocket. Tri-care pays the rest. But there is up to a 6 month wait list. You do have to have a refurral. Also the Military has a hospital in washington that is suppost to be the best out of all the military hospitals that do IVF's. Hope this is helpful..
GOOD LUCK.... ![]() |

Thank You
I just wanted to say thank you for your reply to my question. My husband and i just went through IVF at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in January of this year. It turned out very successful. Our baby girl is due on October 18th. We only had to pay $3400.00 for the procedure and all of the meds were provided except for the progesterone which only cost us $150.00. They have a wonderful IVF team. Everyone knew exactly what they were doing and they are extremely supportive throughout the procedure. I would recommend this hospital to any military member or spouse.

I think it's important to understand the difference between a DoD Miltary Treatment Facility and a VA hospital.
Walter Reed is a DoD military treatment facility - handling care for active duty servicemembers and their families as well as retired servicemembers adn their families. Their primary mission is to ensure a healthy battle-ready force. This is different from that of a VA hospital. The VA's mission is to provide ongoing medical care to retired or former servicembers for service-related health issues and as space is available, non-service-related care. Family members are NOT generally eligible for VA care. Military hospitals such as Walter Reed, Bethesda, Balboa, are also teaching hospitals and as such, they may provide certain medical care that does not generally have much to do with military 'readiness' such as gastric bypass surgery and possibly treatment of infertility, including IVF. Since this isn't a VA mission, I would be very surprised indeed if VA hosptials would provide this type of treatment. As far as coverage under TRICARE, be careful. TRICARE does not provide coverage for infertility treatment such as IUI, IVF and variations, they only pay for diagnostic procedures. I read the link you gave a was suprised because I have called tri-care my self. They will cover expences the only out of pocket expences would not exceed $6000.00. I have had fertility treatment for two years through Elmedorf Hospital. This hospital is also a VA hospital. They cerently do not do IVF's but will soon. I have had through them IUI's at no cost to me. Tri-care paid for all test on myself and my husband and did 1-1/2 years of IUI's. My doctor has refered me to do IVF's through one of the military hospitals. I am choosing to go somewhere else that excepts tri-care because of there success rate and have full approval from Tri-care. I do now that before you can get where we are is a long road through tri-care. We had to try everything else before we could get here. So Tri-care does cover a high % of IVF. Which works out to be most of the cost. IVF is around $16000.00 - $20,000.00 depending where you go. Alaska does not offer IVF here anywhere. So we would have to fly to somewhere that offers it. Thankfully we can fly military medic flights because we would be flying out for medical reasons. We have inquired about all these things. So for what ever reason Tri-care does cover cost. Maybe not !00% of IVF's but the greater portion. The military also has feritlity specialist. It would be hard to understand why tr-care says that they don't cover these servises but train there doctors to provide them. I work with a secialist here in Alaska on base that is all he does. He only handles a handfull of patients at a time and you have to meet certian requirments to even be seen by him. I don't know what to say about the link you provided I just know what we have done and are doing that the military has covered and are covering.
