35 week ultrasound

Hi ladies,
I had my ultrasound yesterday when I was 35 week and 1 day.
Everything seemed fine but the technician said the baby's head was measuring a bit more at 36 week 4 days. We asked the doctor about it and he said he is not concerned because everything seemed normal in the 20 week anatomy scan. Anyway he asked us to repeat the ultrasound after 3 weeks.
The baby's weight was 6lbs at 35 weeks. Is this a normal weight? What I read says 5lbs is normal for 35 weeks.
I am very much worried.Need some reassurance.

I would trust your DR. My DS was born at 36 weeks and he was 6lb 9oz. Babies can be anywhere between 5 and 6lbs during the 35th week. Remember, every baby develops/gains weight at their own rate and what you read are just estimates. If you are concerned I would ask for another US before 3 weeks. Good luck!

I dont have any experience with this but sounds like maybe he is just measuring large? Had he measured ahead during all his other scans or on target? I bet he just had a growth spurt or he is just going to be a big boy! Hope all goes well at your next u/s, I am sure it will all look great! Oh and my friend had a neice who's head was HUGE!! I mean really big and too big even for her body and the doctor was never concerned, she just had a big head...so try not to worry too much, especially if the doctor wasnt concerned.

I wouldn't worry about it - their estimates can be off. I had my daughter at 35 weeks and she weighed 5#6oz. Right before I delivered her they did an u/s to make sure she wasn't breech and they estimated her weight to be only 4# even.

i know its easier said than done but at my last perinatologist appt. 3 weeks ago, my dr did say to me that as they get bigger, the machine will be off and its just an "estimate".. i would not worry, babies all grow differently and i truly believe your little one is fine!! hang in there.

I was told that the measurements can be off by a week too (one way or another). It could have just been they way he/she was laying?

If the doctor isn't worried, I wouldn't be (too much) either.

Maybe you're just growing a genius in there?

I would not worry about it either. I had my son at 36 weeks 2 days and he was 5 lbs 3 oz, they were telling me he was 4 lbs 13 oz. He is home now and one month later he hit 7 lbs today! They grow like we all do at their own rate! The best of luck! You sound like you are going to have a healty baby!

Don't worry

I wouldn't worry if your OB isn't worried. When I had an U/S at 24 weeks I was measuring about 27 weeks. Every U/S I had from that point on consistently showed my baby as measuring about 2 1/2 weeks larger than his gestational age. After by gestational diabetes test came back normal, and my level 2 U/S was perfect, my OB just said my baby was going to be big; and he was...9 lbs 14 oz & 22 inches long. Looks like you've got a large one! Good Luck!
